"I don't want you to think I'm whining." BUDDY! You suffered severe traumatic injury, sat waiting in an ER for 9 hours, was operated on without anesthesia, and spent 5 months relearning how to do basic motor skills. I think we can all agree you've earned the right to whine about it.
A great reminder of how life can totally change in a split second and how much we all take for granted. Good to see you coming out of the worst part of that nightmare.
Brother, you DON’T owe us anything!!! Thank God you are recovering from a horrific accident. Please just focus on your recovery and we will be praying for you. God’s blessings on you and your family!
I sympathize with you ... A fall in the bathroom took me from being an active outdoorsman and equestrian to walking full time with a cane (nerve damage) I try to keep this thought ... No matter how bad I feel, or no matter the difficulty I have getting around, there are countless people so much worse off than I am. I feel I am blessed.
I missed you. Last I heard you were having problems with the shooting range. FYI we're about the same age and unfortunately girth as well. Getting older sucks. Glad you are still alive at least. You are one of the good guys, and we need you on this planet. Sounds like you lived through the equivalent of the Spanish Inquisition. I just hope you don't get addicted to pain meds now. I bet they didn't even offer you a bit of whiskey before the ordeal. Sounds a little like a Civil War reenactment of a period field hospital. I don't think people realize what an injury like that is like. Simple things, just going to the bathroom is an ordeal. Man, I so get you on this. And I'm so very sorry you went through so much pain. I'm glad you decided to share this though. Now I have an excuse not to carry in the groceries. Take your time. Your core audience will be waiting. May God be with you, dear sir.
Glad you back, the circumstances surrounding your absence are more common than you may think. I spent close to forty years as a Paramedic/R.N. I have seen injuries similar to yours and you're lucky to be relatively back to norma. I'm close to being the same age and body type. Fat guys don't bounce. I'm glad you're recovering and hopefully getting back to normal soon.
Not me, bud, after 7 years, I was burnt out. I couldn't do it anymore. I am glad there are people like you and some of my friends who could keep right on going with it. Thank you!
God bless you Mike. I was once in a similar situation after a catastrophic accident. It is a humbling experience to be helpless and totally dependent on others. Hold tight to your faith in God and he will see you through. I'll keep you and Mary Pat in my prayers. Hang in there! All the best to you and yours.
Holy moley, that is some tough sledding you've had to endure. From your description and the severity of your injuries, I'm actually surprised to see the extent of your arm mobility as it is now and know how hard you have had to work to have even that much range of motion. I was even more surprised to hear you have been able to get to the range and shoot. That is great. I had my right hip and both knees replaced in 2013, so know some of what you've gone through, but I still had my upper body strength in tact. Boy howdy, that is a long road back you've traveled. May God continue to strengthen you to do all you can do and keep you empowered you to do to inspire others.
Welcome back, recovering takes time, I am 77, a vet and know the feeling. I love your historical knowledge and I can wait for more outstanding expertise on our mutual interests. I watch some of your talks over and over especially on the Schofield and S&W intrigue.
My wife went to the extended care/rehab facility for broken leg...and her experience was not quite as bad as yours. Not great, understand, but better. She would echo your "these places are understaffed", and from what I saw she was not wrong. Here in Arkansas it was mostly Caucasian folks but very much caring, dedicated people. I'm totally on board with you (I tore my rotator cuff and it was both incredibly painful and took a LONG time to sort of heal) and hope you get better soon. I have no doubt you will, as attitude is everything, and yours is great!!!. Get well soon friend!
Mike, I'm sorry....... your story telling had me in stitches, right up there with hunting teddies. Glad the worst is over. Hope you are at 100% real soon. Spent a few weeks in a nursing home "rehab" and it was awful. When it was all over, I developed a new appreciation for life in general and praise for most of the nursing staff in the hospital and rehab center. Your humor and whit are in tack and that is a good thing.
Gosh Mike, I'm sorry to hear this happened to you! This is what I call a SHTF moment. I had wondered why we hadn't seen you for a while but I didn't have the wherewithal to look into it. I'm glad to see you are still around. I hope you heal well and quickly. I wish you the best and we'll be glad to see you again if you feel like doing any update videos. Get well soon!
