Fun fact from someone who works there right now, no matter what if someone rings the bell you're supposed to say thank you.
to the workers right?’
I could care less if it's healthy food. It's damn good.
Beef is a health food.
@@igloozoo3771 Yes
Agreed
Amen. Sure way to sink the ship is to no longer put out the foods that they are known for
I really hope Long John's finds a way to stay in business they were one of my favorites!
Most of them in central California closed down a couple of years ago and were replaced by Starbucks. As if we needed any more Starbucks. My ass is still chapped about it 😂
I’m not a huge fish person and I try not to eat fish from fast food places. That being said I ate there last week and it was great. Super good. Not good for me but it was great.
They have changed the Ingredients in the batter and oil that they use since the news coverage of their “most unhealthy meal”. Apparently they no longer use trans fat so that is good. Even so I wouldn’t have it all the time but it’s at least more healthy than it was before. (If they are telling the truth)
Agreed
U can tell he is a Jew
I loved the smell of long john silvers as a kid and the food was so good. The fish and chicken was the best. Hush puppies had it's own distinct taste. They would put crumbs of the fried batter into the box you order. Sad they shut down near me and since I havent ate at in years.
My favorite place for fish, and who doesn't like their chicken planks.
I have 2 daughters & w the 1st I salted my fish which I’d never done before. 2 wk later found out I was PG. 17 yrs later I did it again & joked I must be PG & I was! We still laugh 23 yrs later how LJS was my pregnancy test twice!
What health fernatics don't relize is you are not going to eat at Long John Silver's everyday only about once a week at most I love there fish and clams
Who eats fast food once eat week that’s quite a bit
Long John silver's was always my favorite place to eat
My first real job at 15 1/2 was at a Long John’s. On my 1 year anniversary I walked in for my shift and the manager gave me my last check and said it’s closed now.
Sorry 2 hear that, Julio.
We appreciate your service my dude
RIP hush puppy
So sorry Julio! My 1st job was at 15 1/2 at a Long John Silvers.... I worked there until near my graduation. I am willing to bet that store is gone or something else now.
Update: It is currently getting knocked down and built spot is turning into a 7/11 with a gas station.
We have a Long John SIlver's connected to a Kentucky Fried Chicken (Greeley, CO). Yum!
Same in Cali
I was a kid but I used to love their crispy fish
Still Iove their crispy fish
LJS is amazing!
Never had it before till right now ain't very good
I miss long John Silvers 😔
How many here remember "Arthur Treachers" Fish & Chips... That was the place to go in the 70's
I DO!
I still sometimes refer to LJS as Arthur Treachers. That's what happens when your grey matter starts turning black.
@@gregggoss2210 imagine how old you must be to mix "LJS" and "artur treachers" and "Howard Johnson."..almost time for me to go...
Yeah!
@@carlh-thehermitwithwi-fi679 , Ho Jo's fried clam strips. My favorite!
I don't care what anybody says. I love this place. I'll eat 5 gallons of the crispy. IDK. P.s. I'm 6 ft tall and 195lbs.
Long John sliver is my favorite fish 🐠 so good
Don't care what anyone say, I loved L. J. S. and the food was sure tasty though maybe not the healthiest! It didn't bother me to "break rules" as I'm 5' 10" and weigh 167. Let's face it, there aren't many seafood places as much as burger joints.
Bro what happened 🤣, I miss long john silver's, they are ducking good
I still enjoy stopping at Long Johns if I could find one. Fried or not, their meals are still good.
I 💙 LJS but they are getting very expensive! A family pack meal is our go to when we decided to have Fish 🐟 at LJS! I normally go to their website and get any coupons they have available at that time. It does help on the cost. We usually order the 18pc all fish 🐟, double fries & slaw! Its delicious. Definitely not healthy but its so damn good! I 💙 their malt vinegar. I buy it by the bottle. Yes they do sell the bottles for a low price just ask them.
