- Did GM mess up?
Do you love your corvette stingray or Z06 hard top convertible, but think...I wish I could close my roof from the remote, just like I opened it?
or
I wish I could open and close my hard top convertible with one touch, just like my windows, because as it comes I have to sit there for a while holding the button, as it goes through the sequence of up or down?
Well now you can, thanks to Mods4Cars Smart Top Module.
Super easy to install, and works great!
Their customer service is great if you need them.
I mistakenly state is it is a “couple hundred bucks.” When in fact it is $495. But you can use the code JOE5 a to save 5%. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Had the chance to install this morning (I'm mechanically inept) took 25 Minutes - Love it! thanks again for the Video. Between you and Brink of Speed I got all the angles needed.
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. Feels good to grouped in with brink of speed. He knows his stuff!!!
I have a 21 and I did this mod about a year ago and I love it
That's awesome! I'm happy with mine so far as well. It's little things like this, that make a big difference...
Great video. The instructions were very clear
Thank you. I wanted it to be helpful.
Great video as always, but you say that unit costs a " couple of hundred bucks?" Not if you live in Canada like poor me. It's listed on the site for $499.00. The exchange for me in Canadian bucks is $673.00. Then add shipping. Possibly another 100 bucks. Then duty. More money. Then add our 13% taxes I'm closing in on a bit less than $1,000.00 I have gone through this ordering from the States on exhaust, and headers and high flow cats, and throttle body and throttle controller by Soler. Costs about double and then had to pay for labour. Living in Canada aint cheap. I still order parts even if the cost is ridiculous. LOL.
Wow.
This should have been already included with the car. Shame on Chevrolet.
Totally agree. I love mine
what about lifting the engine cover but leaving the top still down? OEM I believe is lock twice and then open. Does that still work?
It sure does. You can hit lock once then open and it will go into service mode.
Gen would never do this as they consider the manual hold a safety feature
I assume you mean GM…?
Safety is important
I am willing to take the risk. I love it.
It's ok, for ten seconds of my time it's no big deal to hold the button up or down.
Actually it’s about 16 seconds. And if you’re okay holding it, don’t get this product.
@@JoesGarage-c8corvetteeven longer to put the top up having to get in and start it up… this product is great just to be able to put the top up from outside the car if nothing else!
@@C8Jake exactly. I love mine for that and a few other reasons.
A lot of C8 owners will be interested in getting this module. Nice video.
Thanks man. I appreciate the feedback. Yes, they should be. To me it is worth it.
Being flirting with buying a convertible 2021-2023 Vette. For $200 totally would do it.
For 475 with my discount. I still think it’s worth every penny.
Cool. Guess I'll have to research to find the cost. Now I wish GM had included a built-in device to isolate a faulty HTC sensor!!! I got an error message "Top Not Secure" when in fact it really was, plus at that time a speed limiter comes into play. Fifty-eight mph is all you get with the top up. My dealer/service center had my car for nine days! No one there had a clue how to fix it! NINE DAYS! A call to GM was a waste of time. I got a case number, and that's all. I also got my car back dirty inside and out, plus scratches all over it. Earnhardt Chev, folks, in Arizona.
Wow that sucks!!! Sorry to hear that. I’m sure it’s something simple to fix. You may want to call chevy and ask for a corvette ONLY tech who can point you in the right direction. The scratches are so upsetting. I never allow them to wash my car either as they destroy paint!
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette U and BoS did the same thing at the end of the install. To install the Module the roof is up, and after the video cut away and come back the roof is down. What did U do in between that time? Thanks
@@SCODYMON1 I’m not sure what part you’re referring to. What min mark in the video?
That really sucks. I got a message after installing the Soler throttle controller that said the frunk wasn't closed. Even though it was . I opened and closed it a few times different ways but still got the error hood was open. So at a loss I disconnected the battery for a half hour and let the car discharge. Hooked it back up and the error went away. So if all else fails disconnect the battery before calling service. Will save you lots of money. Also sounds like they were using your car for a work bench. What the hell with the scratches. I would lose it.
@@kerrylittle3900 did you leave door open for about 10 min before disconnecting the pedal? A battery disconnect will solve many issues of that type.
I think I need to re program mine. I also have the clear engine cover and I like to just open the rear hatch (maintenance mode), but anytime I press the button, the entire top goes down.
Which button are you referring to? To go to service mode, lock then hold roof button on remote…
Chevy has this as it this way as it is a safety feature to have a dead man switch. Most convertibles are this way unless something has changed.
Understandable, but the windows aren’t that way for safety. Hence why I like this mod / way for my needs. To each their own! Thanks for the comment.
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette totally understand and really the big value in this mod is how well you can configure it. Just make sure that you have eyes on the cars during the process to cancel. I am guessing that pushing the unlock or lock again immediately stops the process. There are just lots of pinch points in there if a child or dumb adult decides to stick their hand in there. Stupid people are why we can’t have nice things.
@@kevinhacken9801 I totally agree. And yes pushing any button should stop it.
Yes people are stupid, but I’m a fan of Darwinism. Lol
@ 2:29 in the video you say it is a couple hundred dollars. thats not correct 500 dollars is the cost
That’s correct. I corrected that in the comments. When my wife asks how much that costs… “couple hundred bucks…” is my typical response. Lol
Use the code JOE5 to save $25 (5% off)
So if I go to a car show and have an enhancement under my hood/engine cover, how do I stop the top in mid deployment to show off the engine cover and under hood area?
Open toneau with service mode.
Lock button-then hold open button
The reason GM makes you hold on pushing the button is for safety and avoiding its liability.
They don’t make you do it for windows.
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette you can’t trap your fingers in the mechanism of the windows vs one can get finger or hand trap in the mechanism of a convertible hard top.
