While there are several difficult Nemesis sets, I think Dark Phoenix is unique in that she directly influences the way you play Phoenix. The others either come out or not and only affects the game when they do. I had the opposite experience as you, where I debated long and hard about whether I wanted to use the last power counter on Restrained, and I decided not to. The very next encounter card was her Obligation. I must admit that made me way more hesitant to Unleash in my succeeding games than it should have.
That's true. I had games where I got the obligation immediately after going Unleashed and it just ended the next turn. Now I only feel safe if that obligation is in the discard pile
Oh you’re 100% correct. I’ve just made the conscious decision to play her with reckless abandon and let the chips fall where they may lol. I don’t necessarily get to Unleashed as fast as I can, if I still feel like I need the 3 THW, but her cards are just so much more fun so I want to experience them in their unleashed form. I have no doubt it’s going to cost me games from time to time but I’m also the type of player that doesn’t mind losing as long as the game was fun 😆

And as for Ghost Spider, I once got George stolen with three events tucked away. While it sucked, Gwen is so strong that it didn't really slow her down that much. That obligation is definitely a shrug for me, and her fun factor far, far outweighs the perceived difficulty of the card. And if George isn't in play when stolen, you get him in hand once you clear the obligation, so it actually helps you tutor the card. Compared to Riri, that Obligation hurts whether you have progress counters or not.

For me when I ran Gwen through Sinister Motives, I often found myself frustrated by her economy and felt like I couldn’t do very much. Only with George did she seem to work and he got stolen in 3 out of the 5 games 🤣. So my early impressions were rough. I’ve since played her more and have had fun so my opinion has grown of her, but I’m still salty about George getting worried so often. He needs to chill out and trust his daughter more 😅
One thing I like to do is sometimes shuffle the nemesis decks into the encounter deck from the beginning while setting the modular decks aside for SOTP. This helps me play against the Nemesis decks more I also like how Kitty’s Obligation is unique. My first game with her and Colossus and pull SOTP with her pretty quick surged into Obligation and got the attachment to Kitty too. Emma’s power, plus the attachment causes problems with Kitty’s obligation. My last turn also pulled out Juggernaut.
That’s a really good idea! There’s probably some nemesis sets I’ve barely (or maybe never) played against so that’s a good way to guarantee you’ll see it 👍
Thanks for the fun content! I absolutely agree regarding the 4-hand-size heroes and Valkarie having nemesis sets that are way too good at beating them solo. I play Hulk solo the most out of any hero (I'm a fool for standard) and rush is the only answer to shadows when it pops off.

@Get Up and Game! I'm a simple Hulk player: mostly rush red. I play on standard so it's possible to smash most scenarios. I don't do Play D Game type shenanigans and my decks ate fairly simple. I'm drifting toward Wolverine because he fits the playstyle I wanted Hulk to be.

To be noted: for Wolverines "Tentacle strike", if you are stunned that 4 damage is happening even in AE for those who went home for safety due low health or dealing with 'death factor' before 'next turn recover'. (or Deadpool). Also Omega-Red will wipe out some would-be chump blockers (possibly making new candidates) and ping any toughs.

As for "Consume the World", there are a few effects that add threat to side schemes in addition to her scheming. EG: Masterplan Kinda sucks in MPer if CtW comes out, then something made her activate vs AE, then Masterplan then...pop! All in 1 villain phase :( Ah, destiny...

I’ve gotten into the game recently and have been playing through all the preconstructed decks. I never look at the nemesis cards before the game, because for now I like to be surprised by them. When Dark Phoenix came out I read the card and just laughed. I was already on the back foot in the game (I play 2 handed solo), and her coming out was just curtains.
nice video! what do u think of making a variant were u can add other nemesis to the encounter deck.. from other heroes.. maybe add the responsability card from that hero to be the trigger.. and maybe even bring out also the hero as an ally!

