  • POLICE MURDER IN MANNHEIM: Criticism of Islamic associations - calls for readjustment of migration policy
The Federal Ministry of the Interior is considering ways to deport criminals to Afghanistan. "Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser is intensively examining options for how criminals and dangerous people can be deported to Afghanistan again," the Reuters news agency learned from ministry sources on Monday evening. "In these cases, Germany's security interests must clearly outweigh the interest of the person concerned in remaining in the country," it continued. "The possibility of repatriating Syrians who commit serious crimes or are classified as dangerous people is also being examined." At the same time, however, there are warnings against illusions. Given the difficult security situation and the fact that there is no internationally recognized government in Afghanistan, difficult questions need to be clarified.
The trigger was that a man from Afghanistan killed a police officer in Mannheim with a knife at the weekend. Politicians from the SPD and FDP then demanded that deportations to Afghanistan should be possible again. The Greens put the brakes on the debate.
The Interior Ministry points out that a comprehensive package of laws for faster and more frequent deportations is already in force. This will make the deportation of criminals and dangerous people - especially from the Islamist spectrum - much easier. The fact that the federal police are currently not allowed to support the states responsible for deportations to Afghanistan goes back to a decision made by then Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer (CSU) in August 2021 after the Afghan government was overthrown by the Taliban. However, deportations must be particularly pushed for people who pose a potential threat to public security in Germany, the Interior Ministry continued. If this is not possible for "legal or factual reasons", consistent prosecution and, if necessary, further measures to avert danger by the responsible state authorities are particularly important.