Growing old gracefully is a challenge, please take your time, slow things down and enjoy the little things. I wish you all the best in your journey to recovery from the fall. So sorry that you had to go through such a horrible experience.
Glad you’re back brother. My father and I have been fans for many years. Starting with your written work, then your u-tube channel. Do for you first,we can wait and are glad you are getting better. God bless.
10 years ago at the rie age od 49 I fell out of a box truck and broke my back in 7 places. Ended up with surgeries and rehab taking over two years to get back on my feet. Now I'm legally disabled. I don't have a lot of money but I'm telling you I am thankful for every day. 25:15
Prayers for a speedy recovery. Age get to all of us. I’m constantly being reminded by my knees and a neck injury that I’m no longer as young as I believe I am.
Good to hear from you. My dad used to say, "getting old isn't for sissies." Your experiences remind me of his struggles with hips, knees, injuries, strokes, etc. Not fun. Glad to have you back and semi-vertical. Keep up the good attitude and hard work, and keep praying. We'll be praying for you as well.
Good gracious you really did yourself one bad one. My brother knocked his shoulder out in a mountain biking accident recently and it's been a long road and PT for him to return that shoulder to like 98% strength. This was the first time in his life he's ever had a dislocation at age 46. For as broken up as you were, I'd say you're moving forward quickly by this time. I know all of this medical attention has cost a fortune, hope it hasn't destroyed you financially. Glad to see you back.
Sorry to hear about what happened to you, but glad you're on the road to recovery. I have missed your content for sure and will be here waiting for the guy who got me into black powder revolvers!
Dang Mike! What an ordeal to go through! Be dang careful of those stairs, very dangerous as you probably know. Thanks so much for the update, and great seeing you again!
I've missed you Mike. We got Rob's message to know you were out of commission. Glad to see you're doing better. FWIW some of your history videos are the best anywhere. Maybe that will give you some more videos to release. You've been in our prayers here. Keep going.
Welcome back Mike glad to see you. You remind me of my little brother in he has had similar incidents but when wearing flip flops...even in our Winter (Fl). Broke his hip mowing the lawn, fell off a ladder again wearing flip flops.... other things so common demonitor... flip flops! I hurt hearing your update. Glad your back hope your feeling better you've been through a lot.
Glad to hear you are on the mend. I live with some physical restrictions, but I can do most anything one way or another. It has been sixty years now, and I thank God for what I have and what I can do I live by "Never give up, Never Surrender". I am able to shoot, but I am not able to walk down range to collect and change targets, with out pain. I try to not let anyone know I am in pain. If I did they would not let me change my targets. I will not do that untill there is no other option. Keep up your physical therapy, in all activity. Our prayers are with ya way down here in Mississippi.
I’m so grateful to hear about your progress. As a religious Jew I’m also a man of faith and prayer and G-d seems to be helping you a lot. I would suggest getting the permit and keeping Duelist’s den but only go there accompanied by someone else who can drive your truck if need be. You gave me great advice about cleaning smokeless residue from .45 Colt cowboy loads fired with a Howell cylinder in a black powder revolver when I first got my Uberti 1858 new model army revolver and my Howell cylinder nearly 2 years ago and between what all you told me about cleaning and alignment plus a Dustin Winegar cleaning video I’ve been able to take my piece out about 10 times and clean it about 10 times just fine and so far I’ve put nearly 3 boxes worth of ammo through it
Welcome back i am glad you have recovered. Blessings from Luxembourg europ. I know what you are going through, i had an accident in 2014 and still working on recovery till today despite 1 rehab 6 weeks and a second rehab of 3 month and 3 surgeries. Stay strong my thoughts are with you
Mike! We missed you like crazy! The nursing home/ rehab facility story is unfortunately pretty typical. It actually sounds like you're experience was better than a lot of others( even though you're was not great). You are not whining. We love you and we missed you. Thank you for the updates. It sounds like you are recovering well, all things considered, we are all praying that your rapid recovery continues. You do not owe us anything, we owe you for all of your years of hard work and dedication to the community. I know you're a humble guy that doesn't like to ask, but if there is anything at all that you need or want, please let us know, and we, as a community, will make it happen. Thanks, Respectfully, Joe
Damn, gave me shivers listening to the details of your accident. I remember during a first aid course, the tutor telling us that the majority of accidents happen at home. Glad to see you back. Looking forward for your speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers.
