    Picked up my moss green Zf yesterday - blown away! Its replacing my Z6. Night and day AF difference, but the aesthetics are off the chart. Build feel is 10/10. Performance when MF with peaking and zoom in on eye auto is ridiculously good. Its so good in the hand that when I picked it out of the box first time my thumb automatically moved to activate a film advance lever. very impressed.

      @@ElementaryWatson-123I like the articulating screen for being able to fold it up and protect it. Honestly, it is something I barely used on my xt4 and would be fine if they wanted to just do away with a screen altogether. I understand those who want the tilt screen though

      @@MarcoMarfia the green is more muted IRL than some photos depict but it isn’t anywhere near drab. I like it but will see how I like it throughout the first year of ownership. Nikon Australia is doing a free colour change in the first 12 months so no risk trying a non black variant

Spent yesterday shooting with a 24-70 & 80-200 AFS ED, both shtonking big metal barrelled lenses, even when on my F5 you support these lenses with your non master hand - no problems. with other lenses like the 40mm F2, adapted M mount lenses, the 24-70 f4 z mount - its all good. @@poniatowski3547 wow that is a great thing Nikon Australia is doing, you cannot go wrong with that for sure. You still have time to make a change. Yep that is my doubt, if I could grow tired of that color after a while and how it looks in real life. On the contrary you never go wrong with the old classic colours like all black or silver/black. They are timeless.

    When the announcement for the Zf happened, I did something I have never done before; I preordered that very day. Mine arrived today and I can say that I am incredibly impressed. This is a beautiful, well crafted camera. It arrived less than an hour ago so I have not had much chance to shoot with it yet, but based on my initial poking around, it is super responsive and the controls are highly customizable for however you want to shoot!

    Just as a note on the resolution of the ZF:
    I’ve been shooting with the ZF alongside a z8, and I can say for certain the image that comes off the ZF is so clean that it feels like it is a much higher resolution than 24 megapixels. I would go so far as to say if you want to run it through the super resolution process in Lightroom likely to get a better image than you can out of one of the mechanical-shutterless cameras in the same lighting circumstance.
    I’m extremely impressed with the 24mp sensor.

    Coming from the Nikon D90 and later the D600, I put in my order for the Zf the instant pre-orders began being accepted. This release by Nikon was well timed, I was about to make a full switch to Fujifilm, whose X70 I've been enjoying. In terms of sheer sensor imaging quality, I don't expect a great leap from the Nikon D600 (am I mistaken?), but the autofocus, IBIS, and video capabilities of the Zf are all things I look forward to on top of the retro design.

    I got mine in a few days ago and love it already and I haven’t even used it on a shoot just yet. I believe it’s a perfect compliment to my Z8 as a second camera as well as a everyday body. It is on the hefty side but that just feels well built. I did get the small rig adapter to extend the grip and glad I did. I spent several hours setting it up as close as I could to my Z8 as far as functionality as well as taking some test images around the house. It’s focus speed is far superior to my Z6ii which I sold, keeping my Z5 as my third body. I will say the Af thumb button seem a little far for my hands with also how the camera size and shutter button layout is. Yes it’s totally doable but while I’m still old school back button focus, with its layout I’m actually going to try not back button focus on this body. My little testing tells me I may not need it any ways and just use the half press shutter button instead as the auto focus seems that good. This camera says have fun and take your time vibe. Time will tell or different situations will later tell me if I need to use bbf later on. But out of the gate, I love this camera already having it only for a few days. Ps the sunset orange is freaking gorgeous. ❤ Way to go Nikon!!!

