- At the end of our dive on the dive site known as "The Trench" off of West Palm Beach, Florida we had the encounter of a lifetime! My wife, Brittany, our niece Addie, and our Dive Guide Craig Buss from Pura Vida Divers were the last 4 divers in the water ascending from approximately 60'. This whale shark graced us with its presence for approximately 1 minute, in approximately 30 feet of water, surrounded by nearly 100 remora's and 20+ cobia's.
As someone who works in La Paz, Mexico as a whale shark tour guide this is very excellent footage. Nice work.
I appreciate that sir!
Incredible footage! Must've been amazing to witness in person
it was unreal my friend.
One never knows what the underwater world will surprise us with... What a beautiful gift!!! Thanks for sharing!
Wow. That blows my whale shark video away. Next time I'll be better prepared. Best whale shark video I've seen. Thanks so much for sharing.
This is the most beautiful footage of sea life I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing!
Brandon Heuser thank you sir!
Great footage and exceptional videography. Last time I got to see one of these leviathans was in 2003. (Galapagos) Thanks!
So beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I would have been scared to be diving and see that whale shark.
What!? Off the Trench!? I've been planning a trip to the South Pacific *to* hopefully see a Whale Shark. I'd never thought that it was possible just north of my inlet. Congratulations on your good fortune!
In the right place at the right time!!! Proud of you all. Great video!
Thats for sure Grandi! It was an amazing experience!
This is amazing footage. Thanks for sharing this!
This is by far my favorite animal... I'm beyond jealous. Do you have any photographs I could use as computer wallpaper? By all means water mark or put your signature on it. This is amazing.
unbelievable!! I'm completely jealous, that's top 5 on my bucket list, I've not seen anything special when I dive Jupiter, I usually stay around Boynton to boca, but a whale shark this week and a great white a few months ago... I might have to find my new favorite charter boat lol
great shot and a spectacular opportunity!
Everyone out there, please inform. I am somewhat ignorant regarding sealife, I admit. However, I am VASTLY curious as to the other smaller fish. Why do they hang on like that, and HOW do they hang on? Thank you so very much for photographing this most beautiful sight, and sharing it with the whole world. U R Awesome! Sincerely, Joyce Brown, Southern California
They have a suction section on top of their head and attach themselves to large marine animals to clean them. That's the long skinny fish you see called a remora. The larger fish that have a "shark look" to them are cobia.
Sometimes Remoras (sucker fish) can be found inside of the Whale Shark's mouth. The WS acts as host while the Remora takes care of the parasites on the WS.
Thank you so much!
Thanks from the bottom of my mouth. HAHA.
I have always sympathized with large animals of the sea about the barnicles all over them. Would these sucker fish be able to help them with those?
Incredibly awesome! I would love to come across one like this.
Gentle Giant
I gotta check out this trench. This video has the wow factor plus!!!!!
Wow. that was amazing!. what a lifetime experience
Wow, absolutely amazing!
Congratulations, Mr. Keith Brock!!
Can we share (with credits of course) your footage on our Facebook canal?

Why all these different species of fish tagging along for the ride?
Put your headphones on. Put this to full screen and take it in.
@kbscubadiver you gotta wonder what the whale shark is thinking. "Damn all these moochers near me."
Hi there, Amazing footage! I work for Express Newspapers in the UK, could we use this video on the Daily Star website? With credit to you. Thanks, Eve
Hi Eve! I would love that! Thank you!!
Will you email me the link when you use it? Keith@kbbts.com
I was out for my certification dive on that exact day in west palm and missed it. I was at breakers reef and I'm curious how far that is from this.
Maybe 500-600 yards from the breakers.
About how far off shore was it
Not even a mile. The dive site is only 60 feet deep.
kbscubadiver wow that must've been a crazy experience. All I saw was a turtle and a bunch of lobster. Crazy how close it was.
This particular shark is known as jinbēzame ジンベエザメ in the Japanese language (nihongo にほんご).
WHAT CHARTER WERE YOU WITH?
how awesome!
What kind of video camera did you use? Looks really nice for underwater video.
GoPro Hero 5
Amazing!
That's a living submarine.
cool vid,,,,however, to many remoras on whale shark,,,,that can't b normal,,,
What is the other shark looking fish? Time 0:56 there is a close up of one at the bottom of the frame.
Hey Jay! It's a cobia, commonly found with bull sharks. They are a scavenger fish.
Be careful if you see a bull shark. They are smart, menacing and can swim in fresh water too.
Amazing animal!
omg incredible!
So cool!!!
thats wonderful
awesome ... the open ocean is the ONLY place they should be. And look at all the lampreys and other fish surrounding it.
couldn't agree more.
my husband and I were certified to 60 feet back in 1988. Have yet to do an open water dive. Would so love to do this and be able to see one of these magnificent creatures. (unfortunately, my husband passed away before we could do an OWD together. One of these days)
I feel itchy
NOICE!!!!!!!!
