I don't know what other people think, but I really enjoy your long videos. I may not be able to watch them right when you upload them, but I really like watching them. It's a like a television show without commercials. A television show about music!
Dereck I want to thank you for preaching Love,Anger,Passion,Compassion,One thing I have learned in My 57 Years is all that matters in Life is how we are towards our fellow Human beings,Animals,the Planet. Love and compassion are the two most important things we can share.I hate what our government has and is doing to us and others of this world.Being angry at mans in justice to man is fine but do something about it. Spread love! Share with others. Nobody should have to live one minute without a hand up. If you have two of something give one away.Color,Sexual identity,religion are ways that we are kept apart.Reach out to your fellow man and ask are you hungry?Do you have a place to stay warm, Most of all let others know they are not alone.
Found Dom and you sir are right. A fantastic kaleidoscope of every byte of every sound is played and makes me go, oh this is from 72!! So that's where it came from....
I watched this video a long time ago, and just now managed to listen to "edge of time". It is now one of my favourite albums and I wanted to thank you :)
You should have been a DJ, Dereck. You introduce us to all sorts of great music in your videos, and you're an incredible wealth of information... The only thing that could make it better would be if you got to play some of it for us as well. Regardless, you just added several thing to my wish list. Again.
This post just showed up on.my RUclips suggestions list (9 years later?) anyways, I found the DOM album on TIDAL and I'm downloading it right now. I have to say when it comes to the "spacey" side of Krautrock, my two favorites after Yeti & Tanz Der Lemmminge are the first Ash Ra Temple album and The Cosmic Jokers 1st album.
You have absolutely awesome taste in music. Between 1975 and 1985 we played almost all of that on the radio in Philadelphia. think you would have really enjoyed it. It was so well liked that they had to get rid of us to launch this World Cafe show. but I digress.. I just want you to know: Much Respect. g
dereckvon, you talk from my soul. i believe anything has its universal kind, no matter what style or genre. i listen from electronic to jazz, hip hop to classic, even classic music like arnold schonberg and i always get inspired someways.
Hi Dereck, I´m just catching up on some of your older videos. I really enjoyed this one. That May Blitz LP is absolutely great! Haha, you´re right, I must have shown my copy that time around. I purchased mine sometime in 2011 (that was a great year for me when it comes to vinyl purchases). Take care my friend -Ben
Hello! I've watched a few of your videos and they are excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT! I love your ruminations and analyses of various different musics. I too, have that Music From Two Basses record. Barre Phillips is my favorite improviser bassist ever. I've always pronounced it "Bar", but you may be right in pronouncing it as "Barry." You have now sent me on a wild goose chase to track down that Dom album. Thanks for the inspiration. I will keep watching and hopefully post something of my own.
Great vid as always. Totally agree with you on collecting... buy what moves you and your collection will be as well rounded as it needs to be. I'm definitely going to be looking for "Music From Two Basses". It sounds incredible. Thanks for the recommendation.
@EoLoVoX That's quite all right though, I really would like to know how to match the music with the commentary. Seems the program that goes with the Logitech camera I use is pretty basic.
It's really nice to hear those (typical American?) sealable plastic sleeves open and close! I have a few on some US albums I bought and the sound of them struck me at once. :) Speaking of Second Battle, there is also a 180 gram SB reissue of My Solid Ground, I beleive, Night Sun too. Jeff was urging me to start posting vids recently, I'm considering it but still kind of hesitating.. I have to set up a plan. :) Have a great Friday and an even greater weekend, Dereck! Cheers!
@dereckvon What I meant with that White Stripes comment was a guitar and a drummer made some good music. I have to hear those two bass players because I think that also is bold and brilliant move. Anything instrument wise that is out of the norm is something that I can't pass up on. So thanks for again Dereck for airing that LP. I will let you know how I dig it~ Rob
Nice video and choices Dereck. You're by far one of the biggest points of inspiration for me personally when I grow tired of the mainstream and want to go ah-splorin'. Loved the review of Barre and Phillips, if it's not a snorefest for you, chances are it'll grab an ear or two in the VC. Thanks for sharing. - Lj
Well Dereck it looks like you just showed two more that I will keep an eye for. The Short Circuits LP looks right up my alley as well as the DOM. Also I can relate with you very well on your gospel and feelings about Punk and blues. However there are a few blues artists that I enjoy but it is limited. Thanks for another great vid my brother!