Ours closed when it came out that all the employees got sick because of the heat in the kitchen. This is Oklahoma in summer. The employee I knew said it was 130 degrees and the company refused to fix the air conditioning.
Probably a franchisee. We had the same issue saving grace corporate brought us out and well they fixed it
Worked there '85-'87. I miss the lemon meringue and pecan pie!!! Also, they changed the oil in the '90s and it leaves a coating in your mouth!!!
Love the hush puppies
Da 💣💥
Yes like Red Lobster cheddar biscuits ✔. LJS is decent but rarely a stand alone restaurant in 2021.
Same there 💣
There is a LJS/Taco Bell near where I live. I like what they have to offer, but it's greasy as hell.
LOL
Fried is the best 😷
It all is really greasy I work for long Johns/Aw company
There use to be a place called Skippers. They were so much better than all the chain fish places. They used Beef fat to deep fry their fish. At certain times during the year they had salmon nuggets 😋. Don't know what happened to the chain but I miss it very much. Another chain H salts was good too.
S/O to everyone that wore a LJS hat
I love their fish.
I truly do miss eating at Long John silver's, delicious food
They had there.
Their grilled salmon dinner with green beans and corn is AMAZING! Sadly the one by me(Lou. Ky on preston hwy) hasn't had salmon in a month😭
I love longjohns shrimp and fish love Hush Puppiest too and I usually substitute onion rings for their French fries
Rudy Z.; I usually subbed the fries 4 an xtra helping of cole slaw. @ the time, Yum! Brands was LJS's owner so the cole slaw was essentially KFC's recipe. Nvrthlss; gettin' the Fish & More w/hushpuppies & 2 helpings of cole slaw satisfied me (didn't care 4 the fries; they were 2 soggy 4 my liking).
As a Captain D's fan I hope you can do a video on them. They are awesome!!!!!
Great video. 🙂
I love Captain D's but outside of the South East I doubt they are well known
@@jonnaking3054 I was gonna ask where they’re from, I’ve never heard of em in Illinois
S/O to all the others who have worn the hat!!! May that ship never sink. I still remember the article coming out calling the Big Catch a "heart attack on a plate". Had just started cross training on front counter and a customer brought it up and said he wanted something healthier. I laugh to this day. We were an A&W mix, and he ordered the Papa Burger with no veggies, cheese curds, and a diet soda. 300 more calories just on the burger... not sure on the trans-fat or sodium counts though. IF there is a LJS rep looking thru these, COME OUT WITH the southern style fish you tested out in 2014 before the soup/salad/sandwich promotion (which was awesome too). I remember customers asking about that a year later after only a single week of testing. GOOD TIMES. And, *facepalms* I still say "thank you" when I'm visiting my old coworkers and someone rings the bell....
I was the creative director on their ad campaign at the time. That was the sort of day from hell where the CSPI was percolating a little bit in the morning and by two in the afternoon all these different HuffPo-style aggregator sites were carrying it.
Did anyone else ever order "crumbs" as a side? They were basically the leftover pieces of batter that fell from fish after it was fried, and it was free! The amount of trans fat I ate as a kid is scary lol
I wish I knew that you could order the crispy crunchies
from the fish better on the side
They mentioned them a couple of times in the video but called them "crispies" which is actually what I remember always calling them but I guess they are called "crumbles" in the restaurant. Didn't know you could order them by themselves but have heard people ask for extra with their meal.
We used to line our window with them at the beginning of the day to put the fried food items on to absorb excess grease. You run the batter through a strainer to make them, kind of likle a funnel cake. Then you pulled them out and crunched them up in the window!!!
@@tmapes1989 I'm kind of ashamed but I have to admit when I was a broke kid looking for a snack my go-to was Long John Silver's free crumbs and ice water! Lol
I always ordered extra crumbs and so did my grandma every time or she sent you back to long johns for crumbs I don't care what anybody said I love their food my grandma ate their regularly and was a very thin person not saying that for myself but I love the taste of the food and I love the food and I really hope they come back stronger than ever!
