Like anything you have to keep up with it.
Kids can actually learn a lot. I just started learning the dulcimer last year and I thought I was doing pretty good until I heard the kids that started learning around the same time as me.
Lol. It’s amazing but kids have an ability to learn so much faster. That stage of life when the brain is growing and developing. The kids hadn’t even practiced as much but can still play better and pick it up so quickly.
Likewise I am doing better than the older people, even though they’ve played for years and I’ve only played on and off for a few months.
Learning when you’re young is best.
It’s really cool when a kid actually does take some time to focus on something. They really can achieve a lot.

Japan culture is to hide their true feelings in public
we once stayed in Kyoto old town, and a fire broke out in our street threatening multiple connected wooden houses
we stood at the intersection and a crowd of locals gathered watching the fire - all with VERY sad expressions on their face
this made such an impression on me I asked a young local female standing beside me - so sympathetic ?
she said 'they don't care - they're just putting on the public face'

Kind of reminds me the time Tachibana SHS band performed at the Grand Hotel in Taipei, one member checks out a drum then puts it on and acts like she doesn’t know how to play it, then after a few beats she starts playing it, then the other members join her for a performance. Was pretty funny at the start and was an outstanding performance.
