    Love this video Reggie! I almost shoot the same way you do with my 70-300 for surf photography.
    Currently have the Tamron 17-70 along with the 70-300 and will definitely add the 33 1.4 to the kit at some point. I'm really tempted to get the 90 to be the low light sports and portrait lens. However, i feel the sensible option would be the 50-140 cause I'll be photographing a few different sports professionally (and will possibly be a 2nd shooter at weddings) in 2024, so versatility will be useful.
    What are your thoughts mate? I'm also going to try your "Reggie Chrome" recipe cause I always use Classic Chrome for photos and I really liked the look of the images from your other video.

    So I'm shooting a polar plunge event where hundreds of people are running towards the water and me, lol. DO you feel the Xt3 would be up for this challenge? • @Reggiebphoto
      @Reggiebphoto  5 лет назад

      Lance J. Reha the 300mbs is not necessary unless you peak the buffer all the time. As far as the focus being up to the challenged, the xt3 af speed is not yet to the level of the d500 or d4. Not even close. Does the situation need that level of af? I’m not experienced enough to answer that question as I’ve never photographed an event like that before

    • @Lakefilms

    • @Reggiebphoto

      my initial reasons for getting the lens was to be my "just in case i need reach" lens to give me more telephoto than my main workhorse, the 56mm 1.2. But I noticed that during bright outdoor wedding ceremonies, I actually use it over the 56mm 1.2 for documentary work as sometimes i have to stop down the 56 anyways due to the bright conditions, but the 90mm f2 has faster af. i personally don't use zooms at all, but perhaps it's a stubborn preference of mine.

    • @ShutterKnack
      @ShutterKnack 5 лет назад +1

      Reggie Ballesteros Thanks for the detailed response! I also found that the 90mm produces a creamier background due to compression but this is subjective, don't you agree?

    • @Reggiebphoto
      @Reggiebphoto  5 лет назад +1

      tristan carlos it would be hard to say. For products for sure the 90mm can focus closer which gives more compression and better bokeh. But at equivalent filling of the frame for a portrait, I think the bokeh is different but each has their own pros and cons. Would be an interesting test

    How does the 90 mm compare to the 50-140 when shooting sports ? Is croping with the 90 mm when necessary enough ? The f2 aperture and lighter weight of the 90 mm is appealing and the overall image quality probably better than the zoom. But you can't unzoom, or zoom in when necessary.

    I recently ‘left’ Fuji (kept my X-E2) and sold my X-T2 because I wasn’t happy with CAF from the X-T2. I picked up a D500 and a decent AF-P lens. Super fast AF and lots of keepers with that combo. .. but the more I shoot with my X-E2 the more I want to shoot Fuji all the time. You know where I a going with this. hey Reggie, thanks for a cool video. How do you find the AF of the X-T3 for these kind of shots? what's the % of keeper shots in your opinion. I currently only own a 16mm1.4 and a 56mm1.2 so i cannot test the capabilities of the X-T3 in that department. I tried shooting school volleyball game once with the 56mm1.2 but there were barely any shots in focus unfortunatelly (with the zone 3x3squares in AF-C), but i'm not really surprised (i know the 56mm1.2 is very slow).

    • @Reggiebphoto
      @Reggiebphoto  5 лет назад +1

      for this specific shoot, the keeper rate was pretty high. I don't know the exact number but i was more choosing peak moments, rather than weeding out out of focus shots (if that makes sense). i have noticed that sometimes the single point af-c works better in darker areas - indoor sports, weddings, etc. for indoors i try to get the af point/zone to be the size of a persons head. for outdoor stuff, like this wakeboarding shoot, i believe the box was about the size of the wakeboarder but i had some distance from him so the dof was actually pretty deep.

The 90 is appropriate for relatively wide shots of say the batter hitting the ball with the pitcher blurry in the distance on the other side of the frame... Tip for action/sport with AF-C, don't shoot with the 35mm f1.4, even with the XT3

    Funny that he admits that the reason why he doesn’t use an ND filter to take benefit of the lower ISOs is because he doesn’t bring one to any of this still photo shootings. That’s a circular reason right there :)
