Am I glad that up here in Canada when an uninsured/unregistered car comes in we have what are called RepairMan plates that are issued to the shop, think a dealer plate that you can test drive a car on but to use a Repairman plate you have got to be employed by the shop that holds the plate...allows us to drive any car or light truck on the road whether it's got plates on it or not, legally.

The reason we turn down cars like this to "sit in" is all that crap growing in there can make us sick. If we get sick we can't work, can't work no pay, we don't get a salary, sick days, or pto. Hell, we don't even get paid hourly to clean out a bad car that is filled to the brim with trash. The customer wouldn't want to pay us labor to clean out their dirty nasty car so why should we have to. That being said I would be perfectly ok helping this customer out but I would at least try to clean the steering wheel off etc with something and I would be wearing a mask and gloves. Just giving insight to what goes through our heads as non-hourly non-salary workers.

Good man. You made that customer's day. You could tell it was sitting for a long time by all of the mold inside. It would appear that a few tweaks would get that car in good shape. I will chalk it up to a lack of funds for the car's condition, but there were a few things that were not how they should have been. DIYers have to be meticulous!

What's more concerning and quite serious, is driving around with all that mold... especially with kids. Mold is a biohazard and any reputable detailer will not touch it unless they are a mold remediator because even when it looks like it's gone, it'll come back unless it's treated correctly.

@@TheRealMrRoyalme as well. I’ve only bought Hondas since 95 now, they have all been great. I currently have a near mint 01 5 speed Prelude sitting in my garage that I only drive a few days a year,I’ve had it for twenty years now. I daily drive a ‘14 civic coupe and my wife drives a nice 05 TL. I have a 92 Civic Si hatchback with a tired engine that I haven’t driven in 4 years but I just can’t part it out or get rid of because they are such good cars,I’m not sure if I want to put a bunch of money into fixing rust and paint,if it just needed an engine,no problem but with the cost of bodywork nowadays,it is stalling me. Usually they have no Tag, bad gas, fuel system contaminated and animal nests in them. Sadly they need so much work, starting with why they were parked. Then sitting time makes it worse. Most after a $4000 estimate usually get towed back home or to salvage.

Royalty auto service do you have an ozone generator? Sitting it in the parking lot and running and ozone generator for the day snd overnight would probably kill all the mold and make it safe to sit in to work on.
They probably have a ton of other problems with the car. It seems like they have not been taking care of it.
I’m surprised the cop was very reasonable and compassionate for the owner. It makes sense that it’s better to have a car fixed snd driving around rather than driving around with who knows what wrong with it.
The owner said they’re a mechanic????? Sounds surprising given the state of it.

With a car like that, the customer should just be content it runs at all and run it until it pops and call it a day.
