Hey there Big Strappers. Thanks for checking out the upload. How about YOU? What's the scariest thing YOU face as a professional truck driver? Love hearing from you!
You're like the mentor I never had. Thank you for teaching us rookies.
17 year 1.25 million accident free miles here. I always felt the day I got rid of any road rage (around year 3) was the day I became a professional. Knowing that everybody else on the road was somebodies mother father son or daughter and that they may have been having a bad moment or a bad day was no reason for me to act like an ass or take a life. Professionalism starts at a young age when your grandmother tells you to turn the cheek when you are bullied or taken advantage of. Practicing restraint and maturity made me an asset and not a liability.
Good letter, good input! Thank you for writing in!
I died when he said "the 75yo woman slapping the Pastrami on your sandwich is lookin' pretty good to ya" lmao
I'm scared of angry soccer moms too.
We all are! Dave
pumpkincontest I know I'm absolutely scared sh%+less of soccer moms.
yes i have nightmares about them.
get V how do you get VIP in GTA Online for your bunker
i heard and saw a swift truck grind two gears in a row
I always go into deffensive driver mode when I see guys in jacked up pick up trucks. they tend to be the worst drivers on the road.
At least you said "tend" I'll let it slide haha
I'm a veteran truck driver over 30 years coast to coast, border to border and lots of Canada. I'm retired now and really don't miss trucking, but their is some stories I could tell about it, but I won't . I just want to tell all of you truckers out their to keep the greasy side down and watch your six. Be safe out there
You've stayed out to long when your alarm goes off at home and you're puzzled as to what warning alarm is that!
My new fleet manager graduated high school in 2011. I was chewing him out a couple weeks ago, and I asked him if he remembered the line from the movie, "Help me, help you!" After I left the building, I realized that he was only 4 when Jerry Maguire hit theatres. His job security lies in the fact that they would have to pay an experienced fleet manager two or three times what they pay him.
Yeah, scary to see what trucking has become. Kids with computers. Dave
It ALL boils down to the $ .............
((laughing)) you forgot about going down the MOUNTAIN and you start seeing smoke coming from your wheels.
Yes!!! i am a new driver. i went to tech college for my training, the trucks we drove had " student Driver " on all sides. 4 wheeler's would cut us off , stop short ETC ... really opened my eyes. Keep up the good work.
You too! Be careful out there, the road is full of nuts. Dave
Lmao I love that we can hear his wife laughing behind the camera. keep em coming boss
I loved driving a truck but I am so glad to be retired. I did 25 yrs safe driving and count my blessings that I wasn't taken out by a 4 wheeler. Keep it between the ditches and I'll be praying for all truckers.
Love this guy what he speaks is so true. We're a dying bred
One thing more scary than everything you mentioned. Hauling logs in west Virginia in the winter. If that's not enough, then add all 5 of those things.
My Uncle was telling me about the Swift Driver's license fiasco in Tennessee in the late 1990s when the company owned driving school was graduating drivers and the State of Tennessee was granting them CDLs like water. The incident even including the death of a State Driver's Center employee.
Just when you are preparing to hear a calm polite and thoughtful piece of wisdom...some road truth finds it’s way out;))
Great job!!!
Thanks Anton! Dave
Dave ! You are perfect for these informative and humorous vids. Thanks for passing on your knowledge, experience and the funny parts too! Truckin has its antics and laughs along with all the other challenges and obstacles. Good job.
You are a man after my own heart, straight to the point. Be nice to hear more of you about trucking. I once worked in the states driving trucks all over the country back in 1997. I once worked for pullen Bros. They screwed me good.
So funny but so true!!!
TheCraftyTrucker never drove a big rig, but you drivers have all my respect and then some...
Good advice and excellent video
You nailed it. I am lucky on the dispatcher part though. My dispatcher actually drives a truck himself so he knows what he's doing and even gives us heads up on road conditions and such.
In funny and amusing way, Dave always hits the target. Happy New Year !
Thanks! Happy New Year to you. Dave
Now that's Good Stuff !!
Lol, truth. Enjoyed your blog as always. Have a Happy New Year
A Happy New Year to you as well! Dave
thanks Dave, love your videos
Thank you! Dave
Straight up and in your face. You tell it like it is Dave. Thnkx
You've helped me a lot Dave! I appreciate it! I started OTR now I'm doing regional hauling frac sand in the Permian Basin.
hauling frac sand should be a good deal! Enjoy,Dave
Great stuff Dave, you took a serious matter and made informative yet funny. BTW I am going into truck driving because I could not get a job at Walmart, seriously.
I'm thankfully retired after 30 yrs, 1 Million accident free miles, 1 ticket.
Driving was killing my health and my married life.
You're smart to get out Gary, the way things are going these days. Good health and a good marriage is invaluable and not worth losing for any price. And not worth losing for what trucking pays these days for sure! Dave
Of all the trucking channels on utube you're tops as far as I'm concerned. Much knowledge and professionalism.
