my initial reasons for getting the lens was to be my "just in case i need reach" lens to give me more telephoto than my main workhorse, the 56mm 1.2. Reggie Ballesteros Thanks for the detailed response! I also found that the 90mm produces a creamier background due to compression but this is subjective, don't you agree?
tristan carlos it would be hard to say. For products for sure the 90mm can focus closer which gives more compression and better bokeh. But at equivalent filling of the frame for a portrait, I think the bokeh is different but each has their own pros and cons. Would be an interesting test
How does the 90 mm compare to the 50-140 when shooting sports ? Is croping with the 90 mm when necessary enough ? The f2 aperture and lighter weight of the 90 mm is appealing and the overall image quality probably better than the zoom. But you can't unzoom, or zoom in when necessary.

Without spending $1K on a Fuji lens, can the X-T3 match the AF (CAF) of the D500, specifically for kids’ sports?
I was wondering what the approximate distance you are from the subject the get these shots? I'm contemplating between the 90mm and the 50-140mm zoom for the flexibility. But the 50-140 is just too darn big and heavy, and too expensive for the very little use. I do want the fast aperture as I expect to shoot indoors half the time. Sorry, but these images are not sharp. This is not a great advert for the XT-3 I use Nikon D4S for sports and the images are pin sharp.
Pony Moore thanks for the comment. Keep shooting with your d4s buddy!
@@Reggiebphoto thanks Reggie, perhaps try a different focus setting, or, as you are on moving boat you may need a faster shutter speed, 1/1000 + Happy snapping and Christmas
