They did a great job animating the Phantom's striped shorts. I gather that was a problem for TV animators back in the day of DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH and PHANTOM 2040 cartoons, and why they changed his costume to all-purple without shorts in those shows. I want to see the Phantom exactly as he appears in the comics -- with his gunbelt with two .45 automatic pistols (deleted by TV censors), and his horse Hero and wolf Devil... none of these sci-fi vehicles and Skull-copters or what have you. I guess I could excuse it at the time because it was the only Phantom we were going to get. Even Billy Zane didn't wear the striped shorts in the movie (which I otherwise loved). But high praise to Art of Play Games for giving Phantom Phans worldwide what we REALLY want to see -- the REAL 100% authentic 21st Phantom, Lee Falk's classic hero. Let's hope it's a smash hit and there are sequels!!

Regarding the animation of the Phantom's striped shorts - from what we understand, you are right, they were removed due to the lack of technology to be able to do that.

Phantom is one of my all time favourite heroes.. I just luv the character.. used to read the comics in my school days in 80-90s..

As a huge fan of this I really hope this does well enough for a sequel, maybe even for a Defenders of the Earth game in a similar style. The phantom and Flash fighting Ming the merciless, what more could one want?

Nice, odd that in the time when superheros are all the rage, a more grounded hero like Phantom hasnt had a good treatment yet. Will check this out when its released.

Cool concept, love that the Phantom is being shown some love. However, the animation is choppy as hell and I predict it's going to be a major complaint against the game! Should have gone for a higher frame rate!

@@ThePokerfella Thats the stuff. I knew they must have had a youtube trailer somewhere. I kept only finding one from a channel called "the phantom" but that upload has its quality capped at 360p, so no way it was the official one.

@@Chroniclechamber I guess not, feels a bit weird, to buy a game that would have such a rarity, that only nostalgia for the 90s or as a total fan for the Phantom, would make me happy. I would probably choose games with more than 2 buttons to press or less. Well I loved the Phantom, Defenders of the Earth, cheerio! … what are you thinking? I mean for example, combine Nomansky with Gotham Knights with a bit of Throne and Liberty. That would be brilliant.
I just watched this again and there's a weird moment (0:36) where the Phantom just beats on an empty car, punching and kicking the doors. First of all, that's so goofy... why would the Phantom ever do that? And HOW can he do that? He doesn't have super-strength. You've never seen BATMAN kick the heck out of a car, have you? And how would that benefit the player, in game terms? There's not even anyone IN the car, no crooks or anything. Weird, just weird. Not that it spoils the game, which is otherwise as impressive as all get-out.
You know this is a video game, right? In many, many beat-em-up style games you can destroy various items within the world to reveal stuff like health items, extra lives and so on. This is far from the first game to do this. If this bothers you, I have you never play Street Fighter II.
