What I find unbelievable is current indifference of society towards something so serious. Denial is the great sin of our generation. The next won't have a choice but to accept it and suffer our inaction, because it will be too late to do anything about it.

Totally agree, is so frustrating and depressing to see how the people doesn't care about our most dangerous threat. Sometimes I feel really bad and I don't know what I can do, a possible solution requires a global scale politic change, but while most of the people deny the problem and the cause (us) is hard to imagine a real solution of the problem. By now I think the problem is unstoppable, and I'm preparing my self and my family (I don't have kids) to be as much independent and auto-sustainable as I can to try to make front the next decades and I hope to spend my lasts years in peace.

@@rodrobo1979 it's also a lack of any actual solution. The problem is unsolvable inside this civilisation and so a lot of people just switch off because they see that theres nothing that we can do as individuals. I am afraid the concern about climate change is a classic case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted
Except that not only has the horse long since bolted but we have not even shut the door yet. The truth is that
No one has the least idea of how to solve the problem. Even if we really wanted to, it is impossible to
Go back to to a pre industrial society and live a lifestyle like, for example, the Australian Aborigines. People
Are not going to give up their modern way of living, however ecologically desirable that may be. For one,
There are far too many people on the planet for that to be possible. And also, we have not even began
To solve problems which, at least in theory, would be easier to deal with than the climate. It is now been
Said that the Sahara Desert was created not naturally but by changes in weather patterns caused by
Human activity. If that is the case then humans have been changing the climate for not years, decades or
Centuries but for thousands of years.
And it is no good criticizing Donald Trump for pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement. This is a
Voluntary agreement meaning no action will be taken against countries, which in practice means
Nearly all of them, which fail to cut emissions. There are many things you may dislike about Mr. Trump
But at least he is being honest about the issue, and made it clear before he was elected that he would
Withdraw from Paris. The people one should really blame are those who elected him. He would not
Have been elected had Americans, at least in sufficient numbers, been truly concerned about global
    Warming.
And I also think that renewable energy, and I do believe we should develop it as much of it as possible,
Will not be be able to deliver more than a fraction, and probably a small fraction of that, of our energy
Needs. If I am wrong, and I hope I am, then we are going to have to invest a huge sum of money in it.
But we still spend a lot, lot more money on fossil fuels and on wars to keep access to them. The Iraq War
In 2003 is a classic example of this. The war there has cost the USA at least a trillion dollars, and
Probably more, not to mention the thousands of lives lost among the US military and Iraqi
Population. If Iraq had exported coconuts instead of oil, then America would never have
    Attacked the country.
Do remember, particularly given the world situation at the moment, the world still has thousands
Of nuclear armed missiles ready to be launched at the push of a button and the possibility remains
That a nuclear war will destroy the human race before the climate, over population and
The depletion of the worlds resources do.
I read the environmental problems of the world in books by the late naturalist Gerald Durrell over
40 years ago now and even then I thought world problems had become too big to be solved. I decided
Then I would never have children. Sad to say, I feel even more strongly today that I had made the right
Choice. It is now only a question of which catastrophe will kill us all off. If any alien visitors come to
Earth and find only a scorched, desolate and uninhabited planet then we shall only have ourselves to
    Blame.

And a Man sat alone, drenched deep in sadness. And all the animals drew near to him and said, "We do not like to see you so sad. Ask us for whatever you wish and you shall have it." The Man said, "I want to have good sight." The vulture replied, "You shall have mine." The Man said, "I want to be strong." The jaguar said, "You shall be strong like me." Then the Man said, "I long to know the secrets of the earth." The serpent replied, "I will show them to you." And so it went with all the animals. And when the Man had all the gifts that they could give, he left. Then the owl said to the other animals, "Now the Man knows much, he'll be able to do many things. Suddenly I am afraid." The deer said, "The Man has all that he needs. Now his sadness will stop." But the owl replied, "No. I saw a hole in the Man, deep like a hunger he will never fill. It is what makes him sad and what makes him want. He will go on taking and taking, until one day the World will say, 'I am no more and I have nothing left to give.'"

In my experience, I have found two general truths about people that really depress me.
    1. It's very hard to get people to care for anyone they can't see. People will generally only care when it looks good socially to care. Look at peoples attitudes to the most abused, gentle and volnerable individuals in society - pigs, cows, sheep, chikens..
    2. Most people are only interested in social acceptence. It's understandable, but totally immoral once your acceptence comes through your willingness to exploit, dominate and live at the expense of other people, animals and nature.
The dominant culture today is one of self-promotion, dominance, egoism and consumption. How many animals throats need to be slashed, how much plastic ending up in the ocean, how many natives lose their homes, how many trees cut means nothing to most people, as soon as they have to make an actual sacrifice.
A social sacrifice is the most dreaded type.
Everyones "personal choice" to eat animals is currently the biggest global threat to all life on earth.
At least 60% of plastics come from the fishing industry - not people.
The amazons are being deforested to produce beef.
Factory farming is a recipie for a deadly global pandemic.
We are using almost twice as much land area to feed the world animal products - leading to species loss, rescource shortages and contributing to world hunger.
We need to stop treating animals as products. We need to caringly take responsability for animals, not dominate and exploit them just because we can, and like the taste of their tortured bodies.
The solution is a plant based, vegan, ethics and food system..

