Hey can you update your Jordan shanks Spotify playlist, because I prefer to listen to these while exercising, also could you do a video on physical health and wellness, for example exercise, dieting, but more importantly skin care (IK there is an old video, but an updated one would be good). A final request I have is can you give some advice for students who have school holidays coming up and what to do during them.
It’s true, it was an expensive library card I got (cuz US); I could rant all day about the disservice of the highest impact scientific journals being behind paywalls to the general public. And those paywalls aren’t like Jordan Shanks cup of coffee Patreon costs, more like “pay $275 and hope this journal issue is the only one you need”
I read so much planning stoned, urban heat islands, water sensitive urban design, and societal functions now fuels me being a science humanities teacher
Love how you engage with viewers in these videos, it feels like a one to one conversation and really helps for me (as a high func. Autist) retain the knowledge you are spitting. Keep it up 👍🏻
Growing out of a social group that was so pessimistic and being in that weird liminal stage can be stressful but fuck am I sick of just hearing about problems- solutions are actionable. I really enjoy this channel/comments section because it helps to remind me that there are a lot of people out there actively doing good & more every day are turning from the problem mindset to the solutions mindset- especially with how uncertain these times are, it’s a nice little anchor. Props man
I struggle to know when to combat misinformation/inaccuracies and when to recognise it's futile/unhelpful. Like, I am an agreeable person (for the most part), sure, I can defend my interests and argue with the best of them, but for the most part, if someone's views don't affect me I let it slide. What is my obligation to the community to protect against things like pseudoscience or misinformation? Especially when informing people is unlikely to change their opinion, and (if anything) may entrench their position. Is my obligation to efficacy in changing minds, or to simply voicing the truth? 2. I like what you were talking about regarding the comfort of feeling guided by a 'something', especially because you were seemingly squeamish about verbalising it. I've found the concept to be comforting too, at times, but often end up fighting myself and telling myself that it's silly to feel that way. I'm being dumb, because I'm essentially telling myself "look, I know this gives you a sense of purpose but it could be considered silly so abandon something that seems to be doing harmless good for you" I'll try and commit myself more to studying this week coming, I know you're saying P's make degrees but I genuinely love what I study and feel it will be a benefit to society if I apply myself more. Thanks for the video!
2:08 No you would be creating great plans that then get ignored by the minister either because they don't care, it's too politically dangerous, or it doesn't fit their ideology/agenda.
Its so easy to get excited about a future career/degree but then lose the passion in the middle of the grind for it. Motivation ebbs and flows. If it still resonates with you you'll find a way to use what you learned at some point or let it lead you to the next pursuit.
Piggybacking on this topic a little, What advice would you have about making the most of a job that you hate doing? Im two years into a six year military contract and I cant stand the culture and personalities that are commonplace in the military. Thanks for making these videos, they've been such a huge inspiration and kick up the ass to try and be better than I am.
Motivation is hard some days. Even worse working out how messed up things are at the moment with covid, the control, taking away privacy and the corruption in our government. It’s just sad. I worry about the next generation and what life will be like for them to.
@@PedalScience I use to drink 6-8 coffees a day with 2 sugars and I knew it wasn't good for me to have that much coffee let alone sugar in my diet. Initially I worked on cutting it back to 2 coffees a day over a 6 month period. But once I got down to one I replaced it with Chai or water. One of the defining reasons I was able to stick with it was that I noticed coffee actually effected my weight, particularly on my face. It was motivating when friends or family asked what I had done to make my face slimmer. I will admit, coffee does have its benefits but like any drug it should be taken with a cause. I've had it maybe twice since quiting just to help stay awake and focus for important uni assignments but I no longer NEED to have it. I've had loads of other benefits like better sleep and minimised anxiety. One thing I will say if you are considering is defining why you want to quit. It makes it a whole lot easier. I hope that helped! 😁
@@tashsikkes thanks - that makes me feel a bit better, I rarely have more than 3 shots/day, usually just one double espresso and that's it, and never with sugar, so perhaps I don't have quite as much of a problem!
@@PedalScience it takes about 12 days for the caffeine receptors in your brain to return to normal levels, meaning tolerance is lost. What i did when i quit was go cold turkey for the 12 days (you might have to wean off it), and now I make sure to not have a coffee a day for more than a week without a couple of days off to the reset the system. Doing this stops any withdrawal symptoms and also keeping the maximum effectiveness of the caffeine hit by not allowing a tolerance to build up. I usually dont drink it unless its needed to get something done and this method has made me feel in control over caffeine and has made it become a tool rather than a dependance.
i found that i'd try to think of something i was interested in, but i'd not find anything. so i started with what i do or use everyday .. Hi Jordan I am interested in how someone should proceed with their passion or subject area/niche in a creative field that someone else has already capitalised on. For example many people who could and would like to focus their energy learning about and making content similar to friendlyjordies would ultimately fail as there is no demand for another gigachad of alternative political commentary. Should someone continue with their passion even if they are an unoriginal lapdog ?

Peace and love.

Amazing as always! Glad I quit coffee a while back, best thing I ever did
Any tips / motivating factors? Not sure if I want to fully 'quit' it but I definitely have a low level addiction

Sisyphus. Boulder, uphill, daily, all eternity. Y'know
This was one of your best I think.
i found that i'd try to think of something i was interested in, but i'd not find anything.

now i disected my electronic scooter to the main source which is the batteries, and i studied on youtube and now i make my own battery packs.
- i also bought withe centrelink a smoker bbq thingo , so now i make my own beef jerky
-i definately do not grow my own weed
-i am planning on making my own alcohol,
-shoes, i learnt how to clean them properly so they look fresh as fuck
-tobacco is nicotine so i bought a vape and nicotine
-food i make my own food, i have my own herbs and spices, i bought MSG because it makes everything taste good
