In the Federal park / nature preserve, on the southwest end of Lake St-Francis (Quebec), there are some numerous deep-water channels among the 1000 or so hectares of swamp. The muskelunge like to linger at a drop-off, to the deep water, to ambush other fish, ducklings, frogs, small mammals (muskrat, fishers), etc. At one time, the local government biologist was called out to the preserve to investigate the presence of a very large snapping turtle laying her eggs (apparently the shell alone was 2.5 feet long!). During the biologist's visit, was queried about how big a muskie could grow? Without hesitation, he said 6 feet! Something to think about...
Oohh man, sounds like paradise to me :)), yea muskies can grow much biger than Pikes, pikes can grow to abt 1,5 m, but in rare circumstances even bigger to abt 30 kg.
@@kristers21What's the difference between a muskie and a pike? In Sweden we have northern pike, which can grow pretty large. It's not too uncommon that people catch northern pike with a length of 1,3 (even 1,5) meters and a weight of 15 to as much as 20 kg. I think the record is like 25 kg here.
Pike and muskie are both predatory freshwater fish known for their aggressive behavior and elongated bodies. One key difference lies in their scientific classification, with pike belonging to the Esox genus and muskie to the Esox genus as well, but a different species. Pike typically have a distinctive pattern of spots and stripes on a lighter background, whereas muskie often have a more mottled appearance with irregular markings. Additionally, muskie tend to grow larger and can reach substantial lengths compared to most pike species.@@mattiassvanberg8292
Amazing, I never could get that close while diving. I always saw where they was by the dust cloud on the bottom. Certainly more skittish than the bold smallies. I'd sit on the deep edge of the weedbed with nitecrawlers in a zip lock. Great afternoon feeding bass.

Crocodile fish are aggressive sometimes, and they do bite, and their pricey for their tasty flesh and is known to be fished out on rivers, best time to fish them is when the river get thinner or less dense, and you need a strong rod.

A respectful sized fish but wait until you meet Uncle Muskie.
Is he one of the 3 Muskeyteers?
@@privatepilot4064good one 😂

Not sure why but I find this video both amazing and horrifying.
Yeah, looks like the beginning of a horror movie.
Looks like a dragon sleeping in a bamboo forest
I thought it was a small pike.

Thanks 👍
Its a muskee, muskees dont attack people.
@@asnd..8349sure they do
My father called Muskie a “ mossback,” because they would sit like that for a very long time.
That is a beautiful fish in a beautiful setting.
That speed! Great video dude!
I didn't think it could move that fast. Omg
He shot out of there like a cannon 😂
"He can't see me, he can't see me, ok, he definitely sees me..."
Man is lucky the fish did not attack him with that blistering speed!
No I don't think so, it would be like a blue gill attacking a northern. Monster won't bite off more than they can chew
When I saw the name of the video then saw it was underwater, I knew I was going to see a big pike.
It was read as pig bike. Sorry 😂😂😂
A nickname for these things in these parts is "slough shark"
Very apt
Plot twist, those are trees around him and it is a forest that is flooded
So close ! Absolutely excellent video !!
Reminds me of the underwater pond scene from the animated Sword in the Stone movie :)
That movie, and that scene, are the bomb

Not really… maybe a freshwater perch.
No Hook would be big enough for this beauty.

Amazing video👍👍👍
He was like "c'mon men who tf are you"
Man at first I thought it was a dead horse underwater.
I saw one that big when I was a kid, I remember my dad trying to catch and his knees shaking
That speed geez
Dipped a GoPro under water, nice👍
That's why murky water is a big NOPE
He was looking kinda crabby
Wow that's good shot...How you manage to make that video respect
That thing scared the bejesus outta me. Yikes!
Cool video! Muskies are freshwater predators!

In Britain they used to be shot with .303 lee Enfield rifles, not the image people think of Britain as..

Bro didn’t take a chance, he was gone.😂

What is the size of that thing?
I cant see anything to get a reference against.
Ominous footage. What an experience👍
In length abt 1 m!
You should let sleeping monsters lie!

Pike are the main predator in European river because the 🐊 does not exist there except at the zoo
That was awsome
Fearless monster left its tail behind in a real hurry. 🤦🏻♂️
