You probably didn't know Denver is the coolest city in the U.S. right now.

  • Welcome to Denver, the city with the least oxygen, but the most love in the continental United States. I descend upon the prim and polished Cherry Creek neighborhood, which is full of shopping, fun eats, and the Moxy, a hip little Marriott owned boutique play and Stay where the check in desk is actually the bar. In fact, it's impossible to escape beer here in Denver as there are over 150 craft breweries to choose from.
While the hotel is super fun, Denver was calling, so I head over to the famed Union Station in the heart of downtown. Truly charming and stylish, this Art Deco Beaux Arts beauty will impress you, making it a great place to chill out or check out the fun and funky local art. Most come for brunch to experience Snooze welcomes anyone looking for the best brunch in Denver. In this colorful, retro casual spot, you'll find long wait lines for one of their coveted outdoor tables and for good reason. The breakfast here is an event from their decadent flavor bomb pancakes to their elaborate savory eggs benedict which require, for health reasons, one of their loaded Bloody Marys to make it all go down right.
Completely stuffed, I decide to see the city in style while not leaving even one carbon footprint. Introducing eTuk, Denver's premier fully environmentally friendly tour company. These locally manufactured, fully electric tuks come with heated seats and fantastic views of the city, letting you whip around downtown to take in all the sights.
As my guide pointed out some of the finer features that Denver has to offer, like the Cherry Creek pedestrian bridge, perfect for morning runs, the decadent Cruise Room located at the Oxford Hotel, the lovely Larimer pedestrian mall and the opulent Performing Arts Center, which proudly showcases two giant Botero sculptures, which are minuscule compared to Denver's giant blue Peeping Tom Bear, all worth seeing.
Leaving the old school charm of downtown Denver I pop over to River North or RiNo Arts District, famed for its abundant world class street art and super fun and funky cafes. A trip to RiNo isn't complete, I'm told, without hitting up the Denver Central Market, which is located in this reclaimed warehouse, chock full of anything you could possibly want to eat or drink. This is a great place to explore and even throw back a few before picking up something for dinner, and don't forget dessert either, with world famous Temper Chocolates waiting for you. Heading across the Platte River to the hip Highland District, I find some very photogenic spots like Happy Camper Pizza, which is like an Instagram post that serves food with its giant disco ball, garden nooks and dripping twinkle lights.
There's also Little Man Ice Cream, which, besides mixing up the craziest flavors, is housed in the largest milk pail I've ever seen. Photo ops aside, I was getting hungry so I checked out Avanti F&B, which is a collective eatery. What's a collective eatery, you ask? Well, it's like you die and go to comfort food heaven. This place is a foodie paradise with amazing dishes from around the world which makes it super easy to forget about your diet. Add in a great indoor/outdoor space while noshing on your new favorite nibbles and you've got it made.
Sated and happy I decide to take in some culture at Denver's world Class Art museum. This institution boasts some of the most outrageous exhibits. From Keith Haring Triptychs to Skull Riding Triptychs, this was a visual wonderland that gave good cause for Colorado's stance on legal marijuana.
As the sun sets on the Queen City of the Plains (yes, that’s what they call Denver), I submerge once more downtown for dinner. Sure, you can keep it low key and hit up Duffy's Cherry Cricket, whose no frills charm is overturned by the delicious burgers and boozy milkshakes, but I decided to class it up a bit and check out the Mediterranean marvel Rioja on Larimer Street. This class act of fine dining is one of the best restaurants to experience Denver's cultured cuisine, from delicate amuse-bouche to savory pork belly appetizers and perfectly grilled Colorado rack of lamb. Don’t forget about their decadent desserts where you can literally eat the spoon.
After dinner an evening stroll completes a perfect day. The sky here in Denver is large, and being a mile up perhaps you are closer to it which makes it all that more impressive. Looking back at all the wonderfulness that this high plains city offers, from amazing food, culture and fun, it’s easy to see why many residents call it heaven on earth, and not just from the altitude.

I have to say, I'm very impressed with how you handle the negative comments without resorting to name calling or putting others down. You responses are incredibly succinct and disarming. It only highlights the nastiness of others. I'm glad to hear that people were very conscientious of others safety as much as they can. I experienced something similar in Seattle this past March. It was a much needed trip to get out of Nebraska where people really aren't as 'Nebraska Nice' as they say they are.

