The Green Hornet is a fictional masked crime-fighter created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker, who also co-created the Lone Ranger. The character first appeared in a radio series that debuted on January 31, 1936, on WXYZ radio in Detroit. The Green Hornet was one of the most popular radio series of the 1930s and 1940s. The story revolves around Britt Reid, a wealthy newspaper publisher by day and a masked vigilante by night. Reid is the owner and publisher of "The Daily Sentinel," a major city newspaper. In his role as the Green Hornet, he uses his dual identity to fight crime from both sides of the law, often infiltrating the criminal underworld to bring down organized crime rings from within. He is assisted by his loyal and skilled partner, Kato, a martial artist and inventor who drives their technologically advanced car, the "Black Beauty."
