My dear respected Honourable. Abdul Mu'meen. I am very impressed with your understanding of the Four Bills as read extensively by your Honourable, Sir. As rightly said, the North stand to gain more of the Bills if passed into Law in the nearest future. The North needs to reexamine the Bills critically and positively to see the advantages of the Bills, rather than outrageously obsessed with the disadvantages. Nigeria needs revenue to bring about socio-economic development of all types to the table without any sentiment whatsoever.
To lead Nigeria is extremely difficult because most Nigerians are driven by sentiments not facts. That is why we always believe only our opinion is always right. We rarely listen to other people's point of view to learn from them. Our views are usually guided by primordial instinct. Our positions are usually taken along the lines of Religion, Politics and Tribe, not facts. We also distrust other people that don't share our points of view. Intelligent people think objectively, not primordially.
With all due respect, Sir. The Four (4) Bills are premised on revenue collection, management, distribution and redistribution for the betterment of all types of socio-economic development of Nigeria. For the Distinguished Senator. Ali Ndume argument is primarily based on his frustration, ustracisation and being stepped down by the 10th Senate for his deliberately not to read the Four (4) Bills. I am equally of the opinion that most governors of the northern axis didn't read the Bills either. Governance is about nurturing positive thinking and creative perception that will propel good governance perspective.
Abdul mumini is wrong by saying that the poor is excluded from the negative impact of proposed VAT increase. Every Vatable items are being consumed by the poor as well, in that case, the poor also bear the brunt.
Hon. Jubrin seems to be a better defender of the president Tinubu policy than most of his employees ( ministers, SA, PA etc). May be he should be invited into the executive.
This guy is a smart corrupt politician with pure capitalist mindset who doesn’t believe in the pain of the common man but figures that’s why he dodged any questions related to suffering on the land
The Tinubu govt is telling Nigerians to endure the "Temporal" challenging situations or pains, but the issue is that the people in government are living large when the people are in pains
Interesting perspective, but it raises a question: if VAT continues to increase incrementally as proposed in the bill, does that mean we eventually reach 100%? It's a bit amusing logic if you ask me. Our focus should be on creative ways to strengthen the Naira by growing our economic value as a country. VAT doesn’t need a progressive increase. That said, the bill does offer some appealing proposals worth discussing. Maybe it shouldn’t be dismissed outright, but instead, properly debated and negotiated in the interest of the common citizen.
Nicely said Ayodele, nicely said. I read some comments on here and i laugh, because some of them don't understand a thing about taxes, especially on the VAT. Now our country is in a bad shape economically and tax bill or reform that will affect the already poor masses needs more debate and thorough scrutiny before been passed into law. Bro we need to fix our country to a working state before we start imposing more taxes that affects the poor more than it affects the rich.
The Question is, "Why is it so difficult to prosecute and recover all stolen subsidy funds?" Why should the average citizen be the ones bearing the brunt? Until there exist consequences for all these atrocities, the cabals, bad politicians and corrupt civil servants will continue to navigate around all these measures.
If you are leading over 230,000,000 Nigerians, you need to weigh every and any decision before you take it. It shows some leaders are not seasoned enough to take decisions.
Taxing the poor masses of an unproductive nation is a "no-go area" for now. I stand with the North on this issue. Honorable Jubrin Kofa is talking "in the gibberish".
Nigeria cannot work, let every region should govern themselves,we are not one, if another government comes in, all this plan we end, change come with pain which we are not ready for because of who we are. We travel out and wish Nigeria to be like UAE or Europe, but is not by over night miracle.
This is a waste of taxpayers' money's. Nigeria has no influence in the Middle East. Tinubu should stay home to deal with economic situations in the country.
