      @51Dss 5 лет назад +7

@@autohmae I completely agree with you. For anyone who has listened to Pink Floyd recorded or who has been fortunate enough to experience Pink Floyd live there can be no denying the spiritual stirring it creates in the soul. I believe music at its finest, music as an art form is like a facet on a complex and finely cut diamond. A diamond with an infinite number of facets. Each facet represents a particular style, or genre or idea that is expressed in music. I would never make a value judgement comparing Steely Dan with Pink Floyd. I am saying that although quite different from each other they both cause that stirring in the soul. Just when a person thinks they've discovered "the one" something else comes along and shows them the light bent in a slightly different trajectory but still just as beautiful and awe inspiring.

Roger Waters, the absolute master of lyrics!
I remember making a similar thing happen with a punk g/f back in the '80s using 'Animals'. If you may recall, punks did not like Pink Floyd, they saw them as the establishment old guard, overcomplicated and out of touch. So I sat Emmy down, put a copy of Animals lyrics in her hand & put the tape on to play. Her reaction was similar to PinkMetalHeads as she realised this 'boring old guard' band was every bit as savage & violent as her punk heroes, the only real difference was subtlety in the presentation by adding a contrast of sublime music.

I'm 62 and when "RAP" first came about in the mid 80s, I was open minded and gave it a shot. AT FIRST, I "THOUGHT" it was kinda cool. But it got REDUNDANT, BORING, and it was ALWAYS..TALK!! And I also noted that MUSIC was being taken from bands and artists that ACTUALLY PLAY "MUSIC" and stuck in the middle of their "RAP", which tells me that they haven't the abilty to come up with their own ORIGINALITY!!

And to think the entire album is only about 42 minutes long (if I remember correctly). Nothing better than sitting in your most comfortable reclining chair, with the lights dimmed, eyes closed, headphones on and listening to the whole CD (vinyl is great too, but you'll have to flip it over halfway through, possibly spoiling the mood) as if it were one long track. Really just in a class by itself as far as I'm concerned.

I have since taken numerous people to see him and changed their lives as well. The music transcends space and time, and the lyrics are universal and way beyond what you normally get in Rock music.
Joe, if you can find it, there is an album called "Seen One Earth" by a guy from the band Camel, named Pete Bardens(he passed away a few years ago so you may have to RUclips it). Today's music has NO meaning, No soul, it's all hook if you took the computer out of today's recording's and studio musician's you will have nothing to listen to. That is a fact jack! I for one love to see the record companies make contract decision's about music not money, That goes for radio too. Greta Van Fleet is prime example of good of it can be done.

@Anthony Fremont of negativism So you like someone putting lyrics in front of sound? Too me it's nothing special. As for computer driven music every one has used in Rock as filler not like today's music. To me music should be played by instrument not as cheep and easy to push of a button. Hell I can do that. And as Greta Van Fleet they are a cheap knock off of Zeppelin but they do play instruments. The real problem is schools don't have good music programs AND haven't for decades. Since I was in school.

I looked at him and gave him kind of like a shrug and a head shake. Than he said "You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you." and it just touched something inside of me and the water works started, and now every time I hear this , I cry. Nah, put a decent studio headphone on (about $100 for a Beyer Dynamic DT770 or 880 - I have no financial gain, but love the DT990) so you hear every detail that was recorded, and: take your time. Really! When you think about listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album, think about an hour... no less.
And yeah: be prepared for a new sensation.

@@anotherkat4u The first album of Pink Floyd I bougt, was "Animals". The talented Richard Wright plays an awesome Fender Rhodes Piano there (Sheep) and the second album was "Wish you were here". It's kind a dark but brilliantly appealing by it's soundscapes and lyrics. Well, I could not point an album of Pink Floyd that I dislike, though! How wonderful is the part in Dark Side of the Moon called "The Great Gig in the Sky", with Clare Torry's voice... who was mostly improvising this! (ruclips.net/video/cVBCE3gaNxc/видео.html) ?
I have to point you to this video: ruclips.net/video/_1jL8A20H_k/видео.html where the same part is - beautifully! - sung by three women, which in turn shows the talent of miss Torry, who sung the whole part herself!
The Wall... it is a class apart. Considering the tension in the group when it was recorded and the professionality of the members, it was apparently hard work too. One thing no-one can take away from the world, is Pink Floyd's music. We're actually very lucky living in this era!

I was a stoner-kid in the 90's listening to Floyd. Most of my friends bumped Tupac or Biggie (but they didn't want to bump that on acid 😛□ they wanted "different.")
Them: "Why don't we like the things we normally like!? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I can't decide! I give up; YOU pick something! I'm freakin' out over here" 😱
Me: "just breathe, breathe in the air."🙂
Them: "Ok, why are you saying that?"🤷🏻‍♂️
      Me: "You'll see in a sec." 😏 🎚🔊🎶🎵🎶
(We listened to "Speak to me/Breathe/On the Run" & right after that I put on "ECHOES!!!")

Actually, you should have listen to Time and the next track Great Gig In the Sky together. That is the way it is intended since they melt into each other. Both musically and as a theme. Time is about life, basically. And the next song is about death in a way. Where it ends and starts at the same time.

At age 50 I've heard it all my whole life, but for young ppl a lot of them have probably heard just hip hop and stuff post yr 2000, and hearing Floyd, Zep, early VH and on and on for the first time must just be a trip. Between 1968 and 1980, the same years Zep was around, there's sooo much great music, and if you listen to any classic rock station about 90% of the songs came out within those 12 yrs.

Now 37 years later they are touring again. Well 2 of the original members at least. You know The Who has been around since 1964/65 and was originally considered a mod band.

Of all the guitars solo's I think David Gilmore topped everyone with this solo. It may not be the most complex or the fastest but its the emotion you feel with every note. Every note had purpose and hits perfectly. You can feel his heart in the sound
