For me, Robben is so damned amazing becasue he really is just dong his own thing. Is it technically amazing? Damn right it is.But, just like Jimi and Stevie, what I hear is him, his own way. He has to love making that perfect sound, he always smiling to himself. I swear I keep hearing more in it every year, more dynamics, tone, phrasing, expression. He's tricky, he is a peaceful, soft spoken man, As a guitarist the best way to describe it is, "He is whispering so loudly" His playing is like that "he whispers the most amazing stuff". I truly believe that Robin is one of the best of our time.
Never at a loss for feel, Robbens been at this game for so many years it's just like breathing to him and like being breathless to us. I first heard him with his brothers back in 72 & been listening to his work ever since. They don't come much better..
No artist wants to hear he did his best work years ago, but in this case, I think you only only get to create such a unique and wonderful piece so seldom that you celebrate that it happened any time in your career...I hope that's how Robben feels about this song.
Sense of music,,, the little things,,the pauses,, the choice of tones,,When you tells a story, and this particually day you want to tell it your best,, adding some new details,, people are listening, and you knows it,,so,,,, you give it your best. Lets hear Satriani, Vai, or other technicplayers,, do this.he he he
+pbstratocaster Please don't make it seem like Vai and Satriani don't know about composition, phrasing and tone. They play very differently and have dominant rock distortion traits but Vai's "the boy from Seattle" is pretty classy and Satriani has a bunch of smooth instrumentals but don't ask them to play Robben's way...to each his own you know? No need for comparisons. I know what you mean though. Robben's tunes definitely feel more melodic. It reminds me a lot of some of Eric Johnson's touches, even the tone. Great great tune this one is :) peace

+papapetad Never made any comparisons as such. Only giving credit to this Robben Ford tune. ( even his playing sometimes gets boring coz its always so "correct". I like some of Vai´s Things ( The boy from Seattle" - "Frank" - etc ). Great technique, good ideas and so on, but not the rare rare feeling. ( Satriani has never impressed me. Think he´s perfect for pedal demoes, but thats it ). They´re all good,,, Hendrix was a genious. Happy New year.
I think Satriani is more melodic than Vai. Vai's a bit too abstract for me and a bit of a tart....Still we are all here for great guitars and that's what we got. Love this tune, its perfect !
One of the most BEAUTIFUL instrumentals of all time! I never get tired of hearing this song. I love Robben Ford. ❤
Great road tune to sunset!

Listen to that tone at the 4:16 mark, sharp as a razor. He amazes me how he controls his dynamics from sweet and soft to cutting and searing tone.
One of his better compositions!!!
Through and through, one of my most favorite artists!!!

Who's on the Fender Piano?
Eric who?
de los mejores comunicadores del blues en la guitarra. Thanks Robben
Haha! Very true.
Johnson, is it?
All of Clapton's solos sound the same. Robben has such an array of different sounds.
john mayer copied this on 'Man On The Side'. both fantastic tunes however.
