Then you get sick from it….like discombobulated. No wait, dis eased perhaps. You even think it’s possible you’ll die for having so much more than you need. I mean the chance is definitely there. And the longer you eat the cake, the longer it is before you ever see King PeePeePee when you look down again. Then it’s at that point you decide maybe it’s not so bad not being able to see down…I mean cause Meshuggah said not to look down if ya wanna fly maybe. No that’s not it. I’m rambling. Yeah, this song reminds me, how lucky I am to be who and where I am at this very moment. Also to strive until my last breath for depth in understanding.
Meshuggah actually do have a 4/4 "groove" feel. That's part of the reason of why I love them -- the crazy polyrhythmic sound makes it feel like the 4/4 groove is *about* to break into something completely different, but it never actually does. Makes a wonderful, suspenseful "on edge" sound.
The secret is that at least one player is playing 4/4 at all times. In this case, it's Thomas Haake playing 4/4 on the hats and snare, while the kick and guitars/bass are playing 17/16 (but think of it more like 4/4 with an extra 16th note hanging off the end).

These guys started out as a band who had to think, write down, practice over and over again, and then repeat in order to make music like this. They still have to think and practice, and without a doubt still write down the signatures whenever they are in writing mode. They are just so damn good at it now because they have been doing it for so long that the thinking part is 2nd nature and they pump out songs like this in no time. Every time I give myself the time to fully absorb a new (for me) Meshuggah tune, I always come away amazed and inspired. Just hear the new definition of groove...outstanding, out of time and total genius ! Thanks to you guys for keeping the fight in this world of desolating music...
The original time of this song is 4:44 minutes long. 444 represents a spiritual awakening in ones life, which is basically the main theme of meshuggah's music.
My two favorite guitarists ever are Fredrik Thordendal and Reb Beach of Winger. The solo in this song in particular just goes to show they both have the same influences, mainly Allan Holdsworth among other things but this solo sounds totally Winger. I think its one of the only ones from Meshuggah that doesn't sound alien. I love it! Great style!
Thordendal and Beach come from two very different worlds but I see your point. You are right, solo is genius. I also loved many of Paul Masvidal’s solos like on the „human“ album from death. Some of them sound like from outer space. (Btw I still own an Ibanez Reb Beach from the 90‘s which I think is still looking sweet af. 😁)
@@tylerdurden9879 Human is my absolute favorite Death album. Great solos and riffing. Is your Reb Beach guitar his signature model that was referred to as "The Voyager Series"? I was just looking it up.
Yeah these guys just don't ever stop challenging themselves as musicians and songsmiths. The limitations of whatever their previous effort was tends to always get overshadowed by whatever they come out with next. These guys were around to trailblaze in the mid 90's and have been on the war path ever since. Fuck any haters, this is probably one of the most influential, if not important metal bands from the 90's. And they're still challenging the standards they set in their own genre.
My dad a hardcore catholic, said to me that these guys are all satanic. My response to him was that though the music is in fact very ominous and menacing, the lyrics are just about issues concerning individuals own alienation towards society. He then made the sign of the cross and throw me blessed water. Since then I've being suffering from seizures and skin rash. Probably I'm still to naive and old dad is alright. Who knows?
I have a similar experience with Stengah. I actually remember the moment I first "felt" the rhythm and could bang my head to it. It was enlightening and a feeling the became addictive. Good thing there's plenty of material from Meshuggah and several other bands to satisfy that.
I once had a dream that the entire worlds population was forcibly taken up into blimps...thousands of them all in the sky, and when I ripped a whole in one of the sides of the blimps I could see billions of corpses floating in the ocean...This should have been the soundtrack to that dream
If you didn't know, It was Mårten (the guitarist) who coined the phrase "djent-djent" when describing (IIRC) the sound on the song soul burn. after that, a bunch of newer bands of similar sounds kinda adopted it as the word for describing their sound.
Lyrically, this song definitely resonates my attitude towards certain things in society today! It's actually a pretty positive song....you know through the heaviness! Musically, I'm becoming a big Tomas Haake fan, but the rhythm and chord arrangement.... phenomenal! An I'm not a huge "Death Metal" fan but this song makes my playlist!

The original time of this song is 4:44 minutes long. 444 represents a spiritual awakening in ones life, which is basically the main theme of meshuggah's music.
All their albums have different themes
O_O I looked down... Oh my god!
Yeah what a short little penis rests there
Not Mozart speaking from experience ? 0.0
Hey Riley , I agree with you I understand this groove not because I know what's being played here but because I feel what's being played!
Are u happy now, then praise your God and bow!! Love the spitefulness of this line
Who knows?
TheMoonchild1969 Do not confuse the cure with the disease.
Woah,I'd avoid letting old pops hear their songs lyrics clearly.
Demiurge, for example, might set off his alarm bells.
Eh im a devout Catholic and I jam to worse stuff then this.
Try Dancers to a Discordant System, he may wake up. Kidding, you might wind up homeless.
The singer is the one
Dang, an almost bluesy Meshuggah solo?! Ma lyfe is complete.
Still haven't built up the courage to look down
It's been years buddy, you'll need to at some point
I have a similar experience with Stengah. I actually remember the moment I first "felt" the rhythm and could bang my head to it. It was enlightening and a feeling the became addictive. Good thing there's plenty of material from Meshuggah and several other bands to satisfy that.
I once had a dream that the entire worlds population was forcibly taken up into blimps...thousands of them all in the sky, and when I ripped a whole in one of the sides of the blimps I could see billions of corpses floating in the ocean...This should have been the soundtrack to that dream
Meshuggah is a masterclass in musical mastery.
For minutes of heaven, I haven’t heard metal music this good since “Enter Sandman”
"No matter in what kinda rhythm you head bang to Meshuggah, it still applies."
Or so I've been told.
Who is here in 2020 still grooving to Meshuggah and waiting for a new record? They are fucking awesome!
My mind when playing this: djun djun djum dadjun djum, dadadadadada djun djun djum dadjun djum
definitely the best metal ive heard in a long time.
