The next one is definitely Lido di Manhattan. Because that owner was really REALLY out of her league, yet it turns out she WAS in fact competent. She not only updated the menu successfully, but got into catering and got her own wine brand. She even survived COVID.
It is CRAZY that of the small pool of still alive businesses from the show, THIS ONE managed to be in it. We thought the man was crazy, but maybe he was just bad at coping with stress mixed in with social awkwardness? Idk, if he can make the business thrive for over a decade after the show, then he clearly has the intelligence to learn the business, even if he did need a push in the right direction from Gordon 😅
@RealityTVRescues nah I think he's a major cunt. If he was arrested for assault and had to be sent to a mental health facility and threatened Ramsay on TV, what has he done behind closed doors with his wife?
He named his dogs after the kingdoms of man in Lord of the Rings but then he also named his daughter the same way with Lorien. Sheesh. Glad things were good for them at least but lol
Smart of them to hit that niche of "dog-friendly traveling." There are so few hotels and other accommodations that are so welcoming of dogs. That's how they ended up so high in Trip Advisor--all those dog owners being grateful for a hotel like this.

@JohnSmith If you’re ever in Central California, go to Carmel by the Sea. It’s one of the most dog friendly towns in the world, and that’s according to hard data. It has a wonderful, leash free beach, a dog friendly hotel, dogs are welcome in all the shops, and restaurants have dog menus. I’ve visited all my life and my dogs have always had a blast. I just don’t like to take them into any stores with fragile items because I’m afraid of wagging tails. My dogs are well trained and socialized, but tails are gonna wag and if you talk sweet to them, they’re gonna wag harder. Beautiful town with some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

the murder mystery night isn't a bad idea, the only thing is that it was mismanaged, if I lived in the nearby, I'd like to go to such kind of event myself, like, it's a very interesting way of entertainment in which you can get people together and with potential to make the place known for an unique thing (hey, do you know Roosevelt Inn? The place in which Sherlock's Murder Mystery Night takes place...), luckily, they have managed to replan it in a way it's profitable...
Just realized that John named his daughter AND his dog after Tolkien references (Lorien and Rohan). Bro just needs to put the books down at this point 😂
Typically for residential properties, yes. However, not sure if they have quite as extension restrictions on the sale of hotels, as the typical sale period can take years to achieve on average.
Just as another update after having watched the episode and this video, and wanting to get a further update on whether John and Tina could get closer to retirement - there was an offer from a townhouse developer, Blue Fern Homes from WA, USA around April 2024. However, this sparked outcry from the citizens of Coeur d'Alene. A temporary moratorium was issued by the city in June 2024 against any demolition or exterior alteration permits, which may affect the ability of the sale to go through. So on one hand, John and Tina absolutely want to retire and they do want the hotel to pass on to someone who will continue their vision and success. On the other hand though, they've had two deals fall through and since time is running shorter and shorter on the rest of their lives, I guess things are starting to get desperate. This is definitely a case to continue to watch unfold.
i’m from coeur d’alene, can confirm that i was one of the citizens who protested the redevelopment. the area’s housing market is getting out of control and the roosevelt is a historically significant building
How much you want to bet John sabotaged both of those sales? Narcissists will ruin anything that could make their partner happy always at the last minute. It's a way to remind their partner that they hold their happiness in their control. Poor Tina. I don't know John's full diagnosis but part of it is he doesn't like change especially if it would benefit someone else. He'll keep them bound to that place and her bound to him, well after they're both dead.
Honestly, he could have made the Murder Mystery thing work, if he made it a two night event. Who murdered the noblemen? Find out tomorrow on day 2 of the Murder Mystery event. It would definitely help with people booking a room.
If that was Jon Taffer, he would leave the rescue. I would only wished if Gordon asked his wife where they keep the costumes so he can bring the fire department and watch a mystery theater where he opens the curtain where the costumes are placed in mannequins. Then with a match, Gordon lights them up, forcing the owner to watch his past burn to the ground. He would be fuming for this.

the murder mystery night isn't a bad thing, it was a good idea as an entertainment to promote the place, like, something with potential to create a landmark in the city and get people together (like...a social event in the local community), the only bad thing is that it was mismanaged - charging a low price that didn't pay what they were spending to prepare the event, but as we can see, after the improvements suggested by Gordon, they brought it back and it was a success because this time, they have planned it in a better way (like, selling packages with overnight stays and such)
