Carmine is a true pioneer. Realistic Rock is one of the greatest series of instructional material in the history of drumming. Fact. Carmine and Vinnie are treasures...pure talent and rock royalty.
Vinny wanted to be heavier and louder than Carmine... well he did. In fact he became one of the heaviest and loudest drummers in the world. That's a dream come true right there.
For the handful of Carmine haters in the chat... Get over yourselves. I had the pleasure of meeting Carmine a few years back and he was the nicest rocker I ever met. And he played the hell out of his drums that night.
I agree 100% We had Carmine in for a drum clinic at my old work in a music store, and he was very gracious and friendly. Went out and had some dinner with him afterwards and it was a great hang. Very knowledgeable guy and has some fantastic stories. Great guy
I hosted Carmine for a drum clinic the day Frank Zappa died. We were all upbeat setting up for the clinic cutting up with Carmine and our receptionist came in the auditorium and said “phone call for Mr. Appice.” Carmine walked out and we noticed that he’d been gone for a long time. I went to see where he was and from the moment I saw him, i knew something bad happened. Needless to say, he was very upset but when it came showtime, he performed perfectly as if nothing had happened. We’ve hosted a lot of drummers but my customers said that as far as educational, they got more out of Carmine’s clinic than any of them and we’ve had some heavyweights. Vinnie Appice, Greg Bisonnette, Rod Morgenstein, Bobby Rock, Mike Portnoy, just to name a few.
Kenny- I can't even conceive of a, 'Carmine-hater'......hard for me to believe such people exist at all.. Carmine seems too nice & honest to prompt ANY haters, really.....
I’ve met both brothers at different times in my life and they’re the best. Very humble and willing to talk drums and life. Very cool people. And they are both great teachers of drums too! 🤘
Great that Carmine was 11 years older and wanted to help his little brother. With that age difference the older bro becomes more like a father figure and less like a rival.
Both phenomenal drummers. I lean toward Vinny because I imprinted on the early Dio stuff like a baby duck would to a feather duster. Saw Dio on the Sacred Heart tour when I was 14 and was quite blown away. Great timing and impeccable restraint.
WHAT a great story...love the brotherly admiration...I actually worked a gig for Vinny in 1991 and spent a lot of the day with him and the band he was in at the time....WWIII...he and Jimmy Bain were NOT with Dio for a short period...great guy he is...
That was my age. 8. Sent to lessons at 12 til 16 by jazz instructor. I was so pissed. I had a slight ego until those lessons. I lost it. Realized life is a lesson forever. Sadly as good as I became after 27 years I missed my shot with being jail for dui when my uncle called setting up rehearsal for new drummer of 3 doors down in Biloxi MS...Clyde had a studio. Was my Uncle. He passed in 07. I didn't find out until he passed that it was Brad looking for me. I had played many shows with early 3 doors down in 90 ish. To 95. Met him more personal at holly house and would eventually find out they got signed. Went through katrina storm and lost everything. To this day I started playing guitar. I had been a single parent from 06 til 2018. Proudly!
Awesome story ... I'm coordinating a symphony orchestra to do a big concert with Vinny Appice and other Rock Legends in Temecula, CA on June 18th, 2016 ... As a drummer myself I've been following Carmine for many years and studied out of his lesson book for drum set ... great stuff. I'm honored to be working with Vinny in June. I enjoyed listening to Carmine talk about Vinny's early drum days.
Alana Joos My wife played in Carmine's drum group called SLAM kinda of a rock version of STOMP, she did a bunch of shows with Carmine. She said he was fantastic to work with, and a great person.
I loved the DERRINGER BAND.Saw thevreunion show at BB KINGS Few years sgo...so good.Damn danny Johnson still looked the Same.Kenny aronson always loved his playing....BEYOND THE UNIVERSE .VINNIE KILLED IT...I Really liked his playin with Derringer Than Sabbath!
Derringer was better than DIO IMO. I saw them 3 times .Although also great , I didn't see DIO throwing guitars , or have 2 killer guitarists, and moving out bass player like Kenny, plus Vinny, not trying to start a war just my opinion
First two Derringer albums are Great! Pretty damn good drumming too for a 17 year old? I used to try to play those drum parts from those albums in my first local bands and ill tell ya...it aint so easy, especially trying to copy Beyond the Universe from the first Derringer album. Love that stuff!
There are a number of interviews with both brothers where they discuss why they pronounce "Appice" differently. They both say that the correct pronunciation is "APP-ah-see", but they both say that Carmine changed it in the mid 1970's when he was playing with Rod Stewart because Rod always mispronounced it as "ah-PEACE" when introducing him & it stuck. Levon Helm had the same problem, as his real name is Lavon, but The Band members had trouble with it & called him Levon instead.
So I finally heard how the supergroup of Danny Vinny Kenny and Rick got started. Thanks Big C. Two albums no one can match Derr and Sweet evil. Had to hear it from a caveman
They are both killer hard rock drummers! I was just listening to some live Ozzy with Carmine and man did they sound great, no offense to Tommy but Ozzy should have kept Carmine.
both brothers are just awesome rock drummers in my personal opinion, but Carmine had an advantage over Vinny, and it's that Carmine had already played psychedelic-progressive and hard rock n roll styles, his experience on these types of rock n roll sounds with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, and Bogart-Beck- Appice band gave him ahead distance in the rock scenario; but again, Vinny is a hell of a drummer himself .......... with Black Sabbat and Dio in his background, I believe his status of a heavy metal drummer can hardly be put to question.
nope, Vinny has a heavier sound to my ears so if you prefer heavy drummers you might prefer Vin, i think they are both great rock drummers but they are different.
chist? I guess you meant Christ, lmao, if you are going to correct someone at least have the common knowledge to spell correctly and use proper grammar.

