  • In this video, our volunteer Fabio shows you how to tie the Enrico Puglisi "Spawning Shrimp". This fly is designed to target saltwater species, like bonefish and permit. Just cast in front of tailing/cruising fish, let it sink to the bottom, and strip it away from the fish.
Always match fly weight to the depth that you are fishing as you want the fly to get to the bottom as quickly as possible with the least water disturbance.
This fly can also be used for carp. In that case, you can use a freshwater hook.
    Materials list:
Thread: 70 or 140 UTC pink or orange
Hook: Size 2 down to 8 saltwater hooks. Fabio used a Daiichi 2546 size 4 in the video.
Eyes: Silver or gold brass eyes size small. Tie some with medium and small bead chains and extra small lead brass eyes
Egg spawn sack: Micro glo bug cerise, orange, red or similar color
Eyes: Mono black (I used 11/0 czech beads)
Wing: Artic fox tail tan or extra select tan craft fur or other colors to match bottom of the sea floor
Antennas/accents: Krystal flash pearl and black and orange/pink rubber legs
Body: Ice UV pearl and EP brush Woolly critter brush size 0.5”, 0.75” or 1”, sand or tan color.