@sonicmainliner I definitely don't take it wrong when you or anyone else chimes in that they have something I've shown. I very much like knowing what we have in common, especially when it is something uncommon! I totally dig your taste!
The album that caught my eye most was the David Holland and Barre Phillips LP. Any musicians that are throwing two basses into an whole LP got to be worth checking out. Say what you want about the White Stripes but I I never thought in all of the years I played in my cellar with just a drummer would be worth doing on stage. I have not picked up on your anger but I tried to release it through early AC/DC albums.I do believe I am catching up to you though. "Collect what you want" Rob/Boston
@EoLoVoX Thanks Rob. I'm afraid my editing skills are lacking and I don't think I have the software to control when and where I can drop content in. What do you use? I have been impressed with your editing skills.
"Reflecting who you are instead of how you should be" is indeed the best tip you could give to somebody D! Unfortunatly this is a mistake many people make today I guess... Music is a pure personal choice. Influences and education can from everywhere, that's fine, but the main reason for collecting has to come from inside yourself I think. Wanting to become a "music collector" is wanting to become a "result", without all the previous passion that actually start it all (I guess)
@Oakenshield1969 I don't think the way I store my records is common. I have long had the habit of either getting the sealable bags or taping them shut.
Dereck, I'm a-gonna start calling you Deepak if you keep up with this philosophy, man. Ha! I can't tell you how riveting your points of view are at times. We all need to walk our own path, but we all pick up on what others do, being the intrinsically social creatures that we are. One of my favorite adages is "One man's trash is another man's treasure", because I know that what I dig in the trash pile is the waste of another. Dig the records too, my friend! Dig em big time!
Great finds man, I really need to pick up something in the space rock-y genre. What would you recommend I pick up as a starter? Also loving your longer videos, I love sticking them on in the background when I'm sorting through records or doing homework (they keep me sane!) haha! Once again, great video man, can't wait till' the next one :)
@dereckvon - I didn't mean to imply that you should be editing your videos differently, I was simply lamenting the fact that you don't have your own radio show! (...even your own station? WDVH has a nice ring to it.) I'd certainly be a regular (and avid) listener if you did. Since you asked, I use the standard iMovie program to edit sound and video here. One of the things that I love about Macs and Apple software is how user-friendly and easy to use it all is.
I have shown Edge or Time Dom on my last video from Greece, it is excellent! Don't take this comment wrong though, like I am boasting or moaning or anything like that. It's good you show this as people will pay more attention. Argh... I wanted Allez Teia, I ordered it but never arrived! Good tips on collecting, and mind blowing records as always!
have you ever heard of Apoteosi they are an italian prog band from the erly 70's..they made just one album,you should check them out..they were very very young when they made the record..I'm guessing 19 or 20 years old..also cheer for knowing your prog rock like a real champ,greetings from Europe :)
@Oakenshield1969 I have the My Solid Ground cd on Second Battle and would definitely like to get the vinyl. Why not do videos? You can't look any goofier than the rest of us! ;-o You have a great weekend too!
You look somewhat like the brilliant Laraaji.....;']...Bytheway,,,that "May Blitz" is somewhat dated,,,playable maybe once in 5 year. Always thought that May Blitz was the name of that creature on the cover,yet it mainly relates to the intense Nazis bombings of the U.K. during May 1941.
@dereckvon - On the other side of that coin, your Logitech camera gives you far superior picture quality to my Sony Handycam. May I ask what model you have? Now that I've gotten hooked on the VC, a better camera is at the top of my wish list.
hey man, really enjoying your stuff! dom has been on my list for years, and i dig your "universal" comments.... im in a psyche/space instrumental band with kraut in our DNA, think you might like our stuff and "GET IT"... ruclips.net/video/Ql1hXha9MT0/видео.html also, swedens: my brother the wind ( u probably know them )..... thanks, and keep the vinyl spinning!!!
Wow, 11 years ago, great show, really liked the things you hit on especially the blues thing! I agree !
I don't know what other people think, but I really enjoy your long videos. I may not be able to watch them right when you upload them, but I really like watching them. It's a like a television show without commercials. A television show about music!

