Some Common terms mostly used in Genetics / Inheritance

Hi, Thanks for watching my video about some common terms used in genetics or inheritance.
In this video I'll walk you through
- Genetics: Study of heredity and variation
- Inheritance: Transfer of characters from parents to offspring
- Trait: A distinguishing quality or characteristic, developed by a factor (gene).
- Gene: A gene is a sequence of nucleotides in DNA, which is responsible for a particular character
- Allele: An allele is one of two or more versions of a gene. An individual inherits two alleles for each gene, one from each parent. OR Alternate form of gene is called Allele
- Locus: Position of a gene on a chromosome
- Homozygous: Homozygous is a genetic condition where an individual inherits the same alleles for a particular gene from both parents
- Heterozygous: Having two different alleles of a particular gene If the alleles of a gene are different, one allele will be expressed; it is the dominant gene. The effect of the other allele, called recessive, is masked.
- Phenotype: The term "phenotype" refers to the observable physical properties of an organism.
- Genotype: A genotype is an organism's set of heritable genes that can be passed down from parents to offspring. Genetic makeup of organism for a particular trait