Here’s hoping you will return after a degree of normalcy returns. Denver is especially beautiful in spring and fall. We generally have spectacular summers which have been marred lately by wildfires. As I write this, the vast majority of Colorado remains in severe drought. It is a perennial problem for us. That said, when you return (and you know you want to) check out the Denver Botanic Garden (DBG) and try and attend an open-air evening concert. Honorable mention: Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Both the museum and DBG are very close to downtown/Cherry Creek and easily accessible. And thanks for the great video of my hometown!

Of course there are and will be some natives that feel that this video is crap and you only went to mainstream stuff that in words of some locals "ruining the city". But you experienced a lot of good things this city has to offer, but if and when you do come back I suggest asking true local denverites and coloradans what their favorite spots are and you will find a whole rabbit hole of Denver and Colorado that most visitors and transplants normally don't get

Before the days of internet (yeah, I'm that old) I used to love travel, where you HAD to do this if you expected to see anything. Now it's more of a hack to avoiding the mainstream. That said, bars were closed, and it was the tourist board that was showing me around, so I felt I was in good hands.

Just got back from Denver. It sucked. Traffic was terrible and every road is either under construction or needs to be under construction with all the pot holes. There are homeless people everywhere, and not just in bad areas, EVERYWHERE. Average 300 days a year sunshine... I call BS, there's no way. The entire week we were there it was cloudy, raining and dreary. There is trash all over the place, even up in the mountains, and I always thought Colorado was big on keeping there state clean, guess I was wrong. I will never go back to Denver, maybe Colorado Springs, but never Denver.

Steve I think you single handedly had the worst trip I've ever heard of and probably have effectively stopped everyone from visiting;) Sorry you had such a bad experience although I find it hard to believe that there is trash all over the place, even up in the mountains. There's a hellovalot of mountains in Colorado. The homeless issue is something I think the whole country is going through and I do hope the economy picks up which will hopefully help the issue. Tourism returning back to cities like Denver makes up a big part of that, so even though I'm sorry you had bad weather and traffic, glad you visited. Hope your next trip is a bit better my friend.

@@Rt27555 I believe you. But most people from Denver I don't think watch travel films intended for first time visitors. I'm sure if you went to NYC for the first time you'd want to go to Williamsburg, grab a drink on Bedford, maybe eat a cupcake at Magnolia. I would never go anywhere near those places as someone that lives in NYC, but I would never say they aren't worth seeing for the first time.

Cherry Creek is a bit of a shopping mall with rooms, but other places like RiNo and Avanti I thought were pretty fresh, and the people there were super cool and local. In general everyone we met out and about were locals, there was almost zero tourism going on, and everyone was super cool and offered lots of great suggestions to their favorite places (like lots of peeps in these comments...) Nicely done video and you appear to have done your research ... with one exception, when you refer to the Brown Palace Hotel as having "a very unfortunate name." It was named after it's builder, Henry C. Brown NOT the "color." Among an older generation the name was seen as elegant and is no more "unfortunate" than "Waldorf" is a funny-sounding name for a hotel. A hundred years ago one heard it called "The Brown" in Shanghai, or at Shepheard's in Cairo. And it was the first hotel with an atrium-style lobby. In the 1890s "The Brown" served cuisine that was the equal of any ritz house in the world. At the time, Denver was the second city of the West--second only to San Francisco and larger than Dallas, Houston or Los Angeles.

    • @TravelClast
      @TravelClast  3 года назад

Well I do appreciate your input my friend, and yes, aware it was named after a person, not the color, but just the same, pretty unfortunate he was not Henry Mocha, Henry Auburn or even Henry Burnt-Sienna;) Just the same it is a spectacular hotel, one of the finest I've seen, rivaling anything on the East Coast for sure and a fine example of just how advanced Denver was which I don't think many are aware of. When I went personally I didn't see any. Now however, based on the amount of comments about the homeless, I'm assuming, like in many cities in the United States, there is a visible increase in homelessness like never before. I don't think this is a negative aspect to Denver, or any city, that finds themselves in a homeless crisis. I emphasize with those that have been squeezed out of society because of a failing economy, a failing nation to take care of them. I commend those that help the thousands in need, especially during these colder months where being homeless can be life threatening. This year has been nothing less than terrifying for most, and for some, that terror sees no bounds.
