Tow Mater RC on a Wild Willy 2 Chassis

- A fun semi-custom build on the Wild Willy 2 (WR-02) chassis. This idea has been done before but when I saw another done like this, I needed to make one for myself. The body is from a toy store RC car and the chassis is a stock Wild Willy 2 Chassis I got from Japan cheap, so it was a budget friendly semi-custom build that makes me smile when I see it. I will take it out for a run at some point, I just have not had time when the weather was nice enough. I hope you all get a giggle out of it, I love seeing it!

Thanks Fil, I love the way he turned out. I crack up just seeing him sitting there so happy! It should be interesting driving him, he is going to be a tiny bit top heavy but overall I think it will be hilarious!! Especially with his little hook swinging behind him!

It turned out great and looks hilarious, I love it. I just wanted to put it out there this was not my idea but a recreation of one I saw. I wish I could remember where I saw it originally to give the person credit for the cool idea. This is one of the handful of kits that just make me smile when seeing it. It was totally worth the wait to find a good deal on a chassis for it!

I am glad it put a smile on your face! I have a small handful I smile just seeing them on the shelf, this is definitely one of them. He does fit in well with the others and was worth the wait to get done. I'll get him out for a run when I can, it should be hilarious!

LOL, it turned out really cool and looks so happy and fun just sitting there! I will get it out for a run soon, the weather and schedules have not lined up very well lately. I am too nervous to run the camo one but this should hold up pretty well, it is meant to be a little kids toy so it is all pliable plastics so it should be fine. A bit top heavy but it will be hilarious watching it wheelie with the tow rope dangling behind it!
I literally spent all day yesterday modifying a radio shack car (everything fought with me) so I understand how much it takes to make something like this I love it

Yeah some of the RS kits are pretty easy to convert and others can fight you the entire way! Overall this one was pretty easy, just coming up with the bits to make up the front mount and making sure the holes were in the right spot was the only tricky part. It turned out really nice and I love seeing him all done. I will get it out for a run soon I hope.

This is a great project. It's funny and very cool at the same time. I think this may inspire others to do builds along the same line with this body and some of the other characters from the movie.
Thanks Michael, I love the way he turned out. I have tried finding others from the film to do the same but the ones I have come across are awful small. I am always checking the RC isle at the stores when I am in there just in case I find something else that is about the right size to convert! @@AddamsPlayground Tomely did two Mario's. About three or four years ago he took the 14th scale Mari cart r/c car with proportional steering and converted to a brushless system. Recently, he took one which was smaller scale Mario r/c car without proportional steering and converted it. Both had the Mario leaning one way and then the other when IT turns. They are made by Carrera.

It did turn out really cool and I love the goofy grin on him! Custom builds are sometimes way more fun than regular ones. They can be more difficult at time but often much more fun!

He turned out really nice and he looks so happy! I do not necessarily have plans for the body kit I have, I can offer that to you fairly cheap if you want to stay stock or this is a great and fun way to go. Let me know and we can work something out.

I am glad you liked it Mark! I have looked for others to try and do a swap with them but the ones I have been able to find are too small in size to work out. I look all the time when we go to the stores at the toy RCs but they are either too big or too small to fit on the chassis and boy have toy RCs gotten stupid expensive!!! LOL! I love Mater and he is my favorite character. That goofy grin cracks me up when I see him. I will get him out for a run this weekend I hope, weather permitting! Take care mate!

It took a year for me to find a inexpensive donor kit to use under it but it was worth the wait to to see it done. I look forward to seeing him bumble around the yard, it should be hilarious!

That looks good. I find myself always searching the Walmart toy isle for a donor body.
Every time I go to the store I look down the RC isle for something that looks perfect but the sizes and wheel bases are usually so far off. I am super happy I saw this idea elsewhere and was able to find the car on eBay to steal the body from it. It is so fun and happy looking!!

Try using silly putty buy sticking it to the body to line up where you need to add holes

Each time I go into the stores I make a trip to the RC toys to see if any of them look like good candidates for swaps but most or too small or too bog to fit on most chassis. This one does almost look like it was made for it though.

No it is the bigger version. The 6 inch is much easier to find but is too small. The biggest identifier is the actual fabric "ropes" on the rear and not the molded plastic ones on the smaller ones.

No it is the bigger one. You have to look for the ones with the real fabric rope and not the molded plastic ones. That is the best advice I can give, they are getting harder to find.