    • @demoniack81
      @demoniack81 4 года назад

@@Honey-ik4vd No "honey", I'm not advocating for trapping wild elephants. I'm advocating for raising captive ones like we do with every other animal we want pieces of. Elephants are herbivorous so it wouldn't be THAT resource intensive to raise them, and the tusks from ONE single animal would be worth up to $400,000 at current market prices. That is PLENTY of money to raise an elephant, harvest the tusk and sell them, and doing so protects the wild population.
By the way several parks around Africa have experimented with removing their tusks and it CAN be done, it's just logistically very challenging to do it in the wild on a large enough scale to make any difference.
So maybe you could stop projecting your arrogant spoiled 10 year old brat self onto me, because clearly YOU are the one who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Hell, maybe you could even release the captive elephants INTO the wild afterwards, but I'm not an expert on elephant behaviors and don't know if they would be able to adapt after being bred in captivity.
Whether the product works or not is irrelevant. People evidently keep buying it anyway and that's not gonna change anytime soon regardless of how much you want it to.
People like you who are unwilling to compromise on anything and always want a "perfect" solution (which is never effective enough) are the reason problems don't get solved.

Nature cannot cope with the pace of change. As a 'clever' species we congratulate ourselves on progress and development which is the very thing that is going to finish us. Enough is never enough in our flawed consumer system. The pace of change and the continued increase in consumption is driving the destruction and humanity is deluded if they think they can stop it without ditching it's precious luxury lifestyle. We're reaping the repercussions of only ever having financial profit at the front of every initiative. Until that strategy is changed we will have to watch the demise. The banking system is a few hundred years old - the planet is billions. There's only one winner!!

Now people still do the same , I recycle , and I in the Southwest I love presently the amount of CARS and I called Clark County ALL politics for not implementing MASS transit to reduce their carbon footprint and yes maybe if we use nuclear was can at least start the process . We are the most intelligent species on this planet? Really then I would hate to meet the dumbest! Would an intelligent species risk their own survival because of money. Would they allow other species to go extinct around them knowing that any missing one may have a direct impact on their own survival.? Would they pass on a planet to their children and grandchildren that is in its death throes? No we are not intelligent but we are certainly greedy and full of lust for stuff no matter the true cost to us in the long run! So if any alien is looking for intelligent life I would tell them not to stop at this planet as their clearly is none here!

Then the wildflowers bloomed without pollinators and didn't come back. Now only weeds survive. A once-thriving ecosystem is gone with little to break the silence but the wind. Rachel Carson's Silent Spring is deafening.

One HUGE problem we (or should I say) future generations will be faced with is our total inability to deal with the vast amount of nuclear waste we are producing, we are currently overwhelmed with THOUSANDS OF TONS of the stuff and we don't have a viable way of even storing the stuff, let alone safe disposal. Nuclear waste is a massive problem in many different ways, chiefly, that is is so very, very toxic to all organic life forms, we, as a species, evolved in the absence of many of the radionucleides that we are producing in our reactors, extremely toxic elements that never existed on this planet during our entire evolution, so we have no immunity to them we can't see, taste or smell them, this is why they are so incredibly lethal, and some of them stay lethal for HUDREDS OF THOUSANDS of years. The very first nuclear or atomic waste was produced in the 1940's it is still radioactive and we still haven't figured out a way of dealing with it, yet we continue to produce the stuff in epic proportions. In the wake of the Chernobyl and Fukushima disasters I am utterly astounded at our refusal to heed the warnings from these events, it exposed our complete inability to find a solution to a major nuclear accident, nuclear energy production is still in it's infancy, it is an immensely powerful thing and we don't fully understand the physics involved, but we are NOW learning the terrible price we, (or should I say) our children will have to pay, in our desperate quest for electrical energy.

In the developed world, we still consume more than countries where people have seven kids. What we need to do is start consuming resources in a more renewable fashion. Phase off of fossil fuels for example and start using, wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, etc. power is one example.

I watch these uploads because I tell myself to be informed. When It comes to the Elephants such an enigmatic and beautiful creature it breaks my heart and it aches for a long time afterwards. I simply couldn't do the job of trying to protect animals like this because I cant conceal what I feel and would be useless out on the continent seeing them butchered and murdered. These people who can do this are stronger than me and I admit I am not strong. I pass on the climate change reality at work and the fact we are indeed entering the 6th extinction event caused by human burning fossil fuels. I tell them every week so they see I'm serious and not just repeating a small section in the news paper. Am I doing enough? I don't know 'cause I'm only me out of 7 billion. I have small hopes but huge doubts that we will not change in time as the small window of time may already be here or have passed us by a decade ago. The uncertainty of all the possible outcomes is enough to make me sick as I need some stability and hope in my future and every human needs this too. I got a feeling this is only going to get worse and people will begin to loose their minds as the reality becomes more pervasive in their lives.
