All the criticisms you brought up are valid and I hope Mafex adds more in the box if they're selling it so high. They could've added bone claws with a battle damaged head with some slashing effects. It's a very nice sculpt, but other than that it's lacking. NOW GIVE US ROGUE, MAFEX!
He’s a 55-60$ figure and Mafex had that price point in mind when they made him He’s only 100+ from American retailers, and on the aftermarket. I just want to point that out because people are describing him as a 100$ figure when that’s not the case If you are an overseas collector I highly recommend importing any import figure from sites like Ami Ami, Plaza Japan, Hobby Link Japan, etc. It will really save you money
In the US he costs $100 so he is a $100 figure lol. Yes, I agree that importing is the way to go, but most US collectors are unaware. I keep getting this comment but nobody talks about how Marvel Legends costs more in other countries. I don't have time to look up and lists every price around the world. People outside the US know what it costs in their country and they can make that comparison for themselves. Otherwise we have to start talking about all the unlimited shipping options around the world
No but seriously he's a 60$ figure. Just because you looked at an American mark up price and decided you were okay paying a vendor fee doesn't mean he's a 100$ figure. Your dissatisfaction coincides with the asking price, but Mafex isn't asking what you're claiming, so it's disingenuous
@@NostalgiaUnboxed It’s a fair thing to point out, X-men 97 Rouge is going for 80$ on resale sites but that doesn’t mean Hasbro ever intended for her to be that much Retailers like BBTS, and nerdzoic are known for marking up the cost for imports in general
I agree that paying $100+ for this is too much, but I also agree with the other comments that paying U.S. retail prices for Mafex is a bit of a suckers move. This was not too hard to get overseas for around the $80 range, and if you're smart/patient about shipping, you could have gotten this figure sub-$100. Still a lot though. However, before considering the Mezco version, I recommend getting some experience with them as they have their own issues, not the least of which is major pilling on the soft goods if you ever, you know, pose them. Overall, the recent Marvel Legends '97 release really does punch above its weight, so if budgeting is the top priority, that Wolverine is quite a good option. Just my opinion
I think the Legends Wolverine is the highest value for the price. In terms of Mafex, the Wolverine is aesthetically amazing, but I feel like other Mafexs are a bigger difference compared to a cheaper equivalent.
With Marvel Legends making a new Astonishing Wolverine with new body mold, might as well wait until they make a new classic tiger stripe Wolverine with the new body. Beside, the 97 Wolverine doesn't even come with an angry head which is a dud, imo.
What’s the point in comparing end user price points against mezco when retail on the mafex wolverine is ~60 usd. Sure, for someone in the states mezco would be a better buy if you’re paying 125 but that’s not the fault of mafex
@@NostalgiaUnboxedYour blaming the brand when they didn’t sell you a 100 dollar figure. Maffex made a 60 dollar figure and dunking on it because it doesn’t match up to the price you paid isn’t the companies fault. They didn’t cheat you nor did they deliver an inadequate figure. You bought a 60 dollar figure for more than 60 dollars. Maffex did not sell you a 60 dollar figure for more than 60 dollars. They have zero to do with how much you paid and how much you think you should get. They advertised and made what they made and you paid more than they intended. That is your countries fault not their companies.
@@timdoe8895 you repeated yourself 4 times. Calm yourself. The figure still doesn’t come with the amount of accessories one would want when compared to Gambit, Psylocke, or even Cyclops.
One thing I know for sure is that the feeling of not getting enough is NOT there if you get a Mezco tiger stripe Wolverine. He is pricey but loaded with accessories. Besides that, great review! I don't think I have heard anyone else bring up the issue with the butterfly joint ruining the stripes on the costume. That would absolutely drive me nuts.
The lack of accessories is 1 of the few reasons I went with Mezco figures. I love Mafex, but they do vary greatly in quality and accessories. Great review as always sir. ✌🏻👌🏻👍🏻
If you payed over a hundred for this, you got majorly ripped off. Hobbysearch has it up for $55 and it’s similarly priced at hlj. Personally I like the brown/yellow suit better. That one is a bit tougher to find, but will probably get rereleased as well sooner or later
@@NostalgiaUnboxedsaying that’s what it costs if it can easily be found far cheaper is a bit false. A person isn’t required to pay the extreme markups that places like bbts have on certain Japanese toys. The high price you listed could get someone this figure and another character shipped by slow boat if they are willing to wait a while. I do appreciate the overall review of the figure though because that’s pretty accurate, but for someone that might still be on the fence about the figure, it might not be a good idea to scare them with that high price of $120 when it’s a simple option to buy from a Japanese source.
