Well done Aryna! 15 consecutive matches won in Australia! Azarenka's great fight in the second set. Looking forward to the final against Rybakina. Two of my favorites! 🔥❄️

Azarenka actually did a great job handling Sabalenka's pace in this match. It's just impossible to match Aryna's aggression when she hits a winner off of every ball
yeah azarenka is more about constructing points while sabalenka constantly applies pressure and threatens winners on every ball
Yeah unfortunately for her not only is she lost a step in her speed due to her age, but Sabalenka hits MUCH harder than anyone else she's ever faced.
In comparison her old rival SW in 2012-2016 averaged ....
79mph and 2650rpm on her FH
76mph and 2200 rpm on her BH
Fastest was 109mph
Meanwhile Sabalenka averages...
83mph 3025 rpm on FH
79mph 2500 rpm on BH
Fastest groundstroke was 112mph
Sabalenka has definately improved her defence, she was chasing and getting a lot of balls back in. I like that new element and she is still improving.
It seemed that Aryna couldn't improve her game any more, because you couldn't hit the ball any harder. But she improved in defense, today she was defending like crazy... Aryna, who runs to every ball like that, will be very difficult to stop in AO...
Sabalenka seems to respect Azarenka a lot 👍

Azarenka always plays good down under! She looks so great especially at 34!
Not true. Look at her results from 2017-2021. Those years she either didn't play or lost in the 1st rd. Just a bland hardcourt specialist. She's never really been impressive on clay, and was only good a couple of years on grass.

I was up close right near the court, best live women’s match I’ve ever seen. I also watched Thompson and Dimitrov, great experience.

Too early to tell. They havent met each other - they have played less capable and accomplished players so far

This Match reminds me of How Sharapova would be Playing some of the Best Tennis on tour and had the form to beat just about anyone, then she’d have to Face Serena, who would just drag her around the court like she wasn’t the #2 player in the world.

Vika is in great form and playing Amazing! She can I believe win The Australian Open
And I lived for every moment Serena would give Sharapova false hope just to rip it away!
Aryna always seems to produce some of her best tennis when she faces Azarenka.

Please don’t EVER speak Serena’s name in the same sentence as Sabalenka or any other player. Serena is the GOAT, and her name is sacred to the sport of tennis.Sabalenka could never reach Serena’s level if she tried because she doesn’t have anywhere near the capacity of the GOAT.

It seems that Aryna was quite surprised that Victoria gave her such a warm embrace at the net, thinking that Victoria would've been bitter and taken the loss personally, but it was a good show of sportswomanship to prove Aryna otherwise that there's no 'bad blood'
Sabalenka's game is the closest to Serena's of all the women on tour currently. Power and precision

@@windowman9406 You are completely right about Sabalenka’s weight. I’m sure that number was a typo. I’m sure she is around 130 lb mark. Cannot remember, but I will be watching the stats as they are listed during her matches in the Australian Open. Cannot wait to see another battle between Sabalenka and Rybakina.

You can say the same for the French and Wimbledon semis when she blew leads in the semis. With that said the mental is just as important as the physical so you got to give her opponents credit for being able to handle the pressure better than her.

True, and don't get me wrong, I love Sabalenka, but playing her must be very distracting. People used to complain about Monica, she's nothing compared to today's players.

Will be interesting to see how Iga will cope this year against Sabalenka on this form,but all this hard hitting high stake stuff is also high risk if they don't land in because then you're vulnerable without more variety in your game.

Azarenka will never return to the level of tennis she was playing when Serena was on tour.
Great display of power hitting from both players, which can be good and bad. I expect Rybakina to change things up a little after this. Vika played the sort of match that Sabalenka loves to swing at imho...
One thing is for sure, no slump for sabalenka this 2024
Sabalenka along with Swiatek, Rybakina, Gauff and couple of others are doing very well. Their game is not just about power. They are complete tennis players. I wished Azarenka won this match, but she's past her prime.
I would say Świątek is coming in two years to be described as a complete player.
@@jukkao.parviainen8669 ???? Did you mean Sabalenka? Swiatek is the most complete player on the WTA tour, and the best. No one has more all-around skill evel and consistency than Swiatek, or even matches her. A couple of players, Muchova, Jabeur for example, have very varied games, but Swiatek can do all the same moves, but is better top to bottom. Sabalenka, as good as she is, is still a power player w/ a huge serve. She doesn't move esp. well and is vulnerable at the net.
Sabalenka is a power player. She's an exceptionally good one, but that's what she is. Very little variety to her game. Huge serve and power groundstrokes. And yes, Azashrieka is done winning singles titles on the WTA tour.
@@kevinlakeman5043 No, I meant that from this mentioned group only Iga can be described as a complete player, after two years still development. Her overall athleticism is above of any other WTA tour players. And then we hear these things about „hard hitters”. When in USO2022 they measured constantly the shot speeds, the result was that Janik Sinner hit forehand 4 mph faster than Iga as the best from ATP side. On the backhand only Thiem was able to hit similar speed. Iga’s average was higher than top20 measured from ATP side. And that was two seasons ago.
Remember back in the quaint olden days when we thought Azarenka had a loud obnoxious grunt? The innocence of it all! She is like a church mouse by modern standards.

not really, she was playing poorly in the last 4 months compared to the start of the season. we will see how she handles things when pressure starts and the season goes on which is when she starts to faulter

This was the matchup i wanted to see in last year's Australian Open final with Victoria being the victor, but Elena put a stop to that (not that I was really upset)
I feel bad for the people sitting close to the court listening to both of them screaming.
The people pay money to see them whenever they are playing and also scream their names out of love and admiration. Don't feel sorry for them, they aren't bothered by the noise, infact it adds to intensity. Just say YOU don't like it and keep it moving.....