Thanks, you advertise much needed professionalism to the trucking industry.
Too true, too funny! Great video. Happy New Year and go safe!
You too! Dave
Well said!
As cautionary as this was Dave, it was also hilarious! Thanks!
Thank you!
My company started sending me out in the company truck a F550 flat bed with loads up to 20k (stone slabs) I know it's way smaller but these videos are teaching me a lot. I've always had and respect big riggs on the road and honestly I'm grateful for these videos.
Thanks! Drive safe! Dave
thank you for the information sir that was very informative!
Thank you! Dave
Loved this!
Thanks! Can you tell I get a little bored sometimes? Dave
Loved it!
Thank you! Dave
Funny and true. Thumbs up.
Thanks! Dave
I used to fix cash registers... nothing scarier than angry Truckers who can't pay for fuel at a truck stop because the register is broken.
You nailed it. #1 is STILL #1!
You're a legend Dave 👍
Only in my own mind, and not even then! Dave
You nailed it brother !
You're the MAN...‼️🚛🚒
I really like your very helpful videos... thanks 👍😃
man I like your videos you have a good sense of humor
Thank you sir! Dave
spot on in this video
Truth be told my man!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
hahaha, absolutely right on that one. thumbs up for video.
Darn* good advice :)
ain't that the truth × 100 . great video ,thanks 🇺🇸👊
Pretty funny video, but you do have a good point!!!
Very very true
I love this channel
I agree about dispatchers "Fleet Managers". I am a dispatcher with over 10 years of experience. I drove for over 10 years prior to dispatching. New dispatchers should have a certain amount of road time before telling other drivers where to go so they understand what it is like out on the road.
104 Swift drivers gave this a thumbs down.
I hear ya on that!
if there's one thing I've learned its don't work for Swift, even if you are a great driver there, everybody will still hate you
the GOOPER it's not hate it's all the broken hoods, and accidents in lots, ditches, and stuff. not hate, fear.
+Benjamin Duke true, I didn't think of that
Schnieder * lol
Or CR England.
the GOOPER used to JB Hunt.
I currently run freight and this shit is SO on point!!!
Hahaha this is funny and very true I agree with you and I want to wish you and your family a Mary Christmas and a happy New Year hope you have a good and safe holiday
Same to you Kevin! Thanks! Dave
Hey Dave, cool channel. Thanks for posting videos. Quick question, is it possible to take action so that you're always safe and not stressed as a trucker, regardless of crazies on the road? Thanks.
Very good video I started in trucking in 1969 and man could I tell some stories just like we all can
I had some good times and I bet you did too, Ray. Thanks for writing in! Dave
I have learned so much from you!!! thank you very much. wishing you the best! driver managers ha ha ha
I would say 3 things, the whole interstate is dead still bout time you see and luck sent you a way out,in mountains- ice or black ice- on a step down grade @ night,or any uphill on ice spinning to the top, woundering would you slide black down the hill and survive
I enjoy your videos Brother.
I'm with the others on the Swift thing, not all of the drivers there are horrible lol. I did not get my training there but did go to work with them because they were close to my home, I couldn't stand it because every time I went to a truck stop I knew all eyes were on me lmao.
you are right in every single word so funny man.
Remember what SWIFT stands for
S URE WISHED I'D FINISHED TRAINING right!!
I was in the restaurant of a T/A the other night. In comes two Swift drivers arguing up a storm. A couple minutes go by and one of them pulls out razor. Fortunately there was no place for him to plug it in near by.
Ah Dean, got a laugh out of me there! Thank you!
Dark good advice my frd
Dam good video !!!!
The one thing that grates my nerves is the "Yellow Light", then bums on bikes/e-bikes and all else you mentioned.
Enjoyed your video LOL
Thank you! Dave
I agree with you all the way Dave. Another carrier to watch out for is JB H(c)unt. I know a guy who drives for them. This guy shouldn't even have an operators license let alone a cdl.
Thanks for sharing and be safe out there
You too! Take care. Dave
Roy Wrenn yeah all JB Hunt drivers are terrible it's good way to generalize 7500 people
Happy New Year.
happy New Year to you as well! Dave
I love your RUclips channel!!! And I'm not even a truck driver!!!!
The 75 year old slapping your salami!!! I’m dying!!!😂😂😂
I drive for swift & #5 was still funny af 😂
Amen to that!!!
I was thinkin' that you could write a great, fascinating, informative book, which could be a Best Seller. But after watching this video, I think you also have a promising career out there as a stand-up comedian! Go for it! ~~:-D
Amen Brother.
