No, they are slaves to their desires. Rollo was a perfect example of a man who was a slave to his desires, and it stripped him of his dignity. Once he married Gisla and controlled himself, he gained dignity, respect, and fame.

-you can work hard your entire life on building the man (or woman, though that's more rare) whose life you want to live:
a man capable of attracting many women and even more rarely a man whom several women would consent to share rather than insisting on temporary monogamy(unless you manage to lock down a virgin, one could hope, but hope is not a strategy)
a highly attractive man, as defined by the women (necessarily) could choose to indulge (or not) without this choice in and of itself having anything to say on his evaluation by society
a slave couldn't leave, even by choice, or he wouldn't be a slave
a man with options (whether he exercises them or not) WILL LOSE SAID OPTIONS should he fumble the ball(gain weight, lose his fortune, dress strangely, etc.)

@@TheRealRealMClovin Rollo was being a drunkin butthole and missed an important meeting between the King and Ragnar. Siggy is the wife of the previous Earl that Ragnar overthrew. She chided him for “wanting” to be great but not actually having any discipline or forethought
I always thought Siggy was beautiful
She used to be on Nip/Tuck. Not a super likeable character, but she was there, 20 years ago.
I love Rollo and he's one of my fav, but you just cut the part in which Siggy humiliates him asking why isn't he reunited with Horik and Ragnar? Bc Rollo was drunk af and wasn't invited lol...

It's always a bigger betrayal when a woman cheats because the reproductive part of a woman's duty towards her man is far greater than the other way around.
