I think it would've been more appropriate if Terra Burst was called Earthquake and did Strength-based Earth damage instead of Magic-based (which obviously means that Vetala would need Charge instead of Concentrate). Bonus points if this would've triggered his Physical attack animation (as does Body Rush) instead of his magic-casting one (as does Concentrate, which again would be Charge in this scenario).
@@PebblepantsTV Not quite sure if it's a solid +5 to all for anyone who mastered the entire Mantra grid in the previous game, or if the boosts scale depending on percentage of grid completion (maxing out at +5 to all). But they're there.
I was watching this and then, in the last turn, I was just "??? No way he's gonna do this in this challenge". Checked description. "Yep, he will". You're just freaking insane and that's why I love you.
I never really noticed this before in other SMT, but it seems like enemies in this game are more likely to attack the character with the most HP? Can someone confirm this or am I going mad? Feels like a small mercy in an otherwise unforgiving run
Yes, they'll focus on the character with the highest VIT but some enemies/bosses will retaliate characters that exploit their weakness immediately and try to eliminate them as fast as they can (Looking at you, Seth) and the rarest cases will punish your entire party if you screw up too much (like hitting them with a magic they repel).
That... seems plausible? Though I wouldn't doubt that specific enemies or bosses might have their own targeting priorities. Something like "Highest HP, unless I am certain that I can get a kill, or score an extra turn" would seem reasonable, but I think Vetala would have killed your other party members if it hit them, so I dunno? I know some games prioritize attack power among possible targets, so that's another possibility. It's always such a cool feeling to figure out targeting in a game, makes you feel like you can do anything.
A low level, hard challenge on 2020. It's great, although I can imagine the RNG and things like that. DDS2 Heroic battle soundtrack whenever it plays on a battle just perfect, my favorite.
Also I played both of these games and don't understand the combo mechanic. For me, the main point of it was to get certain skills earlier (most notably Debilitate/Dekaja/Dekunda) because of how relatively lategame they were. Don't the shots perform well early game but fall off hard lategame? I might be misremembering but I swear using up multiple press turns to use a severe magic skill was worse than having two partners use two individual moves, and since team attacks only use the stat of the initiator you can't have two magic users combine for greater damage. I hope I'm just underselling the mechanic because I found it and transformation to be extremely limited despite how cool they were. At most I used combos for said certain support skills or to kill mobs so I found it mostly underwhelming. Granted this run makes the whole "use certain big moves earlier" aspect a whole lot more meaningful.
You're not wrong, the benefit of combos is largely their ease of access (e.g. Earth Shot with the best bullet available at the time is roughly the same damage as using Tera twice, but available immediately without teaching 2 characters Tera) and even then they are generally only worth using if exploiting a weakness. They'll be useful in this run but aren't in general play. There should've been more unique combos like Charge (which in fairness is essential lategame with the Synchro Ring) I think if transform/revert used a half press turn by default instead of a full one it would have more use also. Although that would make the Protect Ring very broken. Too bad zombero isn't around anymore, a DDS Hardtype mod would be cool.
The shots increase depending on the Shield skill used in the Combo. Also, they do have their uses, and not even Human Form is as useless as one might think. Eliminating weaknesses, while keeping all resistances and gaining an immunity to Expel is pretty useful, and of course we all know about the whole Gun weakness certain enemies have, and only of that.
@@JimReaperSaysUnsubscribe Charge is nowhere near essential, I know people who've beaten the game without using it once. For challenge runs, certainly, but not really in the game itself. But yeah, I forgot to mention that it's main usage is in hitting weaknesses.
@@manuelmateo3392 To be fair, though, being able to cast Charge and Debilitate (even the combo version) can save you valuable skill slots _and_ turns, and it's easier to keep track of Charges than individual buffs.
it's weird how both dds games are easy but spike up a bit towards the end i feel like doing a nocturne no fusion run and then revisiting these on some challenge run
"Heroic Battle", although sometimes there is a confusion in naming due to the soundtrack. It gets mixed up with "Epic Battle", which is the miniboss theme.

"Give up! My defense is impenetrable!" - Vetala, while he coughs up his lungs.
argilla's dirty rifle is op
funky elephant man gets annihilated by some jackasses who commit vorephilia on a minute basis
I defeated this guy so quickly in my "normal" Hard playthrough (data transfer stat bonuses helped), I actually missed some of his dialogue!
the data transfer gives u stat boosts? wtf

*Serph pls*
3 seconds before 3:29 I thought "at least it's safe even if he misses"
@@PuckishAngel Yeah the turn order is deliberate, so if Gale or Serph miss I can always just pass to Argilla and heal or set up a shield
It was confirmed that serph was such a useless protagonist that they made it so that if he dies, the game keeps going so its beatable.
Jim Reaper I mean gale is usually the one who misses a lot
Serph: _Unleashes supreme ice power from the bottom of his power sources_ and misses.

The only target tendency I've ever noticed is that the third party member seems to be targeted more often in the SMT IV games
I don’t think so but this is just based of my usual experience with this game

It's a confirmed element of enemy targeting in the Etrian Odyssey games. It wouldn't surprise me if Atlus toyed with it here at first.
That... seems plausible?

Yeah, I've only ever done solo runs and gun runs in both games.
This run is gonna be painful my dude
It isn't as much as you would think, especially they designed Argilla to be a rather tasteful character.