The problem with Nigeria is that there is no think tank loyal to the motherland. Either they are stubborn like Buhari or like the wavering Tinubu. They follow the advice of the IMF and the World Bank, but when you follow their advice, they will publicize Nigeria's new crisis next month to offset the federal government's multi-billion dollar efforts. A large number of scholars who sing the pessimism of the economy attack the government's credibility with shocking curses and work hard for Wall Street to short Nigeria's assets. This is the situation of Wall Street debtors. Only by re-establishing federal credibility and getting rid of Wall Street debts as soon as possible can Nigeria return to the top of Africa, and the value of the Naira may return to three years ago, or even earlier.
Jubril's analysis of the subsidy removal is wrong. Nobody underestimated the impact of subsidy removal. The problem still remains that our election campaigns are not issue-based. Our economy is driven by petrol-dollar, and there is no way any tweak of the indices of our mainstay will not result in hardship. Nigeria has no firm production base, and the so-called politicians do not patronise locally made goods. Tinubu was bent on removing petrol subsidy before ameliorating the impact. Atiku and Obi spoke about ameliorating the impact before subsidy removal. Even though they all agreed petrol-subsidy should be removed, how and when are very important, too. The likes of jubril never listened objectively.
Jibrin has one leg on APC and the other on NNPP......Why can't these men be bold enough to call a spade a spade.Tell BAT government that they have destroyed the Nigeria Economy. Period!
This president is traveling too much, he should settle down at home and solve the problems he has created in this country. His policies are bringing hardship and suffering.
Yes, cleaning up the subsidy regime was the hard decision to make and not the total removal that has impoverished the country. Removal was a weak move, it is like outright divorce in a marriage instead of working out issues.
Sowore was able to predict the adverse effects of subsidy removal. Evidence to this exist on arise tv RUclips page. He elucidate on what such policy will cause and why
It's a shame that Northern governors and Emirs gathered for their self-centered purposes. They forgot the innocent children's from their various states in detention in Abuja and other places. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Seun i hope more of the knowledgeable people will show your ignorance on matters of economic development/speculation, and bear palor conspiracy theories...we need more investigation Journalism.
Ndume is ALWAYS against Southern Nigeria…that feeds the North. The final destination is restructuring or complete separation. Nigeria cannot continue like this… The country is bankrupt because of the years of financial mismanagement, because Northern Muslims (Fulanis to be precise) have stolen 80% of the nation’s wealth and due the monthly sharing, amongst ALL the states, of the income generated from the South. God help the nation or it might explode one day.
That bill shouldn't be passed, did the government created an enabling environment for the citizens they're billing? They're alot of other works to be done kidnapping everywhere, bad roads, insecurity, high costs of living, inflation etc tinubu should focus on other aspects of its responsibilities rather than taxing those that are managing in the country
Hon. Abdulmumin has never opposed the incumbent government. He’s always on the side of the powerful and rulers. He’s an errand Tinubu personnel and definitely hired to appease the North. The leaders made their stance and that’s final. If it is passed then it becomes a law if not then it must be reviewed. Concerning the bill, the only contentious clause is that of the derivation funds. But the bill has been bonded as one, the government should separate it so that relevant reforms should go through.
Please mention anywhere this Senator has defended the present government with biased minds before in any national issue. 2. I believe you lack knowledge of how bills work. When a bill is said to go through debate or public hearing, it doesn't make any sense to withdraw the bill. All what you advise your representatives is to bring their issues, plus or minus or any variations to the floor against the bill and express their mind in public hearing before average Nigerians, and it will consider and consolidate before passing the bill into law, withdrawing the bill is just wasting money, the sitting allowance, times, and path to abandon the entire process. The governors are fighting that they wanted to be collecting some of the taxes as old DOUBLE TAXATION on the citizens. 3. How will a reasonable person be fighting over a proposal bill or project. Shame on Senator Ndume on that. He has demonstrated that Northerners and their governors were NOT ready to develop their lands or work on how to generate income but SOLELY depends on National cake from other region.
