- We're making moonshine mash with Jesse, the master distiller behind @StillIt . A lot of people think they're making "real" mash with cracked corn, which is feed corn that has been lightly milled. But if it isn't done right, then it isn't real corn whiskey moonshine mash.

Had a blast making this with you team. Look forward to doing more in the future!
Your channel is awesome mate! Cheers!
I also blasted all over the wall watching this video😘
Makin shine is 100% legal for anyone, anywhere with a basement and the ability to keep their mouth shut.
Sounds like you should’ve hit up your local malt house for that really nice malted corn
How about soaking the corn in hot water then mill it so it's not so hard on the mill then add your enzymes and yeast
You guys are more than welcome to come to Serbia and do some real fruit distillation. 😮Rakija. Waiting for you
How Much Power does the Pot Use
You add the amylase while the corn is boiling!?
I add high temp amylase once she starts breaking down at 190⁰. The regular amylase works at 155⁰ along with malted grains
Just subscribe to you I love that channel I make it myself But does it taste better if you make enough of it and put it in a wood Keg
If you have animals you need to feed it to the animals they won't hurt them I do it all
So complicated
That moment when you stare into each others beards, magic.
Great video and recipe. If it was not for Still It and Clawhammer, I would probably not still and brew as a major hobby 😎🍹🍻
Hearing that makes me happy
Same. Now all my chicken corn becomes bourbon first.
@@festerallday that's awesome, I am also using wheat thats meant to feed the cows for whiskey - great price and high quality
Where is Kyle?
Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. Do your own damn research.
So much wrong in these comments. It is federally illegal to distill in the U.S. without special licensing, etc. Many states that go with that also make it illegal to even own a still.
It is legal to distill for personal use in Alaska, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Missouri (when I checked last night, anyway). Those states' laws do, in fact, supercede federal law within their borders, as this is literally the main point of having separate, sovereign states. Look into the DEA going after California dispensaries. Even Obama made this point about federal agencies not respecting states' rights.
They're most likely just covering their bases saying "100% illegal" because RUclips.
Your assumption that U.S. citizens cannot make (flavored) fuel is wrong. One can have up to 500 U.S. gallons of (flavored) fuel on hand as our president Reagan sighed into law some years ago.
Get caught with equipment to make it, you're going up on Federal charges.
July 11 (Reuters) - A federal judge in Texas has ruled that a 156-year-old ban on at-home distilling is unconstitutional, siding with a group that advocates for legalizing the ability of people to produce spirits like whiskey and bourbon for their personal consumption.
U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman, an appointee of Republican former President Donald Trump in Fort Worth, on Wednesday agreed with, opens new tab the Hobby Distillers Association's lawyers that the longstanding ban exceeded Congress's taxing power and ran afoul of the U.S. Constitution's Commerce Clause.
I do the pour over method. I buy cracked corn. 25 lbs 25 lbs brown sugar, amylase, daddy yeast. Heat water to 170, pour into the can and cook for an hour. Then amylase at 130, sugars and stir. Then at 90 add yeast. Takes 7 days or so. Then distill 8 gal in a 10 gallon still. I get 120-150 proof and about 2.5-3 gallons of shine.
Is this the actual complete method?! Dude plz tell me so🙏😭🙏
Can you please give me ratios used🙏😭🙏
Can you please detail more bc I'm going to have to buy
Alpha Amylase temp is too low. 155 is sweet spot for Alpha Amylase.
@@mcwtaymablane 1/1 ratio of corn to water. Same with sugar.
back in england these men share a great great great great grandfather
They've already put three men on the moon, they're liable to put more.
My grandfather malted with corn also. I grew up hearing stories of my 10 yo father carrying jugs of moonshine whiskey. They did it because corn was a nickel a bushel or something but whisky was a dollar a jug. They were afraid to use sugar because you had to buy lots of it but they used it to make rye whiskey not corn liquor.
I make it on my back patio in the middle of my home town. It’s sold before I even start the mash. And it’s illegal as hell. Brewing wine and beer it’s all good.
Kentucky gives you 👎👎
If you would sprout all that grain you wouldn't have to do most of those steps.
i know big whiskey doesn't want it, but can we legalize stilling?!?
Wait I don't get why you wouldn't just soak it? so you can mash it up
Couldn't you just soak it and put it in a blender instead of milling?
Cut corn is easier to deal with. And it's usually best to do a protein rest, @125f, when dealing with the high protein feed corn
Why did they bother with a strainer? They strained it, then just dumped everything into another pot. Moonshine logic?
You really need to do this with some of the heritage corn varieties. Bloody Butcher corn is a great choice.
Hunter's probably use old mash feeding animals... If have any buddies. Deer probably love it.

I wanna make moonshine but I can't grow a beard.