That was really awesome interview Carmine about your brother! Thanks for sharing !
I’ve met both brothers at different times in my life and they’re the best. Very humble and willing to talk drums and life. Very cool people. And they are both great teachers of drums too! 🤘
David - I can believe that, as Carmine certainly seems like a down-to-earth, nice and humble man.
Hi Carmine, best regards from Rick Mangone. So glad you are well and still playing at a high level. All the best to you and Vin.
Your are a great brother . And a great drummer with so much history. I met you at namm .thank you for your inspiration.
Great that Carmine was 11 years older and wanted to help his little brother. With that age difference the older bro becomes more like a father figure and less like a rival.

I've had the honor and pleasure of playing with Vinny a few times, and have met Carmine also. Awesome people.
Carmine is one of the best ever....and one of my personal favorites

+Alana Joos Glad to hear it, Alana!

Carmine put together a book on drumming in the 70's... to this day one of the coolest drum guides/instructionals ever!
First two Derringer albums are Great! Pretty damn good drumming too for a 17 year old? I used to try to play those drum parts from those albums in my first local bands and ill tell ya...it aint so easy, especially trying to copy Beyond the Universe from the first Derringer album. Love that stuff!
The one with the mini floppy vinyl records in the back? I LOVED that book!
I studied drums for a full year before I committed to bass. Great memories.
LMAO "you say Appice... I say Appice, Let's call the whole thing off"
And in Italy, they say "Ah-pee-shey"
Drums Rule!!!🤘👽🤘
We love you both
Cool dude, that Carmine - seems like a real nice guy ... And 'Appy' Birthday, Vince! ... Keep on rockin'🎂
Legends, both of them.
Great story
I love things like this
Hey any videos on the Griffith park and China club / The Palace in Hollywood drum contests circa 1981 82 . Would love to see them
Glad he clarified the pronunication of his last name.
Great story!
Finally after all these years I know how to pronounce APPICE.
They are good drummers and good brothers.
Great story❤👍

Haha... Always love to watch this...
I started playing at 4 years old back in 1964.
we have rhythm in our blood
🇮🇹 Appice family is composed by excellent percussionits
for a long while I thought Carmine was with The Rascals!
both have similar stage presence and tight, clean playing!!
Damn I was pronouncing one if their last names incorrectly lol
So I finally heard how the supergroup of Danny Vinny Kenny and Rick got started. Thanks Big C. Two albums no one can match Derr and Sweet evil. Had to hear it from a caveman
living legend carmine
Vinny is Bang on as well, Carmine is awesome
They are both killer hard rock drummers! I was just listening to some live Ozzy with Carmine and man did they sound great, no offense to Tommy but Ozzy should have kept Carmine.
Cool Carmine! Hope you're well bro! :) David
If you plan on a career in music and you have a chance to tour the world opening for Areosmith quitting high school is a good idea!
"bad ass" is an understatement, vinne is the best
Yeah - white spiral binding, I learned more from that single book about drumming... thank you Carmine Appice!
My brother is 11 yrs older than me too lol
Vinny is a beast.
both brothers are just awesome rock drummers in my personal opinion, but Carmine had an advantage over Vinny, and it's that Carmine had already played psychedelic-progressive and hard rock n roll styles, his experience on these types of rock n roll sounds with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, and Bogart-Beck- Appice band gave him ahead distance in the rock scenario; but again, Vinny is a hell of a drummer himself .......... with Black Sabbat and Dio in his background, I believe his status of a heavy metal drummer can hardly be put to question.
Vinnie's brother, YEAH!!!
Vinny is a bad ass player, carmine is also solid as...but both have their different footprint of playing. 👊
Appice: Vinnie says it's said as Appiceee, Carmine says it's said like Appeace lol
Cool story!
I wish I had a cool older brother
Carmine is such a better drummer on all levels.
Not even
nope, Vinny has a heavier sound to my ears so if you prefer heavy drummers you might prefer Vin, i think they are both great rock drummers but they are different.
01':00" haha, i love you Carmine Appice
Ah-pee-che (not chay)
Tom Savini?
I have never heard two people from the same family pronounce the family name so different - anyone know the origin of this?
+Michael Stephen Actually if you pronounce the correct Italian way, they're are both wrong.
LOL
Ah-PEE-chee...
@@SurfTrip00 🤣
LOL.. whenever there's a chance to drop Bonham's name, there's ol' Carmine!
carmine, your italian
for chist sake say your name right
chist? I guess you meant Christ, lmao, if you are going to correct someone at least have the common knowledge to spell correctly and use proper grammar.
He's American.
Technically, its Appice - A-peachy.. lol
I thought it was that. I was just about to make the same comment.
Not a good idea???? Traveling the world???? Doing what he really wanted to do????
Carmine was ok, but Vinnie was the superior 🤪
Vinny is MUCH better than
Well, I’ve always wondered if I was pronouncing his last name incorrectly. :-)