@ You are alien to the personality of Hon. Abdulmumin, I will save you the headache of research but he has never challenged the status quo if he’s not benefiting. He was silent during PMB’s time, he only fought Gbajabiamila (14th Speaker) on lucrative committees. That being said, always adhere to engage without adhominem attacks by calling people ignorant just because you differ on issues. Yes, the North raised an addendum and highlighted some lacuna especially on tax derivation where Lagos gets 60%. That means, all the billions of airtime that the north purchase from MTN, GLO etc, Lagos will go home with 60%. Likewise bank service charges, beverages, cements, flour etc. Every state buy these commodities. The northern governors are adamant on VAT at the point of consumption not at corporate HQ. Because economic activities are spread across all parts of Nigeria. All the bank customers and telco subscribers are disturbed across the 36 states. Why will one state take 60%, and the rest of the nation 40%?. Can you answer that honestly without impartiality and prejudice?. The bill is a bundle, and accepting one means accepting all of it. The north completely agrees with the new personal income tax, joint revenue board l, Nigerian Revenue Service. So please furnish yourself with facts before you jump in conversations mid way.
@aliyulawal932 Now I know your problem. But what you're missing is that you are sided with a fact that affects your region, NOT the whole interest, if the economy. Let answer your main question here. I am not Lagos State or close to Lagos State, but Lagos State has demonstrated that it has demonstrated an economy hub that made successful independence by giving land and helping international companies as well as big local companies in making their dream comes to light. For example, when Dangote went to the East looking for lands to build his refineries, the region played a tribalistic card, against him, the moved to Ogun State around Water side area, but the former Governor Amosun then played a tribalistic card that because the land that Dangote wanted to use for his refinery was not in his Egba area where the former Governor hails from. Lagos State voluntarily jumped in and promised Dangote lands at any acres he needed and also assisted him in clearing and filling up the water swamp. I said this so that you can know Lagos State uses their brain to make sure all their investors succeed. If your state, my states want to enjoy what Lagos State is enjoying there is NO need to play a card of jelous or hatred against Lagos State rather the states should study how Lagos State got it right and work on that to make their states more attractive to investors. 2. You're looking at Lagos State benefits and using that to stop all other benefits that are coming to the poor or low income masses. My brother, that is what we call selfishness perspective. 4. Above all, every state or citizen has the right to speak up if they feel they are being cheated or marginalized, BUT what we are saying is follow the constitutional way to safe money or time in doing things. The bill is OPEN for PUBLIC HEARING and debate. Not that bill has to be passed into law right away. The best is like what your own concern or Northerners' or any citizen's concerns SHOULD BE brought forward by their representatives in the National Assembly and PUBLIC hearing of the bill, the variations, plus or minus and the concers of EVERY REGION/STATE will be put into consideration before passing the bill into law.. This is democracy. That is the only way that most Nigerians will now know the exact factors in the bill. 5. Amendment of bills is still and crucial in a democracy but for a region, Senator to be saying a bill is dead on arrival by their regional Senators in the national assembly is a wrong. Senator NDUME should know that if the bill did not go for public hearing, the average Nigerians WOULD not understand spices in the bill. SIMPLE. Nobody is saying that the bill should be forced on the Northerners or the whole 36 states when the citizens' representatives did not really debate on it.
@@HassanTaiwo-r7r Thanks for your feedback. You dabbled and dribbled a lot and still didn’t attempt to answer my question regarding the 60% derivation to Lagos. What we want is ultimate localisation of tax and reflection of people’s economic activities. This doesn’t reflect this and is blindsided with huge remittances going to a place where value wasn’t added. We want complete honesty and transparency, all these companies like Telcos, Banks have respective branches in all the 36 states, Dangote has big depots in virtually all states and other commodities. Let all states harmonised their tax and pay the federation its due percentage. If we want to solve it once and for all let us all go that way. Mr Tayo is scared of that model and that’s why he’s running away from decentralisation of tax. You can not be for federalism and independent economic zones and still want one single point collection.