    When Nikon released the DF - they claimed "Pure Passion. Pure Photography". Well the Df was a disaster - like it was an after thought and a cash grab from Nikon. They just slapped together parts from the best of DSLRs and didn't think it through. With the Zf they have - boy did they. This is going to go down as the camera that cements the Z mount in peoples mind - this is the turning point for Nikon.
    I just got a ship notification from Nikon USA for mine -- the wait is excruciating! Sold my Z6 II. This is the perfect camera for just about everybody. Its really a 'mini Z8' that tugs at your heart :) Seriously this thing has the perfect feature mix of ANY camera from ANY manufacturer out there. Nikon has hit one out of the stratosphere this one. This will be remembered as the first mirrorless camera - along side the Nikon D700 in the digital era. Seriously - whats not to like?
    As for people that keep going on about resolution - I really don't get it. All of Nikon's DLR flagship cameras (D3, D4, D6) had **less** resolution than this. And if you really want to take a high res image you got the sensor shift 96mp mode. Granted this should be best for still subjects/product photography/macro - but what are you shooting at that high resolution regularly anyways? Resolution is a mute point - 35mm iso 100 film had a resolution of about 20mp so resolution is a not a real thing for 98% of the people - for the other 2% well get the Z9 or Z8.
    This camera is puts a stake in the heart of Fuji and Leica. A Fuji XT-5 at $1700 body only now looks so overrated and overpriced. Why would you get a Leica at this point when you can use Leica glass on the Zf ???? Canon and Sony - you have NOTHING like this and I doubt you will be releasing anything like this over the next two years. Sony - your A7C looks totally lame compared to the Zf. Canon you better start working on your digital A1 soon. If I were running Fuji, Canon, Leica or Sony - I would be having a lot of sleepless nights. There is NOTHING in their catalogs or road maps that can do with the Zf can do. Go NIKON!

    Picked mine up on Friday. I definitely need the grip which I ordered and should get in a few days. I might go with something like a peak design clutch strap as well or instead of a grip. I’ve used my x100f without a a grip for years but this feels a bit hefty to not have a secure hold on it. I’ve already seen a post somewhere that someone wasn’t happy with the smallrig grip for this camera but I’m hoping it is sufficient. I’ve been overall happy with most smallrig gear though the z9 L-bracket wasn’t great. Fingers crossed. I’m sure we’ll see more 3rd party stuff show up in the next few months.

    Cheers from Aus guys - somewhere between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. I ordered a Zf last week with a 40 mm prime f2 I think it was and the 24-200 f4-6.3 I think. Bordeaux Red! Forget black, gotta get some colour into life :). Moving up from a D7100 hence I need the lenses. Waiting for stock to be available. Hope to get it before the Z6iii comes out. All up cost a bit over 5k... only Aussie dollars though so, you know, not real money 😂 . Later guys

    I’m on the fence about the ZF. I wish the screen wasn’t a flip-out screen and that it had a joystick. I have the Fuji XT5, and I love using its two-way screen. However, I’m a Nikon user at heart, so that ZF is quite tempting.

    • @AccessiblePhotography
      @AccessiblePhotography Год назад +2

      I’ve got the ZFc just now and the flip out screen is great. I can see why people don’t like it but for low or high vertical shots it’s a winner. For awkward positions, say Fungi photography, you can set up to the side of the camera and still take pictures with ease.

    I believe the expeed 7 in this Zf that makes this body a wortwhile consideration to ponder upon? something about this processor further enhance that 24 pixel in that body, despite it is the same found on the Z6 and Z6II? That B&W selector is a smart choice to implement.
    As for me, the Z8 will suffice as it covers all grounds perfectly. I may get the Zf as my back up and stick a permanent 40mm on it or 50 f1.8.
    Amazing....over a span of 3 years, Nikon has really elevated its status in the mirrorless realm from being last on the grid and ended up leading the pack with so many iterations, be it a camera body or lens. The arrival of that Tamron 35-150 really complicates matters in lens selection. Only recently Nikon came up with the 600 pf. That pop out suddenly already they have another home run there.
    How I wish Nikon could contemplate the possibility of going into medium format? Time to give the GFX and X2D a scare???

    This is a tough call for me. What I love about my Df is is the full compatibility with my old AF-D and Ais lenses, and the fact that you can buy used F-mount lenses for so cheap now. The Zf's form factor and performance looks to be perfect, but honestly I don't need all those features, nor do I want to spend a fortune on Z lenses. As an amateur, it is tough to justify, but as a die-hard Nikon shooter from the film days, it is a hard to look the other way!