Holy shit this is so FUNNY 😂 I literally laughed so loud I think I woke the good buddy sleeping in his truck next to me
i love your videos
Thank you! It's more fun than shovelling. Dave
Good points, I was in Daily City Ca around 2003 at about 3am and stopped at a traffic light. Some Mexican gang banger jumped on my passenger running board and smashed the window out with the butt of a knife. He was screaming Spanish/English profanity at me. I noticed another approaching from the driver side so I dropped the clutch and started grabbing gears. The one on my side jumped on and I'll never forget all the tattoos on his face. Tear drop, three dots.. A bunch of scripted text. I hit high range and he bailed but the guy on the passenger side was half in the cab and slashed me a couple times with is knife. Not deep cuts but enough to send me into panic mode. I made a hard left turn not even sure where the street lead. All the while mashing her to the floor and grabbing gears. I think I was around 40mph when he bailed, I couldn't see well in the dark but I'm pretty sure I ran over his foot with the trailer as he rolled and tumbled... Not sure? I stay intra state now and I pack.
And it's stories like that, that you realize they're not paying you nearly enough to deliver your load in an area like that! Dave
Okay I agreed with the first one, about the four wheelers. I lovingly call them locusts, because all they do is swarm around you.
Other than that, I was thinking of things like, losing your brakes going downhill, black ice , Etc, you really took me off guard with your list!, especially about the love at the sandwich shop. LOL😂😂😂
I quit driving a year ago. I'll be a certified welder in a couple months. Never looking back.
Good move! Dave
I said that too, 5 years ago. Now it's on my mind ALOT.
Timothy S Fitzgerald what’s on your mind? Leaving? Getting back into it? Welding?
I noticed this was published on Dec 31. After the thought of the 75 year old lady I think Oct 31 may have been the perfect day! Timing is everything!
Well-Said, Dave! I'm particularly subject to the part about Subway. I drive a regional route for a food distributor in California that supplies Subway, and every week my customers always set me up with whatever I want. Couple of times when I was single instead of a sandwich I did take one of the cute Humboldt State girls back to the motel with me haha. Anywho, thanks for the vids sir, catch you later on down the trail
Couldn't of been said any better!
Im watching this after ordering a footlong from Subway
Awesome video bud. You're not from Canada or anything are you?
So true lol I've been out here hauling aggrates for 43 years 80000 gross every load. I get a kick out of Swift drivers comming around tailgating the car or truck in front of him hauling a load of pillows with every electronic gadget he can fit on his head lol
LOL!
Lol yeah all them idiots got those bluetooth devices. Those are the worst.
R E it's almost impossible for a Swift Driver to tailgate all these big companies have bedix systems in their trucks
Hey dave, I like your channel, very informative. Im still new at this, 2 years in. Never any accidents, im very careful. Yes soccer moms and fast and furious ones scare me the most, plus crotch rockets. There sucide crazy. I've seen some really crazy stuff happen since I been trucking, both from truckers and 4 wheelers. Just wanted to say hi and thank you for shareing your knowledge you have been a help to me. Oh yeah, dispatchers, I have had exactly what you described. Some fresh out of h.s. kid living with mom thinking he knew what he was doing. Yes very bad things happened to me because of his dumb ass. So you hit the nail on the head with this.
Thanks Jason, drive safe! Dave
I'm a truck driver for a major U.S. hauling company and I love watching your videos because I don't have a problem sitting at the feet of much more experienced drivers to take in some of their wisdom. One major question I have is, how do you deal with numb skull 4 wheelers and maintain your sanity on a daily basis? I see stupid moves everyday and wonder how do the salty dogs handle morons on the road. Please help! Best of wishes for you and yours!!
Man, good question and one of drivings biggest challenges. I almost always ran west and part of that was to avoid that eastern seaboard traffic. The more 4 wheelers the more stress. I ran long because I couldn't deal with fighting traffic on a daily basis. These days, where it seems you're in idiot traffic every day all you can do is drive slow, putter along and hope one of them doesn't hit you. The traffic and idiot 4 wheelers were one of the big reasons I chose to retire. Dave
That is very accurate .... lol Billy Big Rigger lol
LMAO at Swift. Around my area it's also McLeod you need to look out for .
The subway sandwiches! You can hear the camera guy trying to hold his laughter! Hahaha
We need you to open your own company, I'd drive for you in a heart beat. I started in this business in 1973,every thing you say is absolutely true.I am 64 and retiring in November, I feel for the honest hard working drivers just trying to make a living in this industry. You are right in saying that the industry has to collapse and be rebuilt in order for it to be fair to every one.
Mel, if you were trucking in the 70's you were lucky enough to see trucking at its best! I was there too. The reefer guys running the coast had beautiful rides everyone was making good money, the fuel was cheap and freight was plentiful. I'd love to see it come back to that again! Dave
Smart-Trucking.com yes that is when we were supplied with clean Lennon , paid a predeium for our meals when we were stuck some place we went on the clock I think it was 8 on and 8 off. But back then you could make a good living driving until deregulation came in killed the industry I was with alltrans express when that happened, and the company started to try to gut the line contract which ended with them going out of business because we would not
back down, in the end it didn't help any
Hilarious video.
Thank you!
You're welcome. I'm from Stockton, California. Birthplace of the CAT company and also where the first full size Peterbilt was sold. Stockton, California has is place in trucking history.
LMFAOOOO awesome... love ya bro
