I talk a little about this in the Q&A video coming at midnight tonight - but this video should explain it in more detail: ruclips.net/video/JcqVhnNh3Qk/видео.html
You should try and pick up an Effectrode Blue Bottle at some stage. The demos out there of it are not so great in terms of sound quality, also a lot of the playing on them is lead stuff, which doesn’t necessarily tell you much about how a pedal sounds.
Hi Joe. Great review and a truly amazing pedal. Question is though…how does it feel ‘under the fingers’? I’ve heard this phrase bandied about loads of times before, but never really got it. What’s your own take on this ‘under the fingers malarkey? PS…at 1.33 your quote “I’m not exactly sure what this knob is doing” I’ve heard many times before, but I try not to take it too personally these days! 😂 Cheers man!
@This Guy what a truly wonderful explanation! That was like reading a musical version of a Lloyd Grossman recipe…fabulous. I once read that a person’s perfect cheese is the one that leaves the taste buds in a state of utter confusion as to whether it is sweet or savoury? The mind cannot comprehend this imbalance and lean one way or the other, and this creates a feeling of ‘micro popping’ sensations on the tongue. When this happens, you know you’re in that euphoric cheese zone! In relation to the guitar, I get it now…those rare moments where the guitar almost plays itself. Mind, body, soul, guitar, amp and pedals all working together in perfect harmony. It’s like something spiritual takes over and plays it for you. All you’re doing is effortlessly going through the motions and relishing the moment. Doesn’t happen very often, but when it does!!
I think @This Guy said it well! :P There is definitely 'a feel' that comes with tube pedals that SS pedals find it hard to replicate...the best ones have it, and this one definitely does. It's a _slight_ saggy compression when you dig in - it's not super obvious (some pedals claim to give you this but go _way_ too far and it sounds like it's broken!) but they're just a little more....spongy? That won't be for everybody though - a lot of people prefer SS pedals for the firmer response. :-)
Could you explain something ? in all tube preamp pedals, the tubes don't glow. but on my engl e530, they absolutely do. does this mean the tubes in the pedals aren't really used/pushed ?
In pedals such as this, they're running at the same voltage as they are in amplifiers - mine glow, though maybe because they're not enclosed in a dark cabinet they appear to glow less?
I love your channel Joe, but I really should stop watching these videos - every time I do I end up spending money! (I bought the Hylight VR501 - awesome amp. Couldn't be happier.)
@@JoePerkinsMusic I'm also holding you responsible for the TubeSteader Egg Nog and the Sunkeeper, and also the Fredric effects Accomplished Badger which are all now permanent features in my setup 😁! Seriously, your channel is awesome, you do the best reviews and demos on the Internet, and you always have the coolest products. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
@@petebrown6204 Aha thanks Pete - though my apologies go to your wallet! :P Those are all killer pedals - very happy to hear you've been enjoying them as much as I have!
I really want to like this pedal, but smacking the low strings on a tele is 100% the wrong way to see if this thing has any focus or definition. Jangly arpeggiated chords, same thing. You started to get in the ballpark about 8:15 but I want to hear if this thing sings, or has any sustain to it. Nothing personal, just didn't hear anything I was looking for.
The cool name deserves extra points
Absolutely!
Awesome tone
Joe,
Your channel rocks.
I am new to your work.
Excellent.
Thank you for sharing.
Peace be with you always.
Steve
Thanks Steve - good to have you here :-)
Dayyaum that sounds sweet!!
Awesome riff that start at 4:35!!! Is that an original song?
Something I've been working on for years but have never been able to make work in a track!
@@JoePerkinsMusic I dig it!!!
What is the Vajra amp? Can't seem to find any info on it from google?

Pls vs “effectrode tube drive” and “bk tube driver” if you can!!!
I don't have the BK anymore, unfortunately!

@@colmkelly5524 I'd love to try one - think it's based on a Pultec EQ-type circuit, which sounds pretty cool as a premise!!