Please post your source saying distilling spirits is not in violation of federal law. I'll wait.
I would remash that corn add a little sugar and double up and catch up
Why not jusy cornmeal? I heard that was popcorns secret
I used to make it with cracked corn but it turns out the best place on my property for my Hillbilly still is right next to my neighbors corn field so not cracked corn not so much now.
Home distilling is legal in one state in the USA, Missouri.
Here in North Carolina it is illegal to manufacture "spiritous liquor" including moonshine without a license. Additionally selling or possessing liquor without paying the 30% excise tax will also get you nailed. In spite of that "bootlegging" remains popular here in my state and is in fact how NASCAR got its start. (Long story short)
Interestingly, the permit for a distillary here is only $300 which can pay for itself with a decent run of legal liquor. Just remember the revenuer's cut...
The main problem with North Carolina is that it is an ABC state. Meaning that the state holds a monopoly on Liquor sales and distribution. If I want a bottle of my favorite rye, I have to go to an "ABC" (alcoholic beverage control commission) store and pay what ever the hell the state wants me to pay for it (usually considerably more than non ABC states). That's pretty much why they don't want a lot of independent distillers. Why pay $50 for a quart of shine when my neighbors friends cousin's brother-in-law will secretly sell me one for $25.
Sounds like a typical government wanting a monopoly so they can price gouge. Remember the sound rich men north of Richmond. What most don’t talk about is the central bank or federalreserve is privately owned paying a 6%dividend. But then pays a 90% franchise tax and funds the government.
What boggles my mind is if government wanted to increase revenues why wouldn’t they change their mindset? Urge or motivate production and tax it. Like it’s illegal to dredge rivers for gold in California or illegal to setup permanent sluices that could be checked. It’s like that one thing could bring in a decent amount of money. Or eastern states could urge recover of ship wrecks. The issue there is the federal government made many areas monuments or some bs so you can’t recover history and make money. The government is basically saying we’d rather let history be destroyed than see some company benefit and also pay us taxes.
I remember being in philosophy in college talking about sin taxes. This was in 2014 I think. I asked well why don’t they legalize gay marriage and just do a sin tax on it. The teacher was like sin taxes are to dissuade people from doing those actions and I was like yep. Haha.
Then in 2015 gay marriage was legal and I was like what. It’s like bigamy and polygamy and polyamory is still illegal. Basically the billionaires and those in Cali got gay marriage legal but they didn’t want to push for equal rights for other forms of marriage. Basically they should have just pushed for civil unions between consenting adults and the government for contract law and tax purposes
Make your own yeast like the hillbillies did. Spread whole corn kernels out on burlap bags keep moist allowing it to sprout, once sprouted dry it and grind it.. Now you have active yeast
Jimmy made a living out of cracking corn. And he did not care at all about what became of it!
Why are you selling such a whack mill then? That is 100% you admitting you make and sell an inferior product.
Fun to watch, but I"m still lost why you had to do it in TWO different batches in two different Clawhammer systems?
Couldn't you have just started the corn in the 20Gal pot? It seemed you poured everything from the 10gal into the 20 gal...and then started from there with the other grains?
Wonder what goes into just getting a distilling license.
I could just Google it, but instead Ive turned to a YT comment section.
I love using sweet corn.. makes best moonshine ever tasted
Just like you can make your own firearm for your own use you can make your own booze God I love America 🇺🇸
Sure would've been easier with a bag of malted corn from Riverbend ;)
I wonder if a coffee bean grinder would be a good alternative to a mill
Wow. Never heard of making shine being legal. Only legal to make beer and wine. That is why people say don't tell and don't sell.
Ah yes...now I know how to make hooch with chicken ration.
Jessie the humble tourist! 😂! He's definitely expert level!
Ive had moonshine, legal and illegal. Both taste like paint thinner.
Love both of these channels! Great entertainment and very informative
Flaked corn costs like x5 in Australia :(
what about soaking the corn first, and grinding it?
Came here from StillIt's channel. Good vid.
Amazing collab!! ❤
Can you use a blender to mill the corn?
Grian whiskey truly is more work than its worth lol just buy a few bags of frozen fruit, mush it up in boiling hot water, let cool, add peptic enzymes then let cool some more, add yeast and wait for 5 to 7 days lol no need to make a slop for 2 hours and clean for 2 hrs... the way i do it the cooling process takes the longest... stirring grain for 90 mins is for the birds and just makes liquor everyone talks about but nobody truly wants lol not a high demand on "cheap grain liquor" lol
Distilling less than 20 gallons does not require any federal permits making it legal according to chagpt4
why not just use corn meal? Some companies make it without the preservatives.
I wonder where moonshine got its name from
Something that people don't realize is that you don't have to brew a mash. You can distill commercially made beer and wine. Whether it's economically feasible or not is something to research.
