I’ve done an engine swap on a Clio 182 on a driveway as well, and this 16-minute video really doesn’t do justice to the sheer amount of work involved or how little space you have to work with on these cars. Massive respect for tackling it!
Renaults aren't bad, wait until you start working on JLR stuff. I always find it funny when people complain about working on french cars. My RS 265 is a breeze to work on compared to Land Rovers lol
@bleachyunknown2000 Megane is fine ti work on, decent room and decent oem parts still available, and at least you have space on the JLR stuff. The cluo is genuinely diabolical, the parts are all made of fucking camembert too and cost 3x what they used to cause renault no longer supports the mk2 clios.
@ett_baer Will completely skipped over how difficult it is to drop the engine in from the top. The width of the engine with the gearbox attached is literally the width from strut tower to strut tower. It's agonising getting the positioning just right to sit it back on its mounts.
You guys, Edwin + Ethan as well as Alex are smashing it.. So glad I can now see you all on 3 different channels as opposed to that one defunct thing. Keep it up!
'I was having a meltdown' welcome to Renault ownership 😂 Love this raw honest type of video, more of this & not the over edited nonsense please. You lads at TDC are doing a great job, keep up the awesome work 👍
Really nice to actually see some nitty gritty work being done and filmed. More please! Maybe a holiday to Scotland to help a poor lass restore her 2006 TT? 😂
I love it! You guys are just the best! Regular uploading on the main channel, your delivery is excellent, and just all round great content! This is the kind of thing I would love to do and your approach is so helpful in making the car world accessible. Thank you!!
I was worried about the valve stem seals when the manifold came off but was very relieved to see a refurb head go on. 👍🏻 Well done Will & team, really enjoying the content of the channel. ❤ P.s. Original Engine = Race Engine Build 🙂
“Please excuse the mess, I’ve been having a meltdown” same Will, same lol Also love this kind of video. Really enjoyed watching you work through the process!
Were just about to write that not installing a new gasket, bolts and going over the seals is a very bad idea. Were happy to learn that you came to your senses just a few seconds later 😂
Nice one Will, pleasant suprise to watch this. Friend of mine had one of these 182's here as a daily in Australia. Went great for ages, electrics started to play up but the engine was strong.
Great content Will. Proper car content, these jobs are daunting if you haven’t done them before but with patience and as long as you’re happy to get stuck in they’re really satisfying. 👏🏼👍🏻
I was wondering the same thing. Was saying to the missus that on fresh engine builds, assembly lube would be used, but even oil between the cam/bearings etc would've been a good thing to do, surely.
This kind of car work is way beyond my own skill level (not to mention the time, space and tool requirements), yet the presentation was so good I was easily able to follow along and understand everything. Excellent work! 👏
Excellent video Love seeing things like this These should definitely be main Chanel videos once in a while I like the fun ones but the actual videos when you go into real detail are great too
That was a great video. Loved the way it was just you and the camera and a engine . More like this please. 💪💪💪. Ps - This should have been on the main channel
Atleast you lot are doing some proper mechanical work, even though you don’t have a lot of experience like most backyard mechanics you are still giving it a go 👍👍.
Hey Will, nice one for showing this kind of work to the world. You always open yourself up for criticism when showing this kind of content as everyone has their own ideas. At the risk of conforming to that… I’ll ask something as opposed to criticise; there didn’t look to be any assembly lube on the cam journals or the lobes? I really hope you did put some on and it just wasn’t evident in the video. The camshaft is one of the most stressed parts in the whole engine, so assembly line is key prior to a first start. The camshaft are the last bits to see oil pressure. Hope you get it all back on the road ASAP 👍
so the reason i was saying i like tdc and and less enthused with autoalex vs say oh a certain e28 welder is because you actually do the work. you know what josh doesn't really do? engines. you know what you don't do? welding. you see my point i hope. love this car. im living through your poor choices thank you :D
All these "incomplete" videos, where's the test drive? Starts doesn't mean drives, i appreciate it wasn't typical we got this car and bought some parts wach our next video to see what hapends. Most so-called series could be put in one longer video. I don't mind waiting a bit until you get it edited. Otherwise, great video keep it up
Since the autoalex drama its really refreshing to see this type of video... much better than buying an old bmw having someone else fix it and call it "content"
@@KoVLibertyTurns out Taylor allegedly didn't get his way (meaning free or extremely cheap work), leading him to lash out at the shop in a podcast. Said shop then made a detailed video on RUclips providing evidence of his communication with Taylor. Let's just say that it isn't a good look on Taylor's side...
Instead of buying a whole new engine, I would’ve checked the head gasket first because that can cause you to have oil getting in your combustion chambers if you have a blown head gasket
And this, Ladies and Gentlemen is how you end up with multiple engines for one car. I have not had a Volvo in 10 Years but i still have a Turbo block and pistons and rods in the garage.
Yeah, nothing more rewarding then rebuilding an engine and having it run perfectly. Nice job!! Just curious: I used globs of lube on the rotating bits before install, any reason you didn't?
Dry camshaft spinning up its bearings... No assembly lube used, or could have turned the engine over with pugs out to get oil up to head...instead of just starting it.
I know you've been through the ringer with this, you keep saying on the podcast, but it would be shame to give up on this now. And it will be epic once it's all buttoned up with that engine work
Most relatable bit for me was right at the end. "Right, I'm calling that a success; oh I need a pee...." Glad I'm not the only one that gets so engrossed in projects that my brain stops paying attention to bodily functions.... Haha😂
Love the content, just had a question, why buy the new engine if you're just gonna strip it down. The old engine might just have been a head gasket, which you did on the new engine. Doesn't make sense to buy an engine to do loads of work, that would likely have fixed the original. Only wondering that's all. Keep up the good content
Word of advice Will… change the bonnet latch on the Clio. They’re common for failure when they get rusty and they’re cheap enough to replace just for the sake of it.
MORE of this, love the go pro perspective. Teardown and rebuild, appreciate its long winded and somewhat niche to do/record, but I for one absolutely love it (and I think Renaults are shit) :D
Fell in love with my black gold 182 back in 04 had to wait till dealer demo had done 4k miles as one of first few in county at the time was 13k I loved it that much I had a silver one and a orange one lol my abarth is good but it's not a 182;

Enjoyed that 🙏❤
Mat and TDC collab when?
Omg yes. Please collab!
Nah we need a mat and TDC collab 😮
Would love to see a TDC and Mat collab.
Why is this a second channel video? This is the stuff we want to see lol. It can totally be a first channel video!
Great video but the poduction quality isnt main channel worthy. Perfect for 2DC
Production quality I guess, it feels a bit more "loose". It's pretty sick we get both
But you are seeing it ?
Agreed.
Their personal cars go on second channel.
Fix collapsing garage ❌
Install freshly rebuilt engine ✅
This man has his priorities straight
Modify before fixing right??
Did the roof fall in on him while he was working? No it did not, the correct choice was made that day.
Next video you should try to see what went wrong on the old engine
I also like the postmortem tear down videos. Taking stuff apart is also easier when you don't care about putting it back together!
piston rings or valve stem seals
