Well if you look at Regulation Article 286, than in point 2.3 they forbid Composite, "Unless explicitly authorised by the present regulations" - and if you read further down, in point 8.1.1 for "Clutch mechanism and disc(s)" they state, that the design and materials are "Free." So basically point 8.1.1 liberates their choice and they should've been allowed to use carbon for their clutch, since in this point it was "explicitly" authorised.
This is very sad that hour-long TV coverage Dakar Rally on Eurosport (Poland) has stopped being broadcast on Stage 6 😡 No coverage from Stage 6B, then no a single report from Rest Day and again - no coverage from Stage 7. What kind of broadcast agreement is that?? It's like giving to the football fans coverage only from first half of the the football match 🙄 I'm sure the sponsors are also very disappointed...
Weren't the Goczal cars checked during the pre-rally Scrutineering session? Aren't they checked at each stage as well? Why this middle-of-the-rally policing? In their press release, EnergyLandia (Goczal's team) revealed that they had received confirmation from Dakar's technical team that carbon clutches were allowed. Now, even if the team's appeal is heard there won't be any change to the result. What a shame? There's just no transparency in ASO's dealings. They have a history of altering results. We've seen that with Robby Gordon whenever he was in the contention for the overall win. Honda and their then rider Joan Barreda-Bort have also been on the receiving end. Formula 1 and Moto GP are way more transparent than Dakar. A humble petition to the ASO - please don't turn off genuine fans like us. All our enjoyment of boy wonder Eric Goczal's dominant performance thus far, particularly through the Empty Quarter, has been wasted. I think the ASO likes to clip someone's wings when they are dominating.
Because it is impossible to check every vehicle each day to start with, and yes they were, but clearly the clutches were swapped out AFTER first inspections making it even more suspicious. EnergyLandia is obviously going to say Dakar technical cleared it but so far no proof. If his dominant performance was because he could sustain a much faster pace without burning out the clutch, he has cheated simply.
It's called starting within the rules and cheating during a service not realizing that the numbers tell a story. Reminds me of Skoda last WRC build driven by a legendary team the car being grounded whilst in podium position to avoid the mandatory scrutiny. Fans missed the fake attempt at repairs when the driver did not complain about any issues. That car never returned to competition after showing top potential
Dont forget there are over 100 competitors, checking every vehicle every day is impossible, but eventualy when it happens, you better follow the rules.
The clutch disc part of the rulebook only says "free", but another chapter on allowed materials lists where they can use composite - the clutch isnt in that list. Sounds like a misinterpretation of the rule happened, the Goczal are claiming the rulebook was ambigious but the FIA seems to have none of it
@@PinkSmoothie now they never do. They used to show stage and overall classifications. Now they show overall and world championship. They should go back to the old system.

Yet again if we are geeky the normal clutch discs and brake pads are composite, made of: mineral fibers, chopped glass, cellulose, copper fibers, aramid fibers, steel fibers, ceramics, various carbon composites, and razin to hold them together. "Materials: Unless explicitly authorised by the present regulations, the use of the following materials is prohibited: - Titanium alloy - Magnesium alloy - Ceramics - Composite " I leave it to everyone's best judgment do condemn the Polish guys or FIA for the decision.

According to the Stewards Decision No. 7 per Document 2.9, issued last 2024 January 13 at 19:00, they were disqualified because their clutch was found not in compliance with Article 286-2.3 of Appendix J of the FIA 2024 ISC. I believe the team interpreted a separate Article 286-8.1.1 to mean that they could use carbon in their clutch since it stated that the design of the clutch was "free" from any restrictions, but FIA concluded that it was not sufficient to overrule the 'exhaustive' list of what components are only allowed to use carbon, which the clutch was not included.
The intro for this day's highlight will live in my head rent-free. Mason Klein opens the show just like when he opens the stage only to find out that Ashley House is back in the house. I wonder where he was going... bingo?
Can anyone explain to me the two different standing at the end of the bike segment. FIM world Rally Championship and the Overall bike classification? As in why are all the top guys not on that standings?
FIM Championship is more races than Dakar. It's like the season ranking. Not all competitors compete the full season and therefore don't appear in the championship. It's irrelevant for the Dakar though. You only care about the first standings. Hope that helps:)
I don't understand why we talk about Loeb as a win contender while he's not showing up in the top 10 overall ? I'm sure I'm missing something, could someone help me understand please ?
@ianwatson3315 it used to be a race of endurance stamina and raced with something that the everyman could go look at on a dealership floor. Maybe even be inspired to buy one. I just had an interesting read trying to verify the rules they based the disqualification on. I didn't find a detailed description what happened: had they opened the clutch after inspection (breaking the seal) or did the inspector miss the carbon clutch parts all together. The rules are pretty clear about prohibiting the use of composite materials outside the list of allowed parts. However there's a catch: if they submitted a "reference vehicle" at least 30 days prior to Dakar having a carbon clutch they actually might be allowed to have a carbon parts in it! Would be so interesting to have an article covering the details and the story of both sides.

I mean Hero doesn't really post anything on the Rally bike themselves, it doesnt seem like they intend to sell them, just use it for their racing team which is different from Kove. Cesare Zacchetti is riding Original by Motul class on a Kove right now. They are an up and coming Rally bike maker that is 'available' to consumers, I could have a Kove in my garage next week if I wanted, no other new 'Rally bike' falls in that category.
