At 4:38 there is a white mark on the large earth lead. From experience working on electric Mechanical handling equipment ,when a high current cable gets lose you can get an arch or a build up of corrosion (a white flaring). If this was your case it could cause no start and erratic charge symptoms. Obviously after fitting your new unit every thing would be ok.
Just a suggestion i would be tpted to run an extra earth from the battery t o the reg. But thanks for showing the electrical connections and how they un plug. Great video. Thanks for posting. Very good.
We thought ye'd bought a Honda!. Organising a stoning we were. I was having trouble with my battery discharging, cured it with an isolation switch fitted on the battery earth terminal. There was problems with the reg/rec,the diodes were letting the charge flow back into the alternator, eventually this will damage the stator. I can leave the bike for weeks with no issues. Glad to have ye back.
Noticed the welding on your frame is a lot nicer than 2 Himalayan bikes I looked at my local FL, USA dealer. The welding looked very crude, uneven and spotty even. 3 hoses were also out of their clamps on 1 of the bikes, not a big deal but still….
Don’t force the red connector from the regulator-rectifier to the stator connector it might break. It pops in and locks when you push in the red connecting sleeve. Took me a while and extensive you tube research to figure how to reconnect it. But once you push the red sleeve in, it goes in quickly.
my rr failed and it cooked the coil and at the same time my fuel pump was failing wot a fcn headache trying to diagnose the problem on my 2019 17kmls Himalayan, just fitted the pump today it took only five days from india wow!
So far so good on the 2022 that I own, but thanks for making videos like these so we can throw these in our back pockets should it happen. Great video sir, have a good one - Shane
Welcome back !!! Thought ye where a gonner 😮😮 😁 Look forward to your trip and hopefully some great footage as usual. Brilliant to see you again .👍👍 That regulator was well battered and weathered !!!
Good stuff. Thanks! Was wondering if you think it's possible to bump start the Himalayan if the battery dies? I had the clutch cable fail yesterday on my Himalayan near Death Valley CA. Didn't have a spare but we managed to get back to LA with a spare bolt, washer and a couple zip ties thank God. That was my fault I guess, since I haven't changed it in 6800 miles. I wonder how reliable this bike is really.
Welcome back, you only look a year older. Got to Portugal and back last June, then to France in September. Broke down second day. A comedy of errors you wouldn't believe. After a no fix at RE Caen, it was shipped back to RE Ecosse in Aberdeen after two months. Badly damaged in transit. Wait for parts. Fixed but not fixed twice, then, finally the injector shown faulty .More wait for parts. Nine months without bike. Goes better now than it ever did, been an intermittent fault from new. It's getting difficult to mount with my old body so trading it in for a Honda SH350i scooter. Setting off for Portugal after the 600 mile first service. Hope to see you on the road, if you speak to scooterists. Go well.
Wow that sounds like a real adventure right enough geez. At least you get it sorted in the end. Nothing wrong with a scooter mate if it keeps you on two wheels IV had a few maself
Pleased you are back and ok. Thanks for the video, always informative and very useful as our bikes age and rack up the mileage! Safe travels around europe
Thanks Richard. I'm just planning a Euro trip at the minute so more videos about that to come. iv also started converting a Luton van. it will be a full converted off grid camper with a small garage that will carry the motorbike so I will also do a video series about that on the channel.
Like you said, a long time. I thought you had big problems. Good to see you back fella. I look forward to the Euro trip. I really like your video style and content. How long will you keep the Himalayan? Atb
Thanks mate I have no plans to replace the Himalayan yet done 22k miles but who knows maybe someday soon I will want something with a little more grunt and a little less spanner time but for now I'm happy with it.
Wb! Just got my Himalayan. Trying to decide on side panniers. (Lomo large look good but not sure they fit the orig rack). Got a 50l roll bag but thats pretty much full. (It works but getting your leg over n I'd rather use side and in center just a few things) There's a bagtecs option comes with its own rack I think..
@@WeeJaunt Gonna try just using a 50l roll bag and a 30l backpack. Got quoted £600 for the side boxes!!! Your option looks pretty good. Will see how it goes, maybe watch that vid of yours again. Being able to unclip and lock pretty handy! (How they do in the wet?)
@@MauriceTarantulas bone dry mate the only thing I would say is they are starting to sag a little bit on the top corners if loaded really heavy no damage tho. IV got a cpl of straps so I'm going to have a play around see if I can sort it out probably show that on an upcoming video
@@WeeJaunt Think with a 30l oxford backpack (roll top) + 50l roll bag should be fine if can just take tent, pillow, sleeping bag etc on my back. Few clothes etc n poles on the rear seat😉 P.s Jeans were soaked through n got ass ache few hrs in so had to stop a few times. And need to sort this plus damp ground sheet.
Mate, how did you diagnose that it was the rectifier that had gone bad? Could have been the alternator or the wiring? Curious because I'm facing a similar issue. Struggling to diagnose the problem.
Glad to see your return to the channel. I missed both your mechanical fixes/upgrades and your historical tours. Please let’s us know if you are going to reinstall all of your removed accessories. I noticed that your foot peg was missing a chunk, the KTM 390 Adventure peg are a perfect fit as a replacement. Take care,
my question would be do you have any of these accessory coming from a relay that cuts off when bike isnt running ? your standing draw will keep pulling down the batterys voltage over time and you will keep over working your charging system and have to keep replacing parts .. hope you have considered this..
Missed your wee jaunts mate, great to see you back
Thanks mate it's great to be back

aye same on the Himmy I was getting weird readings on the reg-rec with the voltmeter. looked like backflow I'm keen to have a look at the stator

If got a 40 ltr lomo top bag the stuff does the job as well as the big names at a fraction of the cost