Man I wish I would have bought a CHS system. You should give discounts for people to trade in competitor systems .... LOL
A "friend" told me... they fill a large blender 1/3rd with cracked corn... then tip it to a 45 degree and it throws the corn around breaking it down but not making flour.
I use my BLENDER! 3 scoops on high 30 seconds turns it into cornmeal. Shake it well.
You N dizfill all you wanf od you hVe a federal biofuel license. But fhe secongyou put it in s glsss instead of s gas tank, youd better call Saul
Ohh Ross, we miss you a lot man..😀
When making all corn do we need any nutrient with the yeast? Not using any sugar. 2 tablespoons of distillers yeast . 5 gal. Batch.
First thing i thought of when i saw the headline was that old song: “jimmy crack corn and I don’t care.”
Moonshine is untaxed spirit, that’s it. Call it what you want
Every time you buy ingredients you definitely being taxed .
I’ve always wanted to ask this question. In the song “Jimmy cracks corn” and no one cares. Then why is there a song about it?
Home distilling is NOT ILLEGAL in the United States 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It is?
Quick search told me it’s illegal
@@ChronicallyAmerican it's totally legal to make it in many states inside of the United States. I can make more than I'll ever drink. I can't sell it. They will lock me up if I sell it.
@@kevinroberts781 Mane look it up, its illegal lol
Illegal federally, legal in some states on the state level. If the ATF catches you, you're fucked. Your local deputy? You should mostly be fine, assuming its not mass production.
buy a commercial meat grinder maybe $300 save yourself a ton of time grinding corn and you can make sausage with it . grind burger cheese nuts anything . imagine adding shine to your sausage for flavor or sell it as a specialty item
The guy below speaketh the truth with a caveat. I believe that we’re limited to 20 gallons for personal consumption
Colab videos I’m stoked. Love you guys.
🤔 they sell corn that is already cracked , wouldn't that be a lot simpler, quicker and cost effective?
Did Jimmy crack that corn?
I don't care!
I'm curious why it's necessary to mill the corn, since it's so hard to do? Why not just simmer it for a long time as ppl do with preparing dry beans for food, then blend it, maybe with a hand held blender once it's soft?
And btw, when I volunteered at a county park that was an old farm, they had a corn grinder powered by a large electric motor for grinding field corn into hog feed. It ground it pretty fine.
Jimmy cracked corn and I don’t care is about jimmy makin moon shine!?!?!? 🤯
Is this where the “jimmy cracked corn” song came from?
How measures uses
It seems I need to grow a long beard before I can master this moonshine..
Guy said all he eats is starch. Metabolic syndrome is the leader in early death. His fatty liver tells me he has at least one symptom of metabolic syndrome.
you can get permits in illinois and its fine up to 200 gallons i think in missouri
It is legal to distill in the US to make "ethanol fuel"..... Take that as you will.
Thought I was watching ZZ top or the Hobbit for a minute there bro
Its not illegal to distill your own in all states. In my state, you can make and distill moonshine. But you are limited to 100 gallons annually per each household, and it is for personal use only. It cannot be sold. That would lead to arrest. Also, someone 21 or older has to live on the property and it must be their permanent residence. There is also a permit requirement. Private citizens are required to request a permit from the state before making moonshine. Likely so the state boys can keep an eye on production to a degree. And it probably has something to do with the thing being at odds with Federal law. A permit would nullify that maybe? I don't know. I just know what I read in the State code.
Not according to this link.... www.ttb.gov/distilled-spirits/penalties-for-illegal-distilling#:~:text=While%20individuals%20of%20legal%20drinking,26%20United%20States%20Code%20(U.S.C.)
The best corn grinder I found is a buffed coffee grinder. Model 750 crusher for corn.
Home distilling is legal in Alaska, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Rhode Island. Other states like California offer Non-Retail licenses.
Pretty much everything is illegal in California.
Apparently looking up foreign laws in New Zealand is also illegal 😂
Real moonshiners use whole corn,,,no cracking neccasary, your making it harder than it has to be,come to tennessee hills,we'll show ya how its made😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Are you boiling the corn whole and then mashing ? , Then adding malted barley and oats and rye ?.
Nice!
Did you ever try to mash the left over corn from ujssm?
Was the secret ingredient jimmy cracking the corn?
I used flaked corn in a corn flake saison last year. Came out dry but delicious!
It's not 100% legal LMAO. It is legal like u say in a couple states but that's it not legal in tennessee
It is legal if the police aren't around
In the larger one step the malted grains up like beer, more enzymes and better flavor
Ninja blender works great
Is cracked corn less expensive than frozen corn ???
Helo sir can i make rice wine in it
"...all starch diet." Hahahahahaha!