@@seanswader7425 “buy from a Japanese source”. Right. Which most people don’t know about. That’s a totally different video with loads of sites to list. This. Is. US. PRICING.
@@NostalgiaUnboxedI’ll admit that the majority don’t know about them, but there are many collectors that do and the rest honestly should learn about them. I know about them mostly due to being a hobby person. I build a lot of model kits, but things like certain action figures are something I take interest in as well. Often the Japanese brands are usually better than the American ones. That’s not a set rule though. SH figuarts from Bandai and Medicom’s Mafex lines are usually pretty great in comparison to Hasbro, but may be a higher cost. The problem happens when those toys get imported to the US and the American companies often markup the price more than they really should. Not sure if that’s because the overseas companies are raising the prices for shipping or if it’s the American retailers raising them themselves, but it seems that many action figures raise in price significantly. I usually check Hobbysearch first because they have an easy site to navigate and have a fairly competitive price. There are others that may be less or offer better shipping or better discounts. We live in an age of technology and often a simple google search will even show the lowest prices and include the Japanese sites. Likewise, it’s usually cheaper to buy American toys from American sites like bbts or entertainment earth or USA gundam store and sometimes those sites get pretty good discounts going as well that cover all in stock items regardless of origin
Even though they come with basically the same accessories I do think the Mafex Wolverine is a lot better than the 97 Wolverine with regards to paint, sculpt, and plastic quality. I had the ML Wolverine in my XMen display before the reissue came out and I was lucky enough to grab the re release from Hobby Search for retail. The difference is night and day in my mind and I recommend grabbing him if you can.
Ive gotten 3 versions of the Mezco Wolverine figures and have overall been pretty satisfied with them. Love all the accesories that came with them, especially this classic version. The brown costume version i wasnt as happy with at first, but it has grown on me. The soft goods do concern me a little, but i dont really play with them so not too worried about them popping stitches or anything
I kinda went crazy on Mafex X-Men and I bought him without even thinking about it if I'm honest so he's just chilling in my pile of loot. Strangely this video didn't hamper my excitement because your posing segment got me excited 😅
Totally agreed! I have the 97 Wolverine and I love it! I use the VHS head for the grinning face. I really like Mafex figures but, my grip with them are the fact that they feel so delicate to handle. There are QC issues with many of them, and for $100 figures, they shouldn't really have any. With that being said, my favorite Mafex figures so far are Hush Superman and Batman, Spider-Man, and Gambit. Storm is cool, just hard to handle without falling apart in some ways. Jean Grey has a very loose diaphragm cut, but she seems to be the best Jean figure so far. Overall I'll stick with that 97 Wolverine. Great video! Keep them coming!
I just recently bought this mafex wolverine. He was nowhere near $125.00. he was $28.49. since I had a $25.00 gift card for eBay, mafex wolverine for me was $3.49.
@NostalgiaUnboxed that's ok, I'm happy with it. As far as knock offs go, this is the best knock off I've ever seen. Out of the box, you can't tell wolverine is a knock off.
So while the gripes on accessories are valid, this is the reissue of an almost 5 year old figure. Which at the time was probably $80-$90 on bbts. So comparing it to more recent releases isn't really a fair comparison. Also Mezco wolverine is $50 more than the Mafex wolverine.
I got this figure last week and although I don't like his lack of accessories ESPECIALLY for a $100+ figure, I think he makes up for it in appearance and articulation TREMENDOUSLY! Yeah the butterfly joints are annoying but I'm used to butterflies splitting the sculpt with a lot of my import figures, so it's not a big deal imo. I'll be editing my review later this week. In short, not the best Mafex figure, but he's going on my top 10 figures of the year list for sure!
Did you buy him from BBTS? They mark up the prices more than Japanese retailers If you bought him recently his price went up since the reissue, especially on sites like EBay
I believe this was one of the first X-Men figures Mafex did in the line, after the McFarlane/Bagley Spiderman they put out. At the time, it was one of the best tiger stripe suit figures released, and Mafex continued to improve with each future release. By the way, that Mezco figure you showed off wasn't their first tiger stripe suit either. Their first one had laces on the boots, chunky, visible shorts and other add-ons that people hated. That "steel box" release fixed all of those issues and was one of their earliest in their shift to more standard comic looks without the "Mezco flair" they had been doing from the start.