If you draw a different hero’s obligation you could bring in that hero and also their nemesis set. Then you’d have the other hero as an ally until maybe the nemesis is defeated or something like that. It would be like bumping into them fighting somewhere else lol. Love it!
@@GetUpandGame exactly! cause theres only one card to bring out the nemesis right? something from the past (i have the spanish versión so its diferent names but u know the one) but u could easily put the responsability cards (the yellow backed ones) from each hero into the encounter deck and if drawn use it to pull that nemesis like killmonger if u pull blakpanthers card and also black panther as an ally.. maybe not with full health maybe 6 health! he can help u fight killmonger and then get discarted.. i think of it as a way of using those heroes i never use.. i have the base only so far and use only spiderman.. i also have iron man prepared.. but that way i could st least use the other ones as allys/nemesis inside the encounter! maybe one extra per encounter offcourde not all of them 🤣🤣 i already ordered thors deck and green goblins and captain america and the red skull expansion and thats it for now!! glad u liked the idea! and im.following your videos on how to build decks!! great work!

The nemesis sets are just soooo full of flavor and theme, and that goes so unnoticed most of the time (at least for me). That’s so awesome about that Storm comic! Great video once again! I was wondering if you could help me with a query i have regarding the Sinister Six scenario. When i have more than one villain in play, if i play a card that says ie “Deal 5 damage to the villain” can i choose which one or is it the active villain always?
Thank you so much! When you play a card that targets the villain you can choose any of the villains. However if you have an effect like overkill, the over kill damage that spills over will always hit the active villain. Hope that helps! 😊
@@carlosfreitas6790 it's fine, it is kinda confusing the first couple times since the rules for these multiple-villain scenarios are either clear mostly about their unique mechanics or stacked on the campaign rulebooks, which is harder for you to get a clear picture of what is or should be properly happening. Great video! The enchantress nemesis is so bad that it has put me off playing Valkyrie. I hate including it in the Loki scenario and usually use a different modular set. Maybe we need modular nemesis sets! I might house rule in Drax's nemesis set for Valkyrie if I ever get around to playing her.
You said it, she’s just terrible anywhere you find her lol. I love the idea of modular nemesis sets! Yotat would be a much worthier opponent for Valk Maybe Shadows should just be a random pull. Could make for some crazy interactions. Pardon me, I need to go find Mockingbird in my box because Crossfire just came out 😆
Ha I’ve never done that as I feel like I’ve been seeing Shadows plenty enough for me lately 😅 but there are certainly ways to do it. Standard 2 has another copy of Shadows, and Expert 2 has Seek and Destroy which grabs your nemesis. The Whispers of Paranoia Modular encounter set will bring your nemesis stuff into the game so if you’re wanting to see it there are options!

Haha sure! You know, I was thinking about you the other day. I always say Shadows isn’t that bad, and you always say it is, and then I remembered that you play a lot of Spider-Man, and his Shadows is TERRIBLE, so no wonder you hate it so much 😆
@@GetUpandGame 3 live streams in a row with shadows... its 8th card from the bottom of the deck but for some reason I draw the card to find a card and shuffle the deck which causes shadows to end up 3rd from the top after the shuffle... the game hates me... that is my new statement..
I THINK Hawkeye had the ‘1 energy give an ally tough’ card in his starter deck, so his nemesis has pericing to keep you from blocking with an ally without loosing them

Hello! Yep! Since you do everything one sentence at a time you’ll completely resolve everything with Crossfire coming in before the side scheme comes out. That’s a good play!

Sorry that your experience is THAT bad with Worried father. I have a lot I could say about it, but for the sake of brevity I think you are being way too harsh on it. The fact that you but it in scoop is crazy to me. You can get so much work down with her Web Bracelets that if you are really that worried about him leaving, just focus on those. If I get him early, great. I'll focus on using the cards I put under him liberally then so I get value out of him. And when the obligation does show up, ok, then just go get him and your good for the rest of the game. It's fine to feel a different way about it, I just think it's a bit harsh.
That’s completely fair. Honestly when I was listening back to this in editing I kinda thought about redoing it because I came across, like you correctly say, really harsh. In the end I decided to keep it just because that really was my experience with her. I didn’t play her right away when SM came out because I was more stoked for Miles. So by the time I got to her the hype for Ghost Spider was pretty off the charts. Then when I took her through SM I just didn’t have the experience everyone was raving about. I found her hand was often clogged with too many effects meant to be played in the villain phase (didn’t help I was playing protection on top of both of her pirouettes and web bindings). So I could see George was meant to help with that and I JUST KEPT losing him lol So it was partially a function of being overhyped, and partially my very unlucky experiences the first few times I played her that really gave me a somewhat negative feeling towards her. Now, I’ve given her a couple more chances since because I know people really love her, and I want to love her too. I’m a fan of the character and what she’s doing is fantastic. I actually listed her as having one of the top 5 most fun gimmicks in the game in my 50th video celebration. And I do like her now more then I did. But for whatever reason when talking about Worried Father here it just brought back all the frustration and negativity I felt back when so, that’s why it came out like that 😅 But I think you’re assessment is 100% correct, and I thank you for sharing it!

