    He did his job well. As a kid, I hated him but listening to him now I appreciate his character and his stories from his time in the business

      His job was wrestling. He's still cosplaying as the shitty part of Elvis' career while trash talking people who were actually good at wrestling (Bret Hart). I want to like the guy but, this dude oozes bitterness and resentment.

      @similaritiesendhere it's true he wasn't a technical wizard but he didn't have to be. He fit right in with the 80s showbiz environment that was prevalent at that time. He was given an opportunity and he made the most of what tools he did have

      Don't know how much trust to put in his stories but he does cover aspects of the business that goes on behind the scenes that don't normally get talked about like the part about bookers building a roster of wrestlers and they bring with them wherever they go.

      Memphis territory was full of chomos. Ken Wayne is in prison right now for CSC on a 13 year old. Eric Embry said that Lawler might have never smoked a joint or drank a beer but he had some serious issues and skeletons in the closet

    Had the privilege of seeing the Blonde Bombers when they worked for Nick Gulas. I was surprised to see Wayne in WWF as the Honkytonk Man, but what a superstar he became

    I hated Honky as a kid, he was a great heel. I have grown to really dig him from all the shoots I have seen him in.

    Legendary booker and manager Gary Hart strongly disliked Memphis Wrestling, stories like this were part of the reason why.

    The more I hear from Honky, the more I respect him. He appears to have aged best out of all the 80s wrestlers and can remember the stories from back in the day better than anyone. Certainly a clever guy knowing it wasnt going to last forever and getting the $ in while he could👍

    I started watching wrestling after seeing Honky vs. Ricky Steamboat. That match was amazing. Cool stories too. I still wonder about the Rick Rude death cause.

      ​@@MatthewGreensley-ed5hvAs Honky Tonk Man he made plenty money. He wasn't a great athlete. He could sell, knew how to work a crowd, and he could talk trash with the best of them. The Honky Tonk Man gimmick was perfect for a heel. Wayne Ferris made it work.

      I don't think too many people will disagree with that. It's that listening to him talk sometimes, depending on the subject, he comes across as salty af. Like his prime waned right around the time wrestlers started making real money. That Elvis impersonation might have worked with crowds in the 80s, but it wasn't going to carry him through 90's.

    Jerry Lawler and Honky Tonk Man certainly have an off and on relationship as cousins.
    It reminds me of the dysfunctional relationship with the bulldog cousins, Davey Boy and Dynamite Kid.

    I wonder if he was one of the ones that pooped in Lawlers crown when he arrived at the WWF. Story was there were a lot of people upset about Lawlers payoffs in Memphis and Vince had to threaten the locker room to get them to stop.

    Yea i dont see why so many talk so highly of memphis it always seemed like a second rate product compared to rest of territory’s. Booking, production etc. No surprise Lawler and Jarrett ripped everyone off.

    In Jerry's book he wrote that Honky was talking $#!+ online. Jerry called him out on it, and Honky was like "We can work together, and we get some heat on this." And Jerry was like nope. I think it had something to do with 1. Not talking to him first. And 2. Talking about Jerry's mom. I think because their mom's are sisters? 🤷 So my guess on why they don't talk, is because of Honky.

      Not all cousins are close, and him and Jerry have had a lot of issues over the years. I am on good terms with my cousins and even still I barely ever talk to them. Last I heard though they had patched things up and are fine now, but that can change at any time.