"Satisfy your soul." Right on. I appreciated your talk about where you're coming from. I too feel like the world sometimes needs to catch up.
Found Dom and you sir are right. A fantastic kaleidoscope of every byte of every sound is played and makes me go, oh this is from 72!! So that's where it came from....
love your videos dude. great to hear fellow krautrock passion
I enjoyed your video quite a bit. Very informative and entertaining. Thank you.
Thank you so much for showing me Edge of Time, so epic
I watched this video a long time ago, and just now managed to listen to "edge of time".
It is now one of my favourite albums and I wanted to thank you :)
Great video! Love hearing your opinions and ideas very interesting.
Woah, May Blitz!
Universality. Very much so. Well expressed yet again.
Explosions in mid-air in the room how the hell is this happening that is the most awesome description ever
"I'm waiting for the damn rest of this planet to catch up with me."
You've got my vote. dereckvon 2016, baby!

So digging all of this.
@TheGrecianThunder Thanks Andreas. I always look forward to hearing from you and am so glad we vibe!
@TwinMillMC Haruomisi Hosono and Bill Laswell. I always list the background music in the notes below the video. Hope you enjoyed the music.
Hi,
I want to thank you Derek, Dom lp
Just what I have been looking for...
Sublime.

1:21 what i hear is very close to the movie TERMINATOR soundtrack!!!!!!

Love your long videos and the rants!... gotta go check some of these artists, thanks for sharing
Wow! Just listened to this album after watching this video - absolutely amazing! Very similar to Agitation Free ;)

Yes, Cecil Taylor Indent. Mandatory listening

The albun is by Julian Priester on the ECM label titled 'Love, Love'.
Yes!
@EoLoVoX That's quite all right though, I really would like to know how to match the music with the commentary. Seems the program that goes with the Logitech camera I use is pretty basic.
@TheBlackhawkSniper Thanks, that's very encouraging.
@mgfoster Yes, Hosono and Laswell from their Interpieces Organization cd.
Music For Two Basses is a fabulous album - I listened to it only yesterday!
It's really nice to hear those (typical American?) sealable plastic sleeves open and close! thanks man, just subscribed. I am buying that Dom as we speak!
Well Dereck it looks like you just showed two more that I will keep an eye for. The Short Circuits LP looks right up my alley as well as the DOM. Edge of Time is just awesome. Nice to see it on vynil.
Smokin the day away? Come on !!! Haha
Hi Dereck !! Great Job :)
@dereckvon I read the description but I didn't realize that those were the names of the music playing in the background. Thanks much for the reply!

@Paneeks1960 I understand. I was all righting that you're catching up. You're already part of the answer.
@Lazerrus I really appreciate all types of blues in spite of my words. I got issues.
@EoLoVoX Thanks Rob. I'm afraid my editing skills are lacking and I don't think I have the software to control when and where I can drop content in. What do you use? I have been impressed with your editing skills.
@bigstar1000 Legendary stuff!
I know your a fan of Dom - Edge of Time. Any other suggestions on Krautrock / space rock albums that are similar in tone? Psychedelic, trippy, etc.
"Reflecting who you are instead of how you should be" is indeed the best tip you could give to somebody D! Unfortunatly this is a mistake many people make today I guess... @katonwdepena I definitely have Melos on cd, would love to find it on vinyl!
@TheArtistMaster Thanks for hanging with me.
@Oakenshield1969 I don't think the way I store my records is common. I have long had the habit of either getting the sealable bags or taping them shut.
@TwinMillMC No problem!
@BioCYTE1 Always good to hear from you Lj. I like your spirit as well.
@anievon No doubt the music is very rich.
Thank You! Subscribing.
@malawri67 Cool. Thanks!
@dereckvon - Thanks!
I agree with every word you said, about Edge Of Time by Dom
@EoLoVoX My camera model number is Logitech HD Webcam C310.

I dig your taste. Have you listened to Dzyan, "Electric Silence"?
+Bjorn Nilsson Yes I used to own a vinyl copy. Still have it digitally.
I think your a really rad guy and enjoyed to hear you talk. I'm just getting into kraut rock so in your opinion where should i start?
Neu.
total recall
I have shown Edge or Time Dom on my last video from Greece, it is excellent! Don't take this comment wrong though, like I am boasting or moaning or anything like that. It's good you show this as people will pay more attention.

Forgive me but what is the name of the artist/music playing in the background. Sounds like a modern The Twilight Zone...

Never heard of Mary White or some of the others. Did you used to be a DJ? Do you buy your records locally?
what is the record playing @ 6:33 ??!
DOM album is OK, just takes FAR too long to get into a groove, and when it does the music stops and slow, slow, quick quick slow.... off they go again
hey man, really enjoying your stuff! dom has been on my list for years, and i dig your "universal" comments.... im in a psyche/space instrumental band with kraut in our DNA, think you might like our stuff and "GET IT"... ruclips.net/video/Ql1hXha9MT0/видео.html also, swedens: my brother the wind ( u probably know them )..... thanks, and keep the vinyl spinning!!!
