I found some beautiful fabric yesterday and fancied a cowl neck top. I knew you had a vlog on one so came looking. I can’t believe this is 4 yrs ago honestly it doesn’t feel that long. Wish me luck and Thank You 🙌❤️💜💙
I love a high cowl neckline like this. I've tried to imagine this pattern many times, but never on paper. ...This is not at all what I thought it looked like. Thank you!
Hi Rachel I agree with Tilly's Agnes top they fit so well and yes you can hack this top to create aother outfit. I love the cowl neck top you have just demonstrated what a joy I will be making one up. I love the fabric you have choosen for this project and you look great. Thank you so much for sharing. You are a lovely person to watch you tell it has you see it. Happy sewing xx
A lovely top and the fabric is gorgeous. In the past when I have used the lightening stitch on jersey and made a mistake you can never unpick it its very hard to do. I have ruined many jersey dresses with that stitch. Mercedes from The GBSB gave a tip on one of her blogs saying use an ordinary stitch and a ball point needle and you will be able to unpick. Mercedes has made the Nina Lee South Bank Sweater dress. Not that you make mistakes but just thought I would mention it. I have some lovely teal jersey I have ruined through not being able to unpick. Keep your tutorials coming Rachel they are good.
I Came across this whilst looking for a different hack. I will be using this in the not to distant future. Thank you for sharing your tutorial, looking forward to the sibiu sew a long too. X
Thank you Rachel, am going to give this a try. I returned to sewing 4 years ago after a very long break and am beginning to get a fabric stash, I did try to buy fabric and make it up straight away but there are so many lovely fabrics and not enough sewing time!!! Keep safe. X
Thank you I enjoyed watching this. I’ve made the Cowl neck dress by SOI before but it’s an awkward fit on the shoulders- slips off.i don’t find the Cowl too big though. It’s amazing how straight forward it is to hack the neckline. I liked the way u bound the back neck as you just turn the SOI one in which I wasn’t that happy with. Your top looks lovely 🤗
Years ago we cut a large circle and folded it in hakf and sewed it to a low neckline to make a beautiful cowl. It was a class I took called sew that cowl. I loved the look. It was very similar to your cowl. But I’m trying to fill in necklines that are too low. Have you seen that circular add on cowl.
Thanks for this tutorial Rachel. The top is beautiful. I have tried making various cowl neck patterns and the drop is always too deep. I end up exposing much more than intended and end up trashing the garment. Your tutorial allows for a more subtle drop in the cowl which results in a very elegant look.
Thank you for this video! I'm a fan of cowl necks. As a plus size, I couldn't find a pattern with the National brands. The one pattern I DID find was 6 inches (bust) too small. So it seemed daunting to both add width AND attempt to add a cowl neck. If as you say, any T-shirt top pattern can be modified to have this cowl neck added. Wish me luck!
Thank you so much for the fantastic tutorial! I am definitely going to try this soon. The top looks absolutely gorgeous on you! Your weddings are lovely.
Rachel, thanks so much for this video. It was great to see how the cowl neck is created I look forward to giving it a go. I'm really enjoying your videos. Thank you so much 👍
Thanks for your great instructions, I’ve made 2 now Rachel the second one I used the front of the sew over it cowl neck to make the cowl a bit droopier but used the shoulder of the Agnes.... if you know what I mean and it worked well x
Beautiful top! Thank you for the tutorial. I have many patterns for cowl necks because it’s my favorite neckline, but most are too low for work (teacher). Can’t have cleavage showing around kiddos and the lower necks also open up when leaning over to help students. This one is 👌. I’ve seen the tutorials floating around, but watching you do it makes it seem simple and easier somehow (plus those ones also made a deep cowl). Thanks again!
Very actual details, you say you used medium, would that be a 38/40 European size, and what basic pattern did you use. I would to know. Thanking you in advance.
Love this idea. Does it work on all necklines? I’ve not considered the Agnes top before because it looks so tight fitting on the pattern but yours look perfect. Just a comment on the music, it’s a bit loud and I felt like I had to break into a rave everytime it came on!
I really enjoy watching your videos, but, this one I had to keep turning the volume up and down because your music was louder than your voice. Can you turn that down before you post a video? Please
TaTyTa Sewing thanks for your feedback, I think it must be your settings though as I made sure the volume was equal on everything and watched it through before uploading and it was fine on my computer?
Always wanted to know how to make the drape-neck out of a regular neckline and really appreciate the video, Rachel. (Mine did the same up and down volume thing so I kept my fingers and controlled that way.)
@@Saladmama57 I turned mine up and down too, but I think people who make videos like to hear feedback, if not then they shouldn't be making videos for other people to watch.
Love how cute your tops look on you!stay well heard they are shutting down all your borders now since c19 broke out! Hope your family is well as we do lock down! Really enjoy how you make your patterns by tracing them and how you store them in folders. I store mine in plastic folders so I know where they are now I’m hunting xl tote to put them inn as I don’t have a sewing room
I also found the music a bit too much whilst trying to concentrate on what you were doing. Great tutorial, though. Very good instructions, and I love the finished garments. I will try this at some point soon. Thank you 😊
No offense, but please don't play that loud, awful, or any music. Nothing wrong with silence to digest what you're saying. Otherwise, though, excellent video and really helpful!! I will save it for reference.

Fab tutorial, well explained. Thank you. re music: it was a bit on the loude side for me too. xx
loved your tutorial on hacking a favourite tshirt into a cowl. i did however struggle with the sound.
I love a high cowl neckline like this. I've tried to imagine this pattern many times, but never on paper. ...This is not at all what I thought it looked like. Thank you!
I have reviewed so many tutorials but this seems to be the most sensible for adding a cowl neckline. Looking forward to trying it.

Wow, beautifully taught. Thank you for this great tutorial, it is something I had always wanted to know how to do. ❤
Wow, I will try this tomorrow morning. I’m on prednisone just now and totally messed up my sleep pattern. This is FANTASTIC! Thanks Rachel.
You did a great job on this Rachel ... thanks so much! 💚💚💚
Thank you! Your top is gorgeous and I'm off to adapt my Freya pattern. Looking forward to your next sew-along.

Stitched Up! Fab! Thanks x
Thank you Rachel. Great tutorial. Stay safe and well. x

I am definitely going to do this, thank you for a clear and precise hack tutorial, again fantastic.
Thanks for that Rachel , it looks great and I am going to try it!☺
Excellent tutorial, I need to get a curved ruler and try it out on the Maven patterns Somerset T! 😀
Thanks Rachel! Great video.
I have a quick question. Did you stitch the front cowl facing down? Or just leave it loose?
I can't wait to try this!
Looks good love the fabric. Thank you for showing us
Lovely! Thank you for this. I will be making myself one soon.
Tx. Great instructions. Pattern and fabric beautiful.

Easy clear tutorial. I beg of you, replace that unnerving sound track.
Fantastic Thank You ❤️🙌🏻
Fabulous I don’t need to buy another pattern
Great tutorial 🇦🇺💗
I have to agree. The blasting music made me give up watching.
Thanks x
Thanks
I love it!
Great video, but the music is too loud.
I really liked your video, your voice is pleasant to listen but found the music too jarring
😀
Thank you for the tutorial. Good job. Apart from the music which is too loud, too strident and too horrible.
Well thanks for that
No offense, but please don't play that loud, awful, or any music. Nothing wrong with silence to digest what you're saying. Otherwise, though, excellent video and really helpful!! I will save it for reference.
