- I'm making this video to analyze how Australian actor, Chris Hemsworth, talk in Indonesia and how his dialect and pronounciation affect the way he speaks. Hopefully this video can promote about Indonesian Language and teach people how to use it for beginners. As an Indonesian myself, I'm so proud to be able to share this video as a motivation and inspiration for us and everyone to learn more about the language and its uses everyday. Also thank you for the Indonesian Ministry of Education for Reposting this video!

He knows a few phrases. He said it himself.
But that’s already impressive.
His pronounciation is very good. Almost like hearing a native speaker doing a voiceover because you can't believe it at the first hearing.
Definitely a few phrases. The title implied, Chris was talking straight in one session, but it was just compilations of all the times he did. Too bad, he wasn't actually conversational, as that would show the depth he wanted to get into.
The first girl in the video sounded awful, as she intentionally exaggerated her greeting, as if she was a native English speaker attempting to speak Bahasa Indonesian.

I find that non English speakers really appreciate it is you can speak a little. It's respectful, and it's fun! All he had to do was Google for a little revision, and he's set!
Chris was pretty good. He wasn't acting like he expected huge praise and ego boosts, and he could actually understand many replies.

I totally disagree with the French part. Going over there and trying to speak their language, they were complete dbags about it. German yes, but French people no.

Bahasa Indonesia is a fairly young language.
It's very systematic and simple as a language. You probably can learn all the basic pronunciations in several weeks.
It share the same basic alphabets as english.
The same combination of consonants and vowels all make the same sound in every word (no exceptions to the rule), it's not phonetic and I promise no wierd symbol above any letter.
The Grammar is basically non existent, instead of using tenses we just add another word before the verb to show when something is happening.
Vocabulary wise most advanced words are just basic words with affixes added and those affixes all follow the same rule and have fixed meanings. So you just have to remember several affixes.
It's gender neutral (looking at you french). No different pronoun/noun between male and female for all living being.
It's a very modern and simple language, learning it for 3-6 months probably will get you to the level of junior high school student.
And we have the word for "the day after tomorrow". We're not savages.
I honestly think more people should try and study it more.

Why are people so surprised? He's from Australia, and there's so many Indonesians in Aussie. It's not that difficult to pick up when you are surrounded by native speakers...
I mean in America we're surrounded by Spanish speakers and learn it in school but most Americans know hardly any Spanish.
Also most Americans don't know that there are a lot of Indonesians in Australia, idk if it's common knowledge to the rest of the world.
Not many Indonesian speakers here, but most people my age were taught in school, and the phrases he was using are pretty much the first things you learn.
I'm Canadian and our official languages are English and French. I'm surrounded by people who speak indigenous languages as well. I only know English. I know some indigenous and French words but nothing fancy.
I guess he's so long with Hollywood through Marvel movies that people get off-guard sometimes. And probably MCU were so huge, it's the first time most of us listen/knowing this. Hugh Jackman was also Aussie and a big actor, but never heard him speaking Indonesia, although I guess Indonesia media didn't catch up with him like they did with Marvel's cast, probably.
I honestly had no idea. It makes sense now that it's brought up but I've always associated Australia with being a bit cut off from the rest of the world, so yeah I'm happily surprised. This is so cool
First I was like "wow he knows how to speak Indonesian, impressive!". But then I remember Australia is pretty close to Indonesia, so it makes sense that they have the option to learn it in Australia. I was seeing this in the perspective of an European, which it makes no sense for us to learn Indonesian except if we are interested in going to the country or learning the culture.
I don't know, I live in the States and no one here (outside of the Hispanic and Latino crowd) cares to learn Spanish or at least use it after high school. Yet we have many native Spanish speaking citizens and the country right next door speaks primarily Spanish and there's not even a large body of water between us. There are some that have tried, yes, but I could count them on my hand, so they are the minority.
@@regina_filange2.0 Yes but the US citizens are not known for being open to foreign culture (or interested in it, of course not all are like this, but the majority pass that idea, that they are very US-centric)... So I'm not surprised.
For example, I live in Portugal, we are a very open country to foreigners and different cultures. Most Portuguese can speak at least (besides obviously Portuguese) English or Spanish well. Some speak English, French and Spanish. But that's our culture. It also helps foreign movies and shows are not dubbed, but subtitled. That's how I learned English, for example.
@@The_Curious_Cat That's amazing, and Portugal looks so beautiful. I wish our country was more open to foreign culture. I live in the midwest, so basically the middle of nowhere. No reason for foreign culture to visit or live in this part of my country (unless you want cornfields and auto factories lol). That is more for bigger cities like New York (which is an 18hr drive from me, ha).
@@regina_filange2.0 It's the advantage of a small country, that's for sure. The US is so big, you can visit so many things without leaving the country, so one side I understand why they don't "care" about the rest of the world when you have such a huge internal market. Basically for me to travel like you guys do in the US, I would have to travel the whole of Europe, that's how big the country is, which is crazy for European standards.
Hope you get to visit Portugal some day, we have lots of good food and great scenery. :P
