This was an awesome experience, thanks kAN, can’t wait for next time! Now, I best be getting back to modeling for awhile so next time I’ll have a new model in-game to show you. 👀 P.S. Don’t do skybridges kids.
Sorry, but there is already a weird skybridge on my game out of the coal mine... I got a bit fed up finding a way down so I spent the effort fighting the build system to make it work...
It's worth it. After you get through the initial learning curve of the basics, it becomes very rewarding. I'm still on my first play through but I'm ready to start a map over to reapply what I currently know and rebuild it better. The overall community seems very supportive as well between offering suggestions and answering questions and most content creators (including devs) seem very willing to interact with the comment section
This is why my software guys hate me... so the bridge starts out yellow, because it's fresh wood (leaving the creosote out for now) but over time it would age to change color and get darker to a sunbleached grey. Actually if you did do creosote, it would start black and work it's way kinda to the same washed out grey...

I restarted my world and decided to lay ALL the track between the Logging Camp and Sawmill, as well as the connection to head towards the Smelter and Ironworks. I added my own Yard and other stuff. I’ve been making sure it’s Super functional and to my liking. Tbh, I’ve been enjoying it more because when I run a train, it’ll be the ideal route
I used to play the hell out of Chris Sawyer's Locomotion, which you were a transportation company that had to build up the transport industry with trains, boats, trucks, and planes. I sadly don't have the game anymore, but I absolutely loved it. This game reminds me so much of Locomotion which just adds to the experience.
@Devs: Could you pls ad a Chatfunktion where you can also see when a player join the session and could also ad a Kickfunction/Banfunction? I had some players which has griefed the shoppoint while I layer some tracks ( it has took ~40 minutes to clear it) Maybe adding a Markfunction also with colors to see if a player got kicked often
I love how realistic this game is and I hope it gets more realistic, but I hope that there will always be options for a simpler gameplay experience. The only reason I haven't bought the game yet is how tedious the build system is, I know its realistic, but I just want to design the track and drive the trains. Keep up the good work kan and devs.
BTW, the route up to the mine would be a flood plain. Virtually the entire valley floor would be covered in water. I grew up by the Humber River Valley system around Toronto. I remember seeing this little river you could walk over without getting your knees wet during the summer completely flood out a valley bigger than the one in the game with every spring thaw
i just got the point of free riding gravity tracks. its for when your gravity track starts uphill from your loading zone. example. You bring 20 empty carts up to the mine. you fill the cars 4 at the time (because your train can't pull more) and pull that up to the start of the gravity track. You release the cars and then repeated this 5 more times before taking the train back down. than you take up all 20 carts (and the brakeman ) back up.
I grew up near the Tunkhannock Viaduct, a nearly half-mile-long concrete arch train bridge that's 240 feet tall at its highest point. The supports dwarf the houses they're located next to at one point in the crossing. Definitely worth doing an image search for some pics of it (there's also a wikipedia article on it too).
@IstasPumaNevada That sounds like the Hwy 53 bridge in Northern Minnesota, 200+ foot tall. It's not an arch and it's no fun when the weather is bad as salt can't be used in the area, a town gets it's drinking water from the open pit. It is an active blast area next to the highway, makes for a fun time for sure on blast days.
the Lamps are both for Classification and to denote if the Train is running in more than one piece or Section. seeing a more modular setup for building bridges would be handy. not just bents but also piers for crossing larger gaps with bigger spans. Plate Girder for fairly simple crossings Truss spans for larger gaps especially for crossing rivers.
Hey, Kan! Love the content! It is really interesting how you got that well in contact with the developers and it's great to see the Loco community that active. So, a good question would be if there'd be a switchman's hut or switchman's mechanism, that let's you set the switches on a certain area, like shunt yard huts etc.
Kan I’ve watched your railroad online series for a while but could you continue your Derail Valley series? There is a lot more things to do and collect in it such as the caboose, pump car, pocket watch, boombox and not forgetting the larger diesel and Steam locomotive and the map is very extensive as well.
An issue with bridge building is having debris jam under the bridge during a flood or high water. Aside from damage to the bridge, it can create a dam that causes the water to build up to the ends of the bridge and wash out the footings and approaches to the bridge, while the bridge itself is left standing. That can and has happened with bridges right up to recently.
We germans have an interesting brick bridge for railroads, the "Göltzsch Viaduct" - it's the largest brick bridge in the world and is in service since 170 years
We have some really amazing stone ones in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania that are 2-3 track wide and still in service today... no idea the height, but you'd definitely be a red stain if you fell off it.
Laying track and re-laying track is all I have been doing for like the last 10 hours of play. Just when I get it how I think I want it I discover a better route or discover I missed putting in a wye where one should have been put to start with.
Yard kicking is really fun in game. Just got to be fast on switched and end all yard rails with 10 slops going up so the cars come back if that over shoot. But its really fun.
Would love to know when cuts are coming to the game. Seems like I often came to a spot where I had to make a huge bridge because I couldn't blast 5 cubic yards of rock.
Yeah a cut feature would really be nice, as well as a tunnel... More reasons for developers to hate me... make the cut material have to be used as a fill somewhere else in the game...
After seeing your coal line. The world I play on hugs the one side and then crosses over. I like yours better. When I redo the WHOLE WORLD sometime later this year. I will make more of a straight line. Assuming the maps are unchanged.
I’m wondering for the deves, for one of the industry’s have they considered making a pulley lift to transport cars up to an industry that the train can’t go. Like as full cars go down the hill they pull up the empty cars to get filled.
Will there be a chance for emergency breaks for trains, because there is nothing more satisfying than watching wheels come to a complete halt and the train keeps going a little longer

The truss bridges need a weathered look. Greys and dark browns. That would look more realistic.
Well. How would a just built bridge be weathered?
That's the reason I prefer to use the normal rails over bridges, I dislike that yellow colour