100% on the Lent crowd! When I worked at LJS, people lined the door with the ash cross on their forehead. 👍
I wish there were more of them.
Huh I was today years old when I learned ab the Bell at LJS....I’ve never heard anyone ring it 🤣
LJS fries have always been mediocre. Considering they have the best batter, I never understood why they never offered batter-dipped potato wedges. Those would be awesome...
I agree completely w u
I love the fries
Fun fact after you mix the hushpuppy mix with water you have to let it sit for 45 minutes before cooking it
Right now, how about replacing frying with baking, grilling, and broiling? And getting rid of saturated fats.
I cant find em nowhere anymore
In the Phoenix area prolly 15-20 stores
Depending on how much you like LJS... move 😷
I live in miami gardens not 1 in sight
2 here in Sactown!!!
Niceeeee video
Closed down in Hendersonville nd with no notice!
Both near me just closed :( now you have to drive almost an hour
I don't know when they quit doing it but they used to put the fish on a bed of that batter I loved that as a kid, I noticed in the 90's when I was well grown up I found one and they didn't do that, said I had to ask for it. whats up with that? I've not seen one since I moved to the west coast 25 years ago.
I remember Skipper's seafood out of San Diego.👍
Why do they keep closing stores here in Houston TX...one just closed last week..I'm ticked off
I mainly like Long John Silver for the hush puppies.
They taste a little different from when I was younger but I still lie them.
They closed down most of the LJS in Central California a few years ago and replaced them with Starbucks.
There's one in, I think Visalia. That uses some weird brand of tartar sauce instead of using the LJS tartar sauce. I have no desire to go back to it because I didn't like the tartar sauce and it's just not good enough without the tartar sauce for me. I'm sure that I'm not the only one.
I want some now and there's none where I am.
I ❤ Long John Silvers!
why
@@finlayadamson6278 Deep fried seafood. What's not to love?
Mr H L ong John had realy good fried fish. I miss it. We used to pull in to our dock before the sun came up and grill snaper that we just caught. cheers
It's good but a bit greasy.
@@perplexingperceptions8888 They could never get all the grease off the dining tables but the napkins were free...
Long John Silvers has had a bad run the past 12 or so years. I used to have 4 locations within 10 miles or less of me. Now that they have closed a lot of locations. The nearest one is now 29 miles from me.
What is this video, a time capsule? All the data being talked about is from 2017 or earlier, lol. POSTED ON MARCH 10th 2021 ??
😭😭😭they fucking closed the long John silvers by my house. Rest In Peace long John silvers of Apopka, Florida, we had some great times 😢
This channel has nearly 1 million subscribers!?
I still like the fish. It’s taste.
It’s about that Captain D’s for fast food fish.
We used to have long john silvers here in Canada then boom they were gone
Don't you have captain D's
Nope thats a US 🇺🇸 exclusive, had to Google it lol
I fuckin hated working for long johns. Didn't help that our franchise owner refused to fix a broken pipe under the store which had collapse and had a foul odor whaffed into the dining room. The oil we switched to turned to plastic when it landed on the tables. Plus everything was kept out of date except when the health inspector came by.
What oil do they use in their fryers? Almost ALL vegetable or seed oil are really really BAD!
It's on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know.
Me too. Love long john silver.
I actually like their chicken lol
Same.
Same. Over here in Singapore, the fish in their outlets are nasty as hell.
Go back to the 80’s when the fish batter was good, also hush puppies where good back then.
This is 2021.
I think the batter has always been the same. The BIG difference is that in the 80's, all the fish was cod. Now they use the much cheaper Pollock.
Bring back the Pineapple Cheesecake!
I can't stand fish, but I like their chicken and fries with some malt vinegar.
AGREE
Imagine it's it's the 80's and your mom doesn't like McDonald's. That was my mom.
No longer have a LJS-A&W here in Moore Ok Got on fire and torn down.