Glad you are getting better. I know a little of what you are going through. I was blown up in the army 50 years ago. I now get shots in my back, shoulder, knee and hand. I crushed a vertabray in my back. As I have been fond of saying it is hell not to be 18 any more. But it is what I did at 18 is why everything hurts. Keep getting better Mike we will be here when you get back or just need to talk.
Welcome back, Mike. Very glad to hear you're recovering. Appreciate the very personal insight into your experience. It doesn't seem like whining at all, and if anything did justify whining it would be the kind of injury you suffered! Keep up the great work and tenacious attitude!
Wooooo! Dang, brother! I feel for you! I am so glad to see you up and around. Just about everything that could go wrong, did. At least you didn't break a hip!
I'm also king of the single trip grocery bag carry, but I'm single, so it's only food for one guy, one week. What a terrible mishap!!! We talked about you around the campfire at Fort Frederick and missed your presence! I'm glad you're looking good and healthy! I'm sorry to hear about Duelst Den.
When I was 21 I was in a horrific car crash and much of your story sounds familiar (albeit usually more severe than my circumstances were - at least I was young). I completely understand how hard it is to face every day knowing that things are going to be miserable, but sure enough things do become slightly less miserable by the day. I'm glad to hear you were able to push through and return home to some degree of normalcy and I'm also very glad to hear you're keeping up with your exercises. Those make a bigger difference than many would think. I got to skip a couple extra weeks of planned rehab because I was so diligent towards mine. Obviously your results may vary, but I guarantee the reward is worth it. Also glad to hear you're maintaining a constructive attitude (focusing on what you can do rather than what you can't). I'm not gonna lie - that's an area I struggled with. There were some days where I just didn't have the strength to buck up and stop feeling sorry for myself, but at least they were few and far between. Maybe that's normal? In any case, it doesn't help. It sounds like you're approaching this in the best possible manner. Just know I'm with you in spirit! P.S. adapting to life with a cane is indeed initially humiliating, but in time you'll learn some cool tricks, maybe get a nice cane as a fashion accessory, and then it's not so bad :P
Oh my god man I hope you have a swift and easy road to recovery because that is horrific! We've missed your videos very much and hope yo see you back soon nut if you do decide to hang up the hat or post periodically we will still check in and check with you
Wow, dude. I missed your videos but I'm very glad you're recovering as well as you are! I've known people who've had less injury than this and just spiraled down from there, never really coming back from it. So keep it up, and know we're rooting for you!
Hang in there, my friend. I went through something from mid-November through the end of March that kept me from doing what I loved to do. Slowly getting better every day, and I'm back in the gym where I belong. Things take time, especially as we get older. Don't worry about us thinking that you're whining. We were all worried about you and glad to have you back, in ANY capacity. And we're here to support you as well! Looking forward to the next video! Prayers of comfort and strength from hotter n' hell central Texas!!
Not right that they can just pause the case and re-write the laws to suit the case at hand. Hope you can get fully healed up soon Mike. That is the most important thing at this point.
Glad you are back, you were missed! Got my first B&Cap revolver! 1851 .36 Pietta with the 4 5/8 “ barrel. It’s beautiful! Doing the mod with the Uberti Plunger. Got the SliXshot nipples and loading lever extension. Cleaning it this week and making some paper cartridges next weekend! Thanks for inspiring me. Hope your healing continues, best wishes sir!
Very glad to see that you are doing better looking forward to seeing your videos again. I’m wishing you a very speedy recovery. sincerely David from Rathdrum Idaho.
"I don't want you to think I'm whining."
BUDDY! You suffered severe traumatic injury, sat waiting in an ER for 9 hours, was operated on without anesthesia, and spent 5 months relearning how to do basic motor skills. I think we can all agree you've earned the right to whine about it.
Seriously! You're a tougher old dude that I am and I'm only slightly older than you.
I'm glad you're recovering ok under the circumstances.
darn tooting
Damn right.
