- Coyote Swapped Mercury Capri you say? Of Course we love it! This isn’t our first time seeing this potent build shredding down Stick Shift competition without breakin a sweat! We’ve come across this car on a couple events like Drag Week, and it seems the owner treats the car no different during others as he still tows a trailer hundreds of miles to race! Pulling up and shaking down the Stick Shift class of NEAD’s No Prep Throwdown at Eddyville Raceway in Oskaloosa, IA, We we’re happy to witness the monster setup devour it’s competitors!

Light weight, high powered, low rear spring rate, and slamming gears will do that. Not hating on it, I just love shit like that, and I'm a Chevy guy.

Coyote or no coyote, old school "Drive to the track, race then drive home" is the shit! Down the track is one thing, but DRIVING to the the track, making multiple passes then driving home, is sooooo much more gratifying than draggin a trailer! Lol.

Had a 82 Black Magic Capri T-top that I picked up in Springfield Illinois several years ago found it on Craigslist STL as I live about an hour west. Car belonged to a younger guy who had went off to college and left the car at pops house and pops was tired of the car sitting around... I'd seen some pictures of the car and it looked very clean with the add stating like "70k ish original miles,5.0 v8, 4 speed manual transmission, needs tires,been sitting a while, $3000obo". So off to Springfield we go with the wheels and tires from my 79 Mustang stuffed in the back of my Taurus 😂. When we get there car is just as clean as it looked in pics,dirty from sitting but very clean. After what felt like doing a major overhaul in this guy's driveway and negotiating to $2500 we started the 3 hour drive home back to Missouri. This car ran nothing like the one in this video but watching this bringse back...The car ended up being owned by country singer Gene Watson bought locally at a Springfield Ford dealership. All the documentation from him purchasing the car was in the glove compartment along with a Gene Watson cassette tape in mint condition...lol. That car was a good one. I ended up trading it to a buddy of mine by the name of Rick Ruffino for a 65 galaxie 500 LTD. but that's another story....wish I could have all the sweet rides that I've had over the years. Fast cars and fond memories go hand in hand. Awesome car/driver and Video 👍
I bought one in 87 in California. 82 Black Magic with T-Tops like yours. Great car, I've only once seen one exactly like it.

They should start putting these in foxbodys instead of LS motors.
They only cost a shit ton more, and there are way less of them.

Maybe so but it's not economically advisable when you can get pretty much a 1500hp LS engine for the price of a 900hp Coyote.
Devil's advocate here, the Coyote is "wider" due to its overhead cam setup too.
Despair nope a 1500hp LS is going to cost more than a 900hp coyote lol. Pull your head out of your ass. Not to mention a high horsepower coyote will last longer than a high horsepower LS. #facts

That's my favorite year 85 capri bubble hatch.i once had a 79 stang wiith that capri back set up I thought it was cool,some didn't like it.

However, I'd like to know more about the "stock" 8.8 rear end judging by how that thing bites under that 1000hp load..gearing, axles, etc ...🤔 Much respect Brotherman and thanks for sharing this @1320video!

Them bubble back Capris are a rare site. I use to have a 85' BB almost identical to this one. I sold it 10 yrs ago and regret it every day.

Jeramiah Burns cool , sadly I sold mine after going thru a rough period around 2009. The guy that bought it got a sweet deal . Put 11k in upgraded parts. South side machine lift bars, 1 3/4" mac long tube ceramic coated headers. Built the engine myself with DSS billet main support ,Keith black forged pistons , total seal rings, Trac Tech post rear diff with 3.55 gears, Baer racing bump steer eliminating tie rod ends, dropped suspension in front 3 inches, koni adjustable struts , adjustable strut mounts , msd 6al with a accel super coil, it would light up the porcelain on plugs at night like little leds. Performer rpm intake 750 Holley double pumper, holley electric Blue pump with 14 lb spring, billet aluminum fuel pressure regulator, crower racing cam .520 lift if I recall huge duration. I know I screwed up on compression though. Ported stock heads to their max. Turned tiny exhaust port my 1 thumb would cover to 2 thumbs fitting inside exhaust port. @ 120mph steady it got 20 mpg. Was better track engine than drag .. did 12s naturally aspirated. Alot of technology changed or improved. I planned on a 6 speed tremec roots supercharger 4 link mini tub .. but dang it cars gone. My 91 300zx TT is bout to get boosted to 800hp. Should be fun but miss my Capri big time. Did things in it no one will ever get to do like 445 am crossing Hoover Dam wide open throttle drifting rear 295 50 15s around tight bends. Didn't have go pros in 97 to 99 era sadly.
