Alright, heres the thing. I own a Nissan Maxima 2004 and my sunroof suddenly stopped working. It didn't wanted to open/close completely. I thought it was the motor, but it wasn't. Here's what I did. The problem are the rails, dirty rails. You need to clean them, I used a paint brush and a degreaser. Soak the paint brush with the degreaser or put it directly to the rails, you need to clean all the dirt is in there. Wait a couple of hours, half a day would be better, or you can dry it off with something. Next step is you need to disperse all the degreaser you used so put a good amount of WD-40 in those rails, lube them very good. Once you did that let it dry for 2 days. It will dry, I promise. In the meanwhile get some Lithium Grease, you'll need it. After 2 days, use the Lithium Grease for lube the rails and every moving part you find in the sunroof structure. Try to open/close it and it should be work as good as new. Mine was stuck, I had to use my hand so it could move. Good luck.
@@melf7487 I posted all the steps I did. Try to move it with your hands, but not that hard or you'll break something. I haven't had any problems since then.
Thanks a ton, Old Whisky. I was having the same problem with my 2008 Versa. I pulled back the control panel and found that one of the screws from the motor assembly was rolling around in the map light. Put it back in, tightened the other screws, and it worked like normal.
i tried removing it carefully but i broke it as well, i am now trying to find a replacement. but on the bright side i was able to fix the issue. like you said one of the bolts came loose which was causing the problem. as soon as i tightened it up boom the sunroof closed normally
I really wanted to know "HOW" to fix my sun roof that does not work on a 2007 Nissan Maxima. Sadly, it didn't. First you shake your camera to extreme. Next how did you get the panel down in the first place? I would not know where to begin. Then, I have no idea what to do with the screws. Show us what you removed or tighten, etc. Next, you do not complete many of your sentences. So it leaves all kind of missing instructions. Cut out the comedian stuff. It takes away from a DIY video. And it is not funny. Sorry but true. Get rid of the music. It serves NO purpose in DIY UNLESS the DIY is about music.
hey @pat dee thanks for the critique of the video! I appreciate you watching it. Even though it is almost TWO YEARS old now and was filmed with a potato. I suspect that you really didn't have a problem with a Nissan Maxima did you? You just came across the video and wanted to rant and rave about my awesome comedic skills while being a shade tree mechanic. I hope you get that sunroof fixed, while you're at it I have an idea for your first ever RUclips video. You can do a "How-To" how-to video for all to see! ;) Have a great day Pat Dee and thanks for watching! Whiskey out!
Nice work but Will be better next time some body help you taking the video you can show me better I have same problem but I'm stuck hahahahha doing these well keep working on that
The sunroof on my 03 Maxima will not slide open at all (although it does vent.) I came here hoping for some advice on how to fix but got a headache trying to discern what the hell you were talking about half the time, shaking the camera like crazy, not focusing in on the parts you were talking about as you were talking about them (like the screws where the hell are they and how do you remove/ reinstall?) If you're going to do an instructional video do an instructional video, not this 5th rate half ass explanation.
Not sure if you tried this yet but it happened to me too after changing my battery. It has to be reset. Hold the close button down for like 15 sec, and it should reset itself then try to open it again. Found the video on youtube..nissan sunroof reset
This issue just happened to me on my 06 . Thanks for your help , I will give it a try in the morning . 💪

@@oldwhiskey2765 When you say screw.....what size are they? How many do I need? I see a few holes that do not have the screw in them.
Did you have to take that whole motor out?
Do you have to remove Headliner to get to motor ?

Mine doesn't make the grind sound, it just goes barely halfway, then backsup. Won't go all the way forward to close, what can I do?

What's that piece called that you accidently broke where the lights and controls are on. I need a new one for my 2008 Maxima and I can't find it
Dome map light console?
I think I called it a control panel lol.
Wish it worked. Wish you would have showed how to remove the panel. Sounds like just break it.
You got me with( argggg)........
