Hello ! Tomorrow is my first wedding ! I think your videos will help me a lot. I will probably go on your patreon soon because of your youtube videos. So keep the good work. You deserve reward for the time you take for us.
Taylor! I’m very new to the professional world of photography. I’ve only done a handful of family sessions so far, all of which have been outdoors, so I am not too familiar with the challenges that come with shooting indoors. I’ve made a concerted effort to break out my camera during family gatherings, however, in an attempt to familiarize myself with the experience, and I’ve encountered a few struggles. I have a Nikon D5300 with a 50 MM 1.4. I probably shot most of the pictures with the shutter speed anywhere between 1/320-1/500, the aperture anywhere between 1.4-2.8, depending on how many people were in the shot, and the ISO at 400. When I would turn the flash on, my camera would seriously struggle to focus. If I turned it off, it would normally take the shot without an issue, but it would be significantly darker. When I edited the pictures in Lightroom, the pictures that I took without the flash were substantially more grainy than the others. I might have adjusted the ISO, as well, depending on whether or not I was using the flash. I’m curious to know if this focusing issue is merely an issue with my camera, or if there is something I’m doing wrong that I can fix. Also, something important to note is the pictures my camera was struggling to take also had a lot of lights in the background, so I wasn’t sure if it was just overwhelmed. Like I said, VERY new. Lots of questions. Obsessed with your channel. I’ve learned so much from you so far!! So incredibly grateful for the unique insight that you offer.
Great video.. I have a bday session at hall were the lighting is not great.. I have godex 860.. that i have been trying to learn before the shoot... I usually shoot natural light
How do you feel about shooting with two bodies? I don't think I've seen you do this, maybe as you have a second shooter. But as a solo shooter for a wedding.
Hey Taylor, thank you for all of the educational content, do you use a trigger when your flash is on a stand?/what trigger do you use? I'm new to off camera flash. Thanks so much!
Hey Taylor! Awesome videos and I really appreciate these. I've got my first wedding this weekend. Quick question - What settings do you use on your flash? Do you have this set to Manual or TTL etc? If Manual, what do you usually set the power and zoom settings to?
If there's no ceiling, I usually just put myself in the best spot with whatever light is given. (Hopefully string lights, or some sort of light illuminating them) If there's no light at all, I'd do an off camera light 90 degrees from me pointed straight at them with whatever modifier you have. I have a speed light 4 foot softbox in my car, but haven't had to use it yet luckily.
Great videos! Question? If you are at a reception that is outside no ceiling or wall to bounce the off camera flash, would you say have on stand angled towards couple 45 degrees? With it without soft box attached….thanks
That I what I thought. Thank you very much for your content. You are the reason for me working on getting into weddings. You make your content very easy to understand and in a funny way.
Great! 👍🏻 On the subject of people in the background - I disagree. It’s a Wedding! Its not all about dreamy delicious bokeh behind every shot of the couple! I think the bride and groom like to say, ‘oh look there’s so & so in the background there. Why blur out all the guests. They are in context. Unless of course it’s a kind of portrait shot of the couple.

I need to get a light stand already! This was great. Thank you!
Jessica Parsons amazon has many cheap ones!
hi Taylor do you use TTL mode for the flash ?

Good luck Dan! Hope it goes well. Will you be shooting on your own?
Thank you! And yes, I will be shooting on my own.
Hi man I love your videos we are very tips on posing in directing couples
What happens if the reception are you are shooting has a black ceiling?
You make it look soooooooo easy. I dread receptions. Are you using a full cto? WB setting?
So you typically only use 1 flash for the event/ reception?
Hey Taylor when you mention that your second gets wider shots, whats your method when its just you shooting? Just swap between body's?
Yah I usually have my second body on my arm all day
How would you light an outdoor first dance with flash assuming you didn't want to get close with your on camera flash setup? Thanks!

Ty sir
Was that Terry Bradshaw at the 10:16 mark?
Last time I had such a big room, I couldn't bounce flash at all. What to do about this? :(
Get an assistant and shoot back camera flash
Do you hybrid shoot at a reception Taylor.
If they hire me for a highlight film as well I do.
Hello Taylor
Are you using TTL for your flash or Manual?
appplemandan I’m always manual. I find ttl too overpowering in most situations.
That I what I thought. Thank you very much for your content. You are the reason for me working on getting into weddings. You make your content very easy to understand and in a funny way.
Where do you get those CTO 'gel's that clip on the flash?
They came with my SB700
Great video Taylor! Do you think 85mm's autofocus should be fast enough for reception? Thinking of Sony 85mm 1.8 but not sure about it's af speed
Why don't you use more of the 50mm?
chukwudi okafor 50 is fine too. Just have to get super close for speeches and dances, which at some venues gets awkward
if you have the possibility of putting subtitles in videolars turkish please can you please thank your big fan
the pigs at the end saved the "like" for you ;)
The educational content and effort means nothing!
Great! 👍🏻

Jamie Burgoyne all to often unhappy guests ruin good couple shots
Samuel Quinn You’re kidding! 😮
I had to bin lots of good shots because of unhappy guests in the background.
Samuel Quinn Unhappy guests at a wedding - you’re kidding me again.
Your dental appointment should've been at 2:30
Another awesome video. Thanks
