Love what you've done with it. It looks amazing and seems like it's well worth the money. I have a mongoose from Walmart myself and you kinda made me interest in upgrading it as well. I have an unrelated question though. What camera is the this video filmed with? The autofocus is awesome.

    • @NewStuffTV1

Thanks, you'll have a great time working on that bike! The camera is the Sony a6600 with a Sigma 16mm 1.4f lens. All of my gear is listed at the bottom of my video description.

Doing similar build with Schwinn Taff. Ride hard on stock bike, while you are learning upgrades. Then start stocking your bike with the componites you want and need for your style of riding.

Awesome job man! I built a Hyper Hydroform from Walmart after visiting my local bike shop as saw $1700 - $4800 for a full suspension ride 😄😂! Building and working on it i think was more fun than riding it some times!

Plus there's nothing like knowing you were the one that actually built the bike up to where it is today, that's why I would rather buy a cheap bike and upgrade it as opposed to buying an expensive bike with the the parts already on it.

Great video and review! The XR Pro is a diamond in the rough so to speak. I picked one up 3 yrs ago. Did similar mods as you, just not a 1x11 yet. But I learned to wrench on bikes with it and ended up building a GT sensor 26in from a frame I scored on eBay. Enjoy your goose!

Ride on my friend! So glad to find folk with the same philosopy about recreational pursuits, especially cycling. Bike snobbery has harshed cycling since the beginning-of course until the Wright Bros. trumped Giant, Trek and all when they built the Wright Flyer in their shop. Then there is the Gossamer Albatross that crossed the English Channel. Just to put a bit of perspective on the ignorance of snobs. Great video! Helpful and inspiring.

I have an XR-pro that i paid new $299. $550 in upgrades. Its a sturdy frame for a super price. Good video. After a certain point the rider is far more important than the upgrades on the bicycle, and the knowledge gained priceless. I think you have achieved this balance.

I have the first addition XR Pro😂 from 2012 you think you had problems, OMG, 12 years later still a great break, but everything broke quickly out of the box, and the brakes wouldn't even slow the bike down. But about $1,000 later it's all good.

The best mongoose to get these days is the ledge x1/x2 depending on your height. The biggest plus to the x1/x2 is that it comes with a tapered head tube, so you can buy really high end forks if you wanted to.

Awsome job man!!! I did the same thing. Built a bas a$$ 27.5 hybrid dirt jump single speed bike from a GT Aggressor Pro small frame and I absolutely love it and now I know every inch of that bike. I know every nut and bolt has been installed correctly and can now trouble shoot anything that happens to go wrong with it.

I did the same thing to my old Ironhorse Warrior 3.1 26" and now it is a serious machine that will take anything I'd throw at her without a hiccup . I used the same Rockshox fork , rear DNM shock , Shimano MT200 brakeset but I used a 1x10 M6000 Deore drivetrain , the botton bracket ( IXF ) and a Meijun double wall wheel set . I recommend you to upgrade to 180 mm rotors . I love your upgrade , well done , brother . Well done .

Thanks for your review. The reasoning behind your upgrade, and other videos I watched online, helped me decide to purchase an XR pro. Not disappointed at all. Came from another full squish steel walmart bike that could not be upgraded( 1 inch threaded steerer tubes and 26 inch wheels are a bummer).
Was considering a diamondback for 2k but still didn't have dropper post or quality suspension.
Am considering buying pedal assist electric kit. Will still be under a 1600 price budget.
    Again, thx for the review.

I have the same mindset that you have. I much prefer to buy a lower end bike and just upgrade it. I bought a $500 GT Aggressor Pro last year and I've upgraded every single part except for the rims. I've put about $1500 into it and tbh the parts aren't even the best parts, for example i upgraded the mechanical disc brakes to some budget Zoom hydraulic disc brakes that cost $67.00 for the front and rear together, then I upgraded those to Shimano MT200s, and I plan on upgrading those to Shimano Deore M6100s probably in a few weeks. It's a never ending upgrading cycle but I love it. Probably the only thing I really splurged on was buying a $100 RaceFace Atlas Stem, which I'm using a $30 handlebar with lol.

      @jeffcornell8061 3 года назад

@@Willsayittoyourface I used 52 watt dolphin battery in frame you need to use too large radiator clamps to hold the battery in place and one smaller one around the lower frame by the shock on that lower frame to keep the battery from sliding down into the shock it works great keeps the weight low for good handling on the front lower where the bracket slides in just take a pair of pliers and clip the front lower off so the battery stays flush on the lower frame it's a tight fit but it clears everything good luck have fun

I don't know if Decathlon exists in the US, if there isn't, it's basically Dick's Sporting Goods and like they have a bike brand named Rockrider and they have quite a bad reputation for their cheap bikes, but I saw that they have high end mountain bikes starting from 1k€ and a full suspension down country mtb for 1.4k€, and I bought it and tbh I love it, I only need to put gripper tires and clipless pedals and that's it, so big box bikes doesn't always mean bad bikes

Love what you did. She's looking pretty fly. I love my XR-Pro which I purchased new back in 2018 for a cool $400 but I can hang with all the "Real" bikes like the Trek's and Giant's out on the trails at a fraction of the cost! I'm at $750 with mine. I still need to upgrade the brakes, derailer, cassette, tires and add a dropper post.

I paid $400 for that bike 4 years ago. Got out of riding but I wanna get back into it. I'm gonna upgrade mine and get back at it. I feel bad because I left it outside. Didn't have a place to put it. I do now, though.
