Am I the only one that wanted to slap the sister into next week??? Great movie! I loved every minute of it..being raised by a single mom in a very similar circumstance I completely relate. Single Moms have to be and do everything…they are often over worked, over looked and under appreciated! they are the greatest of Gods angels on earth❤❤
I agree with you. My mom worked so hard. Your comment made me laugh and cry at the same time. My mom used to say I'll knock you into next Tuesday. She died in 1984, and I still miss her every day.
Good Lord. She barely had a chance to grow up, make something of herself, be free, and enjoy herself. She makes one mistake and has fun just one time and it alters her life forever. Is just an example of how easily and quickly things can change and how just one mistake can make all the difference.
Thank you so much for this. It's very rare. I finally found it on VHS for $40, but my VCR needs repair. A real collector's item; it's nearly impossible to find at any price. It's my story, as a mother, and I cried all the way through it. Except I never told my daughter that I wish she hadn't been born.
My mommy said she didn't want me. She said no one was ever going to understand what happened to me in the '70s and no one was ever going to marry me and my mom said I am a disabled woman 😥. She said I'm her best friend. She said she was sorry. I miss my mom.
Lilly was so emotional and put too much pressure on her daughter. Her daughter wanted to be around her, even after marriage. Lilly was so annoying how she indirectly kept pushing her daughter away. Irene was such a sweet daughter. With all that being said, I really liked this old movie!☺
Butchered is a strong word, abortion is very sad, the same as American children being shot and murdered in school, you can never call yourself pro life, if you only talk about abortion and not school shootings, , it's Ike stopping a mother from having an abortion, and a few years later, that same child gets shot and murdered at school, ,the biggest killer of all American children is school shootings fact,
Movie is n '48 but 20yrs latr, we also married the guy evn if didnt love him. At that time, thats what we did. It was destined to end n divorce....only 4yrs latr.
Very good movie with an excellent performance by Tuesday Weld. At 37 years old she looked like a teenager and progressed to 50ish so well. The music didn't fit the time span but I guess this was Harry Chapin's female version of "The Cat's in the Cradle". The rest of the cast did a fine job with a special note to the actress that so convincingly played Marie. Lillie should have clocked her. It was nice to see a woman's movie that didn't depict that all females are victims and all men are pigs.
I remember watching this on TV-I was 30 with 2 kids but I thought it was kind of behind the times. When I was 16 and wanted to have sex I went to get birth control pills. Roe vs Wade hadn't been passed yet. I was so glad when women finally had a choice and now after 50 years we are going backwards. Good movie-thanks for putting it up. My Mom had my older brother as a teenager.

weird thing is I saw this before my adoptive mommy who was my biological sister just a few hours prior to her death. she passed away on Monday march 25 2019
This movie has a pro-life slant for some reason, but news flash you dingus: abortion has existed since the beginning of time, and will continue to exist as long as humans walk upon the Earth. So knock it off with the willful ignorance, you ding-dong.
@@gravytopic Nah, OP is making a snarky comment about that line from the movie insinuating that the line was true then but now it isn't, as though abortion is an invention of the modern day woman on the go. That was my interpretation at least. But, sticking to that interpretation, yeah the idea that women shouldn't do that from a moral stand point is very much alive and well in modern cinema and culture, since as anyone not living under a rock knows this issue is now more than any other time in my 30+ years of life at the forefront of the discussion of women's issues. I mean, follow the news much? So you are just totally wrong here. Also, (and I know you know this, jackass), "lighten up" is exclusively used to demean, condescend, and undermine other people when trying to derail a conversation like you are here, and I'm not having it. So take you're wrongness and your man-shenanigans elsewhere. I'm done here.
well, there were no smartphones,no computer, 0 internet, ..what a fuck?? life does not change at all, keep been the same assholes full of prejudices, two_faced morality
I think among all the human relations, the mother daughter relationship is the most difficult and complicated one because it usually creates one of the most intimate and intense bondings among 2 females or ladies. And it becomes more complex and challenging relation when a biological mother denies her motherhood to a great extent which happened with me. My extremely selfish biological mother made my life miserable by her sick romanticism. She never loved me and left me. I loved her the most in this world when I was a child but now I hate her and wish to be free from the identity of being her daughter legally otherwise I won't be able to die in peace and I pray for justice to the Divine Mother.
Thank ypu for posting this exquisite movie of deepest emotions. Can't believe I never heard of it before. I hope many see it.
The grandmother was so loving and caring , they were lucky to have her in their lives
Glad she found someone to love her too!!
Frankly that daughter was very selfish!!!
Thanks for sharing this moving movie 👏👏👏
I loved this movie. Such love between all involved. TW is very beautiful.
Except that ratchet sister of Lilys…couldn’t stand her pompous holier than thou attitude towards her sister! Blessings❤

@@thehashearthasheart7146 Wow. Probably for the Harry Chapin collectors, plus the fact that it was a "made for TV" movie.

The music 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫

I wish a lot of parents to think and act like Lilly 's mother. So many girls would not butchered in the past.

Frances Sternhagen actually matches up very well as Tuesday Weld's mom (who would have thought?)
Frances went to my Church every Sunday. I didnt realize who she was until I saw her in Sex and the City. 😂
I envy him for kissing Tuesday Weld. What a doll.
Once a month he will come back to her. She will have another child. No man.
I am glad Richie married her to save this family reputation.
