In 2019, Brian Flores and Miami’s defense were dead last in the NFL by DVOA. In 2020, the Dolphins jumped to 11th overall and 6th in pass DVOA. They went from giving up 35 points per game to just 21. All this improvement was spurred by the fronts and pressure packages from Brian Flores and great secondary play from Xavien Howard and new addition Byron Jones. Miami had one of the highest blitz and pressure rates in the NFL with almost 10% of their blitzes coming from a Cover 0 look with no deep help. They also brought five or more rushers on over 1/3 of their defensive snaps. They weren’t without flaws - especially in the run game, but the defense came up big without the big names to back it up.

Here after the Vikings hire 💜💛
Had a ton of fun watching this Miami defense. Big things coming for the Dolphins in 2021.
Loved the vid man! I like how you break down things! Fun to watch!
I appreciate that!
@@WeeklySpiral np!
The average runstopping game and issue sealing the edges is exactly why we they traded for Benadrick McKinney and drafted Jaelan Phillips; to help solve those issues. Flores saw the holes in his defence and went out to solves them asap. The LB core last year as pretty middle of the road but picking up better depth pieces in Duke Riley and Brennan Scarlett will help with that. Both can play the run better than what was there last year and are also pretty solid in coverage too
Really excited for Phillips. Frees up a lot of things on defense if he plays up to his potential and gives the Dolphins someone that can win a one-on-one
Who else is watching this after the Steeler hire? Couldn't be more excited
great video
Great analysis
Stressing how they did this without a premier edge rusher...like prospect Jaelan Phillips...is making me a little uneasy 😬
If Phillips pans out, they're going to be tough. Having a guy that can win a one-on-one will do wonders for that front and allow Flores to back off from bringing the all-out blitz looks while still getting home.
The Bills should be scared
@@knowa745 "scared?" Na. Welcoming and embracing the competition? Absolutely.
Nice video broke it down real good
Vikings fan here. Love the Flores hire. I would rather get burned deep once in awhile than burned short-and-medium on every play under Ed Donatell. I don't mind losing with an aggressive defensive gameplan if it's at least fun to watch.
Good luck. Gonna need the CBs for it
@@waylenwaddlefinsup9876 .........That's literally any defense in the NFL.
Best breakdown ever.
Always great content. Keep it up
Glad you enjoyed it man. I appreciate the support
U def have to have elite cover corners to run anything similar to this. And the Fins have exactly that with Howard and Jones...
100%. Biggest reason that Xavien has some leverage with his holdout deal. If Flores wants to continue to bring heat, they need those guys on the back end.
Great video man very informative
I appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it
I like the high risk high reward technique. I wonder if they will be able to maintain it next year with everyone being aware of it. And the AFC East is getting tough!
Definitely a lot of competition in the division. If they keep playing like they did on defense, they've got some nice weapons on offense now as well with Waddle, Gesicki, and Parker. Exciting time to be a Dolphins fan
2 things to think about, Will Xavier Howard stay? And What impact will rookie Jaelan Phillips do? Miami fans are hyped 2021
Ik this is about the fins but that run concept at 6:00 by Kyle Shanahan, great play design.
So I believe that with the additions made to the defense (specifically Jevon Hollan > Bobby McCain) that this defense will be even harder to pass against. Holland is a better run defender, tackler, & cover man than McCain was. If this team can play with a lead, watch out!
Definitely not a team you want to play against from behind. If Phillips brings some juice in the pass rush, it’ll be a nightmare for teams. Really need Xavien Howard on the back end though. So as long as that gets ironed out, there’s huge potential there.
Dope video can u do New York jets defense line
Hey man where do you get the clips you use for the intros of your videos? Not the All-22 clips but the ones that look like they’re from NFL Films?
I usually search the team RUclips pages and pull from there. Most teams have Mic'd up or game recap videos that have the more cinematic clips.
Superbowl 58 Champion! Minnesota Vikings!
So you are saying the vikings have hope if we can sign flores?
High Risk. Absolutely. Allen smoked the Dolphins in both games. He only struggled for just over a quarter of the second game.
Part of the danger for sure. Allen tore apart 0 looks all last year. Surprised the Dolphins didn’t change things up a little more against him.
If you want to take a look at how they did it, I made a video after their Week 17 game.

@@WeeklySpiral saw that yeah how I found the channel
Yeah, but Tua was 1 a rookie and haven't grasp NFL speed yet and 2. He had Fitzpatrick play book from chain gailey.. A set up
How Miami selected QB Tua over QB Justin Herbert in the 2019, Tua is now on I.R., in Week 3. Herbert is starting against Patrick Mahomes in KC on Sunday. Discuss.
SUPERBOWL
Another thing made defense better, the QB didn't turn the ball over, enter tua. Check the efficiency of the defense when tua took over.
Exactly why I think we’ll be better. In the beginning of the season, fitz was turning the ball over left and right which is a big reason why we lost several games. Tua didn’t turn the ball over like fitz which will be huge for us
You See. Flores should stick with what he is good at... really good at
Pressure cooking defense damage
He changed the defense direction.
He needs to bring it back and we can win 8 straight easily even with Tua. Geseiki, Collins, gaskin and waddle is all u need to pile 42 points a game.. add Isaiah Ford and additional scorer.
Sanders needs to practice 50 yard Field goals, every point counts.. 3 gamed we loss by 3 or less
2:02
Aaand he’s gone. Good job Miami
Skol#
Miami needs to keep getting turnovers bcause they have the #34 ranked QB!! DW4 DW4
@John 316 I hope you’re not being serious
3 months later we know Flores is trash
Come again?