Also to mention on the mafex Wolverine here his claws are like 3 meters long comparatively or saying like they made them huge for him they are the size of his forearm not his whole arm and they are like very straight blade style and that strange whoop on the end made it weird too.
@@NostalgiaUnboxed it does look cool them being ridiculously long but not accurate also the stripes being blue instead of black. I kinda like them comically long.... But they didn't really choose a good design for the blades. Also the paint was more of a gun metal finish adamantium is more chrome in finishing. Tho I can sorta live with that, if they made his like how it was on the brown suit wolverine then bam aces then that is enough for me to nab it. At that point then I would grab the brown one and be happy with that one instead. I still feel like getting it one day possibly because well I don't feel like the mezco one it's right.... Accessories yeah but euh he looks like a dude in cosplay. One thing and probably it's not too bad because I'll have him posed too, he's a bit knocked kneed too. Tho you can't tell that through poses afterwards but I'll see if one day I find a copy at a reasonable price because 125 or so AINT it lol.
Yeah this figure was pretty diversive when it came out, I really don't like that his tiger stripes are metallic blue instead of the traditional black and I don't wan't to customize a $100+ figure which is why I personally never got him, with the blue and strangely long claws he comes off as a weird amalgamation of the Marvel Vs. Capcom Wolverine and the Jim Lee version but he dosn't really work for either
Ok I just have to ask you instead of being that hater guy. What are you looking for in figures? What makes something good or bad to you? I think this Mafex is worth it and even though it can make improvements, it’s not as disappointing as you’re saying So I have the Mafex and love it. I also have the Gambit and love him too. I watched the review and I respect your opinion. I also watched a bit (not all) of the Chun-Li comparison. I think Jada is good however overhyped or represented in a super boosted state
@@NostalgiaUnboxed ok I thought there was more to it. Yeah I think the Value for Mafex is there and we can respectfully disagree. I’m glad there are two lines for two different price points
@@NostalgiaUnboxed I had the Mezco and as soon as I got the mafex in hand I had to sell the Mezco. As a stand alone display piece the mezco is brilliant but for someone like me who is building an x men team with mafex and some marvel legends in there the mafex wolverine wins by Miles. You gotta keep in mind sure the stripe setup and the fact that they’re blue is gonna get some people Upset but for me even after all the pros and cons weigh out. The mafex is just such a good looking and articulated figure. I’d personally love if the stripes were black but that doesn’t set it apart for me. The Mezco is great for all the accessories and display options but again when it’s beside other figures it’s just clunky and too out of place looking, also Mezco has a very doll like Plastic so it’s like having a Barbie almost where mafex is just again what I prefer. And again the fact mafex has been fixing a lot of issues with the re releases I think helps! Cheers my friend 🙏
I paid a pretty penny for a screaming head sculpt and curved claws from a third party seller. Mafex could’ve added more accessories though ! Still a good figure imo. Give him a break bub!
As much as I enjoy this figure, the brown suit is miles above this one. The X-Force one is great too but it has even LESS accessories. So that was a bummer. But the MAGNETO?!? That’s the absolute best Magento figure ever. It’s just stellar.
Cool review. I love my Mezco one. He has 6 heads, 12 hands, a sentinel light up display piece, a stand and it comes in a tin lunchbox. Lately ive seen it sell for $109.
I've been thinking about selling off some of the old legends i have to make way for definitive team rosters and definitive figures to myself. I'm not sure which Wolverine to get, but i think Gambit is definitely Mafex ❤
Mezco Wolverine has its own flaws. Head is too big, the heads don't sit deep enough on the neck (or the neck is too long), the plastic neck stands out against the fabric, the proportions of the figure overall look off even in comic books exaggerated crouches, and the body itself has a strange shape in the torso. Also can't stand the articulated shoulder pads popping off every time you move the shoulders, but that might be my QA. I own it. It's on my shelf. The slash effects are nice, the host of heads is outstanding in sculpt and paint app, and the big thing you paid for in that set is the Sentinel Base. It's not as heavy or "premium" feeling as it looked in promos, but it's an awesome base for any display, and the lights have individual pulsing effects which makes shoots fun. I think the Mafex yellow Wolverine is the weakest of the Mafex offerings, but if you like to pick up and pose at your desk like I do, I'd grab 97 or Mafex before the Mezco.
I'm also going to say that Hasbro has stepped up their game. I prefer the heads that came with the Psylocke set to the unmasked Mezcos. And those heads swap onto any other Logan you may own, looking exceptional on the Sabertooth set Logan. You cannot beat that battle damaged head Mezco executred, though.