Needed mod, but I think I can spare 16 seconds and enjoy being in my car a tad bit longer.
Good discipline….
I checked the website and it’s $500 not $200.
No one said $200! I think it’s worth the $500. Hopefully I will get a discount code for my subscribers 🙏
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette listen to your video you said $200 no big deal just thought it was cheaper.
@@Corvette315I went back through it, and you’re right… I mistakenly said a “couple hundred dollars.”
Well it’s about $500. I’m working to get a discount code to share with my subscribers, so hopefully that will help.
No problem Joe

Yeah man. Fi hunded
Excellent. I have not purchased this because I thought it was complicated. Take my $$$!
It’s not hard at all. Just make sure you put the wires in the right spot. It’s plug and play. I think it’s a great way to maximize the HTC and windows. I love it.
How much is cost to do that I just got my 2021 stingray new
About $475 if you use the code JOE5
Otherwise it’s about $500
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette it only took $24.95 off
@@cedriccole6003 better than nothing
@@JoesGarage-c8corvettewasn’t complaining just making you aware it wasn’t taking $50 off. Good video btw

Mine just arrived - can hardly wait to install - thanks for the very well done Video!
You’re very welcome and I think you’re gonna love it. I do, and so does everyone that has installed it.
I’m stuck on this one Joe. Mine is a 2020. I can’t unconnected the factory connection to plug in the new one. Help😢
There should be a release tab. Press and wiggle it carefully until it comes out.
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette Tried that with a friend and neither one of us could get this darn factory plug out. There is a red tab that pulls out and a small black tab in front of it that we pushed down. Would not budge. I put the harness together and that small black tab goes in and clicks to stay in place. The factory one doesn’t click. But not matter what we tried it would not release. Oh well I have a good mechanic. Maybe he has some trick to get it out. I was afraid of wrecking the harness to try any longer and not have my roof work at all.
@@kerrylittle3900 yeah. I would be careful. Sometimes a small screwdriver along the edge to help pry it out may work. Carefully.
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette yes I don’t want to damage it for sure. Thanks for all the replies and help Joe. You are awesome
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette My mechanic got the clip to release. He said they are a different clip than the later models. So all good now. He did the whole install. Said it was the first one he ever did and thought it was pretty cool. Thanks for all your help. Glad I subscribed to you. You do great detailed videos.
Nice! More switches and relays for a complicated car. 😂
Pretty much! But it works well and solves a problem/fills a need. I am happy with mine so far...
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette Sure does. WTH GM?
@@WBSoCal my thoughts exactly.
Did the price just go up? It's $500 now.
See comments above. It is $500. Use my code to save some money.
Joe, I do have a question for you and any of your followers. I have a 24 C8 HTC Z51, with less than 1600 miles. Twice, I’ve washed it and twice I’ve had a “service side detection system”. Later, everything seems to be working. Anyone else have this issue?
That’s a first I’ve heard of such a warning… if you have an obd2 reader, you may wanna see what it shows. I have a FIXD and it works great.
What happens if you accidentally hit the roof down button when doing 50 mph down the road?
It won’t allow it to open over 30 mph. Same safety feature as bone stock.
will it still allow use of the "service" mode? You know, just the engine cover comes up... but the roof stays in place?
Yes it does. I checked that myself as it is important for maintenance as well as showing off the engine bay.
Great product. I agree, GM goofed up a bit .
I’m sure there is a reason. I am unsure what it is. Thankfully this product fixed it.
Unfortunately stupid people make these features not available as they would hurt themselves and then sue. Common sense is not common these days.
i ordered one today. .. now i just need to buy the car.
Ha. Gotta start somewhere.
USE THE PROMO CODE JOE5 to save 5% off your order!!!
Cool mod, but there goes your warranty for the convertible, I wouldn’t do it till my car was paid off
Really? Yikes. It’s sooooo great to have though.
As long as you can open the tonneau, it can be removed easily. To do so, I needs to be unlatched, then slowly and easily pushed up by hand.
Why didn't u use service mode.??
Use service mode for what part?
Don't want to get "buttonitis" god forbid.
That’s right. It’s a serious condition that can be easily avoided. Lol
Can you still stop the lid half way to work on the motor.
Yes you can. Service mode is preferred for engine work.
Just ordered mine, because of this video. Thanks.
That’s awesome. I think you’ll love it.
You are too spoiled.
I work hard for my spoils. And enjoy them all.
Got one as soon as released and it's a must have
Yep. I’m surprised GM didn’t make them this way!
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette As with GM it's always about keeping the costs down. They nickel and dime us and when ordering a C8 pretty much everything you want is an option you pay for. But yeah I wish they did put one in and pay for that option.
@@kerrylittle3900 I agree.
Great job. Thanks for going step by step for us
My pleasure. Thanks for the feedback
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette I have a new C8 Z06 HTC from MacMulkin that should be here in 6-8 weeks and I'm trying to figure out what stuff I won't be able to live without. I'm still on the fence about this. We'll see how annoying it actually is for me.
@@Corvette.Ronnie not a must, but I feel it is worth it. I love being able to open and CLOSE the htc from the remote, as well as one touch up and down. I love mine.
I’m definitely doing this
That's awesome. I am really glad I did it too. Works great, and I am not sure why GM did not design it this way. Luckily we have the option to make it OUR way!
will it stop when something is caught in the mechanism or a hand is in the way? i wouldn't do it, you could press the button by mistake.
It should function no differently than stock.
You have to push the button 3x on second apart. How would you do that by mistake?
@@JoesGarage-c8corvette i meant from inside the C8. You pull the switch only once, correct?
@@nishali3343 correct. But how would you get your hand caught? You still have one free hand even if you were holding the button.
