우리나라 제주및 광주광역시에 자생하며, 중국 남부, 일본 중부 이남 등에 분포한다.
잎몸의 우축 및 소우축의 뒷면에 붙는 비늘조각이 기부가 주머니처럼 부푸는 그룹 중, 유일하게 1회 깃꼴겹잎으로 다른 유사종과 구별된다.
낮은 산지 숲속에서 상록성 여러해살이풀로 매우 드물게 자라는 남방계 양치식물이다.