4:30 what just happened
Long John Sliver is mostly in the south or few western state BC Alabama still have long John sliver place
Thanks
Where can I find Perkins 😷

I live in Michigan and they’ve been here for as long as I can remember. In the 70s it was my favorite place to eat
@@amarreder6241 We have Perkos here in Sactown
The sodium is what made its taste so good.
They have started getting stingy with the crumbles.
1:42 Who are those girls in the commercial?
Long John Silvers, or Arthur Treacher's ?
Both 🤤😋
First Arthur’s then LJS. Both are great!
In The 80's I loved their food. When you ordered fish you got a thick fillet of fish with a nice batter! Today you get a greasy piece of batter with very little fish! I pass by Long John's every day going to work! If they put up a sign offering free food I would drive on by that's how bad their food is in 2021!
This guy nailed it to a tee. They were days where i'd drive by and the smell of old grease from 1960 filled the air.
every time i pass by it’s always empty and dead
I have never even seen a Long John Silvers. Do they even have them on the West Coast.
Saw quite a few in the LA area.
2 in Sactown
They closed this joint in hanover dangggg 33 whater mabug ddddddaaaaannnnggggg lmao
It's 2021. Last reference point was 4 years ago in 2017.
"ring the bell" is also at Arby's.
Arby's?
Well it is a cowboy themed
Tonight I am making copycat LJS chicken planks and shrimp. Sadly, we moved to Manila in Philippines and our Long John's closed 😢
Last time I ate there it was like the oil was decades old. Food was greasy overpowered with the taste of oil and burnt fish.
NEVER AGAIN!!
(136th and I-25, Westminster, CO)
1946 to 1969 is "it wasn't long?"
Long John Silvers is my favorite place to eat at during lent on fridays. Destroys my stomach but it’s worth the bad diarrhea the next day
You must be a dutiful Catholic lol
Omgggglol
Closed down in my country
i dont eat fast food for health and i hope no one else does! In the 70s LJS was great...dont know what happened soon after but food not tasting good.
I remember a place in the 1960s......I think it was called..... 'H. Salt Esquire's Fish & Chips'. Big pieces of fish. I believe I've only ever visited a Long John Silver's twice. Once in the 1980s....& once 2 or 3 years ago. It was ....'edible'. I had never tried a hush puppy....and didn't even know what they were. Like deep-fried balls of dough or something. I was unimpressed.
There is an H. Salt here in Sactown on 16th Street
The food there got so bad it made me sick.. the oil coats the inside of your mouth and its chalky and it turns your stomach. I keep going back to see if it gets better buts it's always bad for the past 10 yrs.
What's up with those 'crispies"?
Just extra batter. We placed them under the fish to absorb the extra grease
I still like Long Johns. If you want Fish & chips, eat here much better then Red Lobster.
Bring back peg legs
Bring back the chicken legs
H. Salt fish & chips is better.Ljs is okay now though.I ate from there in 98' and got sick from the food.
SEAFOOD RESTAURANT DISNEY
I love LJS, yes its unhealthy but so is McDonald's. I would rather have fish and chicken planks and hush puppies than a lukewarm big mac
These guys basically copied off of Company Man youtube channel.
Having not visited LJS for twenty years, I stopped in last week to the Daytona Beach, FL location. There is exactly zero percent chance I'll revisit. The fish and shrimp were mushy and I've had durian fruit that tasted better than the cheese curds and onion rings. The best part of the meal was the cocktail sauce..
Tell them and they will recook it, no big deal
Don’t go back again k? I can tell u are a caucasian. This food is great and delicious. Never go back there again
LjS'S batter flour is the best in the world I have ever tried.
The pirates in the ads from the 1970s scared the hell out of me when I was 4 and 5. I wouldn’t step foot in the place.
Dosen't matter what you order because it all tastes the same even the fries taste like fish
As someone from the UK I find this a really offensive way for fish and chips to exist and be prepared.
I was always told that Long Johns was as close as you could get to British fish and chips .
Remember Arthur Treachers with the Malted vinegar
Lol
