I have an OM-1 in perfectly working condition with a clear view finder. Should I have the prism foam removed as a preventive measure?

That is a good question. I think if you feel comfortable in being able to take it apart and putting it back together again then go for it. Otherwise maybe if you see the slightest hint of something going on in the prism you can stop it. Considering that’s a pretty old camera and it hasn’t happened yet is probably a good sign however.

The foam or material Olympus applied inside the camera has dissolved to a liquid. This goo will react to the silver prism coating if left alone. It is possible Olympus changed the material during the production years. or the goo does not flow onto your prism. If you can open the top you should do it or inspect. but you can damage some of the screws or finish. If the prism is damaged it does not alter the picture just your view. If the goo flows onto the meter it will be damaged. I have seen 5 for 5 with minor to sever damage. 3 cameras have not been opened. Pentax and Minolta also have this problem. Do not turn the screw on the rewind knob. it is a decorative aluminum part and will break. Do not move the power switch it is a circuit board and cracks if not aligned when the top is replaced.

what was the purpose of the electrical tape and also... on my OM-1, I have a loose strap lug. Do you know if the lug is easily accessible just doing the steps you did on here? thanks..

Any tips on removing ASA dial and the 'plastic cap' of advance lever? I am trying to repaint the top and bottom covers but the ASA dial won't budge

Oh dang, it’s been so long since I made that, I’m trying to remember. I’ll look back and let you know if I dig it out.
      Thanks

Hey thank you for your superb video, but where's the end result? Is the blob gone? Tbh I wonder if you actually succeed to clean it up because you don't even touch the prism or viewfinder.

Iqmal Sunny the blob is still there from the damage that was already done. The repair will keep it from damaging the prism worse so the camera can’t be used at all. I still shoot with it and it works great.

Did you just use a Phillips head screwdriver? No problems?