This is the modern camera exactly I expected it should be designed and made today. True, many details look and construction is from past but because it was real quality then it is now.
    Or maybe I am to retro too. 😅

    Can't wait for the video with a production camera (frankly, surprised Gray's doesn't have one to review by now - are you just teasing 🙂... ) So the Z body roadmap is becoming clearer (imho) A z6 III may incorporate all the features of a Zf in a more (non-retro) and robust body. It will satisfy those of us (z6 owners) who want the latest 7 processor - faster AF - better IBIS - better MF support in a slightly bigger body that retains the existing dual-CF Express/SD support. Pixel shift still sounds a little gimmicky to me but I'm keeping an open mind until I see more reviews. It could even stick to 24MP and I'd be happy. However, with this trail blazing Zf coming in at $2k+ USD, am I the only one worried about Nikon keeping the awesome Z6 price/performance point? It's one of the biggest reasons I invested in a z6 II in the first place. A z6 III at the same price/point as the Zf would be ideal and serve both the retro/color and serious hobbyist crowd. Am i dreaming?

  • @johnd5244

    I am really thinking about getting one. I like the look, what features it has is a plus. Very curious about pixel shift. The fast autofocus is a major upgrade. Like the B&W option without having to go into the menu. Yes it is only jpeg but you can still capture and process some great images from jpegs. Price is right for sure. Now all Nikon has to do is do a Ricci model. 😎 Thanks for sharing with us! Have a great day. 📷☕️

    The ZF is really appealing. I like the old style. However, weight is currently a huge issue for me and it would have been nice to have the weights on screen when discussed. Also I see mention here of no AF button. Can I ask someone to clarify , is that the switch I have on the D850 by the lens mount that flips from MF to AF. I noticed that missing on my ZFc and really miss it. I want the old style camera to avoid having to use menu functions all the time!
    Also, the cable release (I aways called it a plunger in the old days), is that the only way to remote activate the shutter? Is there a intervalometer built in at all?
    Thanks, Alastair.

    Hi guys, I am waiting to see what the Z6iii will offer in order to decide between Z6iii and Z8.
    Could you please ask Ricci to tell Nikon that Nikon users would like that the fast JPEG shooting modes of Z8 and Z9 (pre-capture, 30fps, 60fps DX, 120 fps 11MP) to be also available in RAW (maybe 12bit). Because of the video capabilities, we know that processor and buffer can handle at least 8.3K 12bit RAW 60fps (with minor vertical crop ).
    The Zf seems much better than my previous Z6 and Z6ii and even far superior than my Zfc.

    I'm told that if you use the ZF on Hi frames per second it still has shutter blackout. Is this really so? As a general/street camera it's probably wonderful but I want to get away from shutter lag/blackout on my Z6ii... Hopefully the Z6iii, if it comes will have a stacked sensor and no lag etc..

    • @hyau512
      @hyau512 Год назад +2

      If you use the mechanical shutter on any single-lens camera, you will get blackouts. To avoid that you either need separate optical paths to your eye and sensor (eg, with rangefinders), or you have a shutterless sensor-viewfinder architecture like on the Z8/Z9. In that regards, the Zf is more like the Z6/Z6II/Z7/Z7II than the Z8/Z9.

    • @musiqueetmontagne
      @musiqueetmontagne Год назад

      @@hyau512 Thanks, yes I understand that but with all the hype about the bird auto-focus and Expeed 7 etc, I was surprised that it still had the same lag problems of the Z6ii etc.. I hope the Z 6iii will have a stacked sensor and Expeed 7 so there can be fast enough read-off to have no mech shutter as the Z8/9 etc but still be a smaller size... We shall see.

    This seems like a great camera, but I don't love the retro style. I've become used to the main and sub command dials and the full-fisted built-in grip of the D cameras. I love a top info panel. The only thing from this style I appreciate is the ISO dial. The lack of AF ON button is a deal breaker for me. However, I would need to try it out first. I still like the Z6 series and if they can put the guts of this camera in the Z6, then I'm all in for my first mirrorless.

    Just two things I miss from ZF
    1st higher resolution sensor. I'm so spoiled with 45-60 mp sensors now that I "can't" go back to 24mp. 30-40 mp would have been really nice here.
    2nd ZF requires those retro style lenses. 24/28/35/50/85/135 retro look lenses would go so well with ZF.

    When I see the pre production jpeg, I could probably obtain the same result from an old canon G11 or Nikon from the same era. Of course the AF of the ZF is probably much faster and efficient but I am not sure of the real progress for a still photographer. The design is cool but the size is almost the same as an oldDSLR. I must say that I nothing against this ZF, I love Nikon and I appreciate a lot your channel content.