And furthermore I heard no whining
👈😉🙏😇❤🤜🤛
A great reminder of how life can totally change in a split second and how much we all take for granted.
Good to see you coming out of the worst part of that nightmare.
Thanks Glenn
Hickok45, age-wise, I am between you and Mike. Old-timers can't take falls like we used to.
So good to see you're even here,, looking forward to your full recovery
Believe me, I noticed. Glad you’re doing better. Stay strong, Mike.
I did notice your absences I was looking for your videos. Glad you're doing better. Old age is not for the faint of heart.
Great News! I really missed you. Greetings from Germany
Indeed. Really thought he quit, as I'm not following him on any socials.
Brother, you DON’T owe us anything!!! Thank God you are recovering from a horrific accident. Please just focus on your recovery and we will be praying for you.

Maybe try intermittent fasting?
Jeez Mike, I'm sitting here just shaking my head in disbelief , It's a horror story. And also a cautionary tale. All the best from NewZealand.
Glad you back, the circumstances surrounding your absence are more common than you may think. I spent close to forty years as a Paramedic/R.N. Well done Mike, good to see you back, greetings from England. 🎉
Very glad to have you back and we are praying for a speedy recovery

From an 83 year old follower: so glad you are even here!! Glad for your continued recovery!
John
Positive outlook makes all difference, keep at it,great to seeyou back
Someone told me that the number one cause of injury among older men is us thinking we're still younger men. Stay safe out there my dudes.
I keep forgetting I'm old, I in my sixties but I'm inclined to think I'm still 35
Yep I’m guilty of that. I’m 72 thinking I’m 40.
@@thomasschreiber9559this is exactly how I ended up getting operated on, twice!
I’m 58, Yet I feel like a 57 year old youngster!
I'm 63, wife says I act 13 most days. But I still try to do stuff like I'm in my 30s
Welcome back, recovering takes time, I am 77, a vet and know the feeling. I love your historical knowledge and I can wait for more outstanding expertise on our mutual interests. I watch some of your talks over and over especially on the Schofield and S&W intrigue.

Hey Mike, glad you’re back! Was worrying about you. Dang, heal up. We 1954 models have to take care of ourselves. We’ll say a prayer for you.
Damn, gave me shivers listening to the details of your accident. I remember during a first aid course, the tutor telling us that the majority of accidents happen at home. Glad to see you back. Looking forward for your speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers.
I'm sorry to hear about the fall. Very happy to see you again. Missed you. Keep us updated.
Mike, you are a good and courageous man, I wish you a speedy full recovery.
Horrifically bad luck, so glad you're recovering!

Just nice to see you again Mike, been watching all your old videos again
God bless you Mike and his healing power will pull you through this. I really enjoy your videos and you're in my prayers.
I am so happy to hear that you survived these terrible injuries. I missed your videos and I hope you recover completely soon.
I am very sorry this happened to you.😢 I am glad to see you back on you tube to tell your story. Best of luck to you.
Wooooo! Dang, brother! I feel for you! I am so glad to see you up and around. Just about everything that could go wrong, did. At least you didn't break a hip!
Thank you for the update. Godspeed, but take your time.

Happy you are back and keep getting better!
I was wondering why I haven’t seen you on RUclips. praying for A complete recovery for you.
Oh my god man I hope you have a swift and easy road to recovery because that is horrific! We've missed your videos very much and hope yo see you back soon nut if you do decide to hang up the hat or post periodically we will still check in and check with you
I'm glad that your recovery is moving along, i think that you have the right attitude, one day at a time. It's really good to hear from you!
What an ordeal! It's good to see you again and hope you have a full recovery soon.
Wow, dude. I missed your videos but I'm very glad you're recovering as well as you are! I've known people who've had less injury than this and just spiraled down from there, never really coming back from it. So keep it up, and know we're rooting for you!
Glad to see you’re back Mike!, stay strong, keep pushing forward, God bless you sir.
Glad to hear you're recovering. Hope full recovery ,prayers are with you. Any videos you make are greatly appreciated
Wish you all the best in your recovery. Looking forward to hopefully seeing you in the future making new videos.
I'm really glad you're doing OK, Mike! All the best and welcome back!
