It's so delightfully weird to see Patrick Rothfuss, a genuine big, important contemporary writer, just goofing around playing zoom games, and being so good at it. Imagine walking into a salon in 1840s and seeing Edgar Allan Poe just crushing everyone at parlor games.
Maybe I'm the only one who's watched every overboard enough times to have seen this, but Dustin is 100% the continuation of Patrick's stoner cashier from the Spyfall episode with Matt Mercer
The implication that in this universe people live on the moon, and the regional chain of used disc stores Slackers exists AND made it to the moon, but Radio Shack does not
Well, Slackers is just such a cool place. You get to smoke weed, take breaks whenever you like, also Dustin works there. What? No, it's not like I like him or anything... but like, you gotta admit he's so cool..
The way that each of these characters is unmoored from reality in equally profound but vastly different ways is so powerful. Such raw energy in this roleplaying.
I love Overboard RPGs, but damn, I didn't expect to get this invested in Tweedy and Dustin's relationship, let alone the whole story! Y'all did amazing.
I like to think Bed Bath & Benny's life was completely unaffected by the ending. Still the same dude, still reminding shoppers which currency they can spend on candles and loofahs.

@@mattconw Since they're often live at the same time, when Patrick is done with his stream, he sends all his viewers to Polygon's stream. It's a built-in function in Twitch called a raid.
The "Let's Not" card is such a great idea for getting people into these games who would usually be too shy, or who just get uncomfortable when something comes up. I love it. I hope more of these types of games implement something like that.
I was expecting the "someone isn't so innocent after all" card to turn into the reveal that Benny is disgraced Jeff Bezos, but accidently causing the apocalypse is pretty much the same.
I love this! Please tell me the conversation about Patrick Rothfuss joining for an Overboard started because of his raids in the Polygon twitch channel
Honestly you could make a RUclips channel that was just this and I would be happy. Overboard is pretty much the only polygon thing I watch regularly, it's ALWAYS good
this game sort of reminds me of a more structured, less open-ended Microscope, which is a history/world building game that's super cool and played entirely by writing on index cards.
hey lemme tell you, i've worked at a Radio Shed and batteries were the highest-profit-margin item in that place. corporate used to write us up if we didn't ask *every* transaction if people wanted batteries. i specifically asked them if i still had to ask if they literally bought batteries and the answer was unironically yes. solid choice Binny.
I’ve really grown to appreciate the “set boundaries” step at the beginning of collective storytelling. I’m DMing Curse of Strahd, and I tried to ask my players if there was any lines they didn’t cross. They didn’t speak up, and honestly they’re a group very open to edgy subjects, but Curse of Strahd is definitely a setting where a lot of triggering issues can come up. I definitely set a few boundaries myself I wasn’t willing to cross.

I know there's no 'right' way to play a game like this. But as someone who has played and watched Fiasco many times, the writers room approach was so alien to me. I'm more used to establishing just being where and who, then improv driving the scene.
didn't realize there was a new version of fiasco! loved the original, haven't played in forever, excited to see if this new version being more approachable will get it to the table
omg yes Fiasco! one of the best ttrpgs my beloved. if this gave anyone the Fiasco bug I recommend Fiasconauts by Easy Allies- the Tallest Christmas Tree In The Nation episode also takes place in a mall :^)
Patrick Rothfuss is pretty cool, reminds me of like half of the people in the SCA. Also my dad, but he falls in the first group. Now i need to kidnap him and have him talk for long lengths at a time with my dad, as that is the only appropriate solution.
So, here's my obligatory comment about how incredibly clever and talented the Polygon Crew are. And for the 10 people out there who understand: the initial setup (before the name generation) sounded 100% like the perfect Unknown Armies setup.

Yes! I couldn't stop picturing his character as Señor Cardgage. Amazing
Dueling mall churches I'm die
edit: how many religious institutions are in this mall??
ALL OF THEM
There’s just like a wing of the mall that’s entirely full of different churches, temples, mosques, etc and they’re all having bake sales
The mall is slowly converting to an all religions temple lol
Jeff Bezos founded his own christian denomination, Bezoism
The further into this I get the more questions I have about this Moon Mall,,,
oh overboard always comes when i most need it... great source of happy at all times
“nahhhh…. moon diamonds.” got me