Yes, whenever you can deal damage to a villain, if there are more than one, you can choose.

Standard 2 has another copy of Shadows, and Expert 2 has Seek and Destroy which grabs your nemesis. The Whispers of Paranoia Modular encounter set will bring your nemesis stuff into the game so if you’re wanting to see it there are options!
@johnsenior4821 Have you ever tried anything like that? Are you someone who gets shadows a lot or hardly ever? I used to feel like I never saw it but I sure have been lately lol

Haha sure! You know, I was thinking about you the other day. I always say Shadows isn’t that bad, and you always say it is, and then I remembered that you play a lot of Spider-Man, and his Shadows is TERRIBLE, so no wonder you hate it so much 😆
@@GetUpandGame 3 live streams in a row with shadows... its 8th card from the bottom of the deck but for some reason I draw the card to find a card and shuffle the deck which causes shadows to end up 3rd from the top after the shuffle... the game hates me... that is my new statement..
I rarely ever see shadows so this was a interesting and fun video, now I hope I dont get bad luck from watching this😅

I THINK Hawkeye had the ‘1 energy give an ally tough’ card in his starter deck, so his nemesis has pericing to keep you from blocking with an ally without loosing them

No exhaustion necessary, she simply deals damage to Nebula equal to her attack. Unfortunate but hilarious 😅

You know, I really really hope we get to a point where they take a second look at some of the bigger heroes, and it would be amazing if they did that with Cap and Tony!
And yeah I’d happily trade a swinging web kick and a webbed up for a nice 2 cost 4-5 damage attack lol

Hello! Yep! Since you do everything one sentence at a time you’ll completely resolve everything with Crossfire coming in before the side scheme comes out. That’s a good play!

I have lost a few games because Avalanche came out on a last turn and threw 2 more threat on there to top off the main scheme. He's a total buzzkill.

Nemesis are too swingy for me, so I usually don’t play with them. I like a more consistent experience.

@@GetUpandGame yep, I just remove that card from my deck each game. If I really want to play a particular nemesis, I’ll just use them as a modular set.

Sorry that your experience is THAT bad with Worried father. I have a lot I could say about it, but for the sake of brevity I think you are being way too harsh on it. The fact that you but it in scoop is crazy to me. You can get so much work down with her Web Bracelets that if you are really that worried about him leaving, just focus on those. If I get him early, great. I'll focus on using the cards I put under him liberally then so I get value out of him. And when the obligation does show up, ok, then just go get him and your good for the rest of the game. It's fine to feel a different way about it, I just think it's a bit harsh.
That’s completely fair. Honestly when I was listening back to this in editing I kinda thought about redoing it because I came across, like you correctly say, really harsh. In the end I decided to keep it just because that really was my experience with her.
I didn’t play her right away when SM came out because I was more stoked for Miles. So by the time I got to her the hype for Ghost Spider was pretty off the charts. Then when I took her through SM I just didn’t have the experience everyone was raving about. I found her hand was often clogged with too many effects meant to be played in the villain phase (didn’t help I was playing protection on top of both of her pirouettes and web bindings). So I could see George was meant to help with that and I JUST KEPT losing him lol
So it was partially a function of being overhyped, and partially my very unlucky experiences the first few times I played her that really gave me a somewhat negative feeling towards her. Now, I’ve given her a couple more chances since because I know people really love her, and I want to love her too. I’m a fan of the character and what she’s doing is fantastic. I actually listed her as having one of the top 5 most fun gimmicks in the game in my 50th video celebration. And I do like her now more then I did. But for whatever reason when talking about Worried Father here it just brought back all the frustration and negativity I felt back when so, that’s why it came out like that 😅
But I think you’re assessment is 100% correct, and I thank you for sharing it!
