Sorry folks, operator error :( At 4:48 Colorista should be dropped before Looks (above Looks). Doing so, Colorista will work in the camera color space and Looks will transform the clip along with the adjustment to display space. Cheers, Max.

Thanks for that. Could you do another episode for Final Cut Pro please? If you do, please not only show how to do this for a rec709 delivery but also how one should go about for an HLG or PQ project in FCP? Thanks in advance!

Hi @lyrgh, thanks a lot. Max here, unfortunately I do not have Final Cut Pro. I am unsure if Final Cut Pro can support ACES natively or not.
If it can support ACES natively, then what you need to do is to set up ACES framework in the project setting and just select the ACEScct or ACEScc from the In/Out dropdown.
However, if it doesn't natively support ACES, then it'll be a bit of a challenge. You can try this. If you are aiming to target HDR PQ then set the output of Looks to OUTPUT > P3-D60 ST2084 (1000 nits). ST2084 means it will use PQ as the transfer function. If you are viewing this in a REC709 monitor, it will look totally wrong, you'll need to view those transform in an HDR monitor to be able to see the correct transformation. Hopefully this helps. Cheers.

Hey do you know how to import your own LUT on davinci resolve? I put my .MBlook file into the custom preset folder but it doesn't show up in looks.

Hi @88misty, importing your own LUT on DaVinci Resolve is pretty straightforward. Open the project settings, go to the color management tab and click the Open LUT folder. This will open your finder. You can then copy and paste your LUTs here and they will be visible in Resolve LUT browser.
However, .MBLooks file is unique to Magic Bullet Looks, you will need to import them from Magic Bullet Looks. Launch Magic Bullet Looks and then open the preset drawer (Looks drawer), on the top right, you'll see an arrow icon. Click that and it will open a finder, you can then locate your custom .MBLooks files. Hit open and then all your selected custom .MBLooks files will be shown in the Looks drawer. Hope this helps, Cheers.

Unfortunately no Nikon N-log as input. When will you add it?

We'll pass that request on to the team.

I love this! I also love Colorist V in premiere pro. Is it possible to work in Aces in Colorista?

      Thanks a lot @RyanBartonGrimley!
I’m glad that you like working with Colorista V in Premiere Pro.
The standalone Colorista V works in a Log space, so, if the host app can natively support ACES framework, Colorista V will work.
For now, if you want to work in ACES with Colorista, you can use the Colorista inside Looks, since Looks has all the ACES transforms. Hope this helps. Cheers, Max.

@@MaxonRedgiant I will try that, thanks. Regarding Colorista V, just updated and it has real bugs with Premiere Pro 2024 when you change LUTs. I have multiple support tickets and no contact back...... Trying to finish coloring my latest feature film with it, love it, but a real thorn in my side right now :) Help!

if using MB looks in AE with ACES is there a way to see all the scopes values, they appear to be just clipping at 1.0 - no way to see the float values? this is important when trying to pull info from overbrights.

    • @MaxonRedgiant
      @MaxonRedgiant  6 месяцев назад

Yes! At the top of your Looks window, click directly to the right of Preview: (It'll probably say something like ACES1.0 - SDR Video) and it'll toggle to None.
The scope readout is tied to your preview. So, if your preview is transform is off, you can see all the values.

At 3.33 regarding input colour space why is there no option for Blackmagic Film colour space/gamma? This was possible 3yrs ago as shown in this clip from Maxon's Red Giant New Features at 1.26 ruclips.net/video/3JSU7SKXCao/видео.html

We'll ping the team on this one. In the meantime, with the latest update to Looks, depending on your host application, you may be able to have it automatically match the correct footage profile without having to mess with these settings at all.

And, of course, if you switch to 1D color handling mode in Looks, the settings in the video you referenced are all still there.