Great honest review. When ordering the Mafex Gambit I passed on Wolverine for all the same reasons. I couldn’t justify the cost but I’m more willing to pull the trigger for Outback Wolverine however it’s hard to justify that either. The ML X-men 97 sufficed for my Tiger Stripe Logan because of paint and accessories.
Yeah, the pricing gets rough importing these things. If you can buy from some Japanese sites like AmiAmi then they end up being much cheaper even after shipping
It's Wolverine. They know that everybody wants a wolverine. Even if they didn't add the extra heads people who have the money (Mafex not for everyone like i said before) will still go and buy them. cause its Wolverine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On the fence between this one and the Yamaguchi one. Hate the legends one, no angry head and crappy claws. This one has WAAAAY a nicer silhouette and an unmasked head. But Yamaguchi has an alternate screaming head in the place of the unmasked one, you can switch his claw between hands and has a badass style claws (but no arm hair 🙁)
@@NostalgiaUnboxed revoltech is considerably cheaper than mafex. That also made me reevaluate stuff. It's just that the Mafex looks so good but I don't think his price matches the quality. If I were able to get his reissue in preorder price that would've been perfect
Is your only criticism the extra blue line only the butterfly joint?? (After the unfair price of course.) If you already bought it, why not paint some Pequa drain opener or some brake fluid on that butterfly joint? The paint will come off very quickly. Use a natural fiber brush btw. My other criticism is that the brawlers (claws/pantera) are TOO LONG! It bothers my logic when they are even longer than between wrist and elbow. But i can forgive a little bit for dramatic effect. THIS has no excuse however!
I was just watching a video about Magneto pulling the adamantium from his body and his claws (and blue stripes) are accurate to that time. My biggest issue is the lack of accessories compared to the other figures
@@NostalgiaUnboxedI'm saying the claws should not be drawn that way either. How can they go back into his arm and how can he bend his wrist if they are that long? The claws in theory could never exceed 9 inches, that's their conceivable max!
You and hatter have the best channel’s. You guy’s keep it natural. Makes for good content. Also you have me on freaking crack with the neca turtles 🐢. Best action figure line after mezco that doesn’t do soft goods.
I’ve just bought it for $30 on eBay today, because it’s sooooo hard to get the 97 figurine, due to its price. Overall, it doesn’t look all that bad. Looks fine to me, so far. Shame that the blue lines on each side of the chest are inaccurate, but that might be the only problem, which seems minor.
@@NostalgiaUnboxed What do you mean? Almost all of them are ranged from $30-$45. Surely they couldn’t be knockoffs. Mine said “pre sale”. And, it’s new, too.
@@josh6453 yeah, that’s the CT Toys knockoff. The cheapest you could get the Mafex would be $55 direct from Japan but they don’t have any orders open on it. That being said, it’s going to be worth grabbing but you need to order it on Aliexpress and save some money. It’s a $20-25 figure. You can see reviews of the CT Toys brown suit wolverine now
@@NostalgiaUnboxed Well, I decided to cancel my order. Who knows how long it will take for me to get that Wolverine 97 figure. Among Cyclops, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Regular Magneto, and Rouge (the most expensive one of them all. Guess, I’ll continue to wait for restocks.
I honestly think the mezco wolverine deluxe with the Sentinel base is the best wolverine he comes with so many accessories and options from classic to modern looks
I’m new to the channel and I’m enjoying it. I am also on the hunt for a Wolverine figure to pair with Deadpool. Might have to hope and wait for the upcoming movie version. Did you grab the latest Hasbro Pulse released (marvel 85th and Hugh with a tanktop)?
Yes, I did. I do not think that Wolverine looks very good and it's from the Origins movie, I think. But we shall see! I'm very excited for the one I showed in this video though from Days of Future Past
Ugh, lucky. I'm flying to Tokyo in August, and was afraid of missing out so I got him here. I bought a few Mafex in Japan last year, and all came out to about $50 - $60 each.
Think twice before buying Mafex* Amazing sculpts but I don't own a single release that didn't need to be Frankensteined together with it's replacement. Really a shame that they can't get a handle on QC. On the bright side these heads work well on Marvel Legends Wolverines.
Hey! If you’re looking for the perfect wolverine, maybe you should try getting Amazing Yamaguchi Wolverine. It might not be your style but he comes with a bunch of stuff and is so worth it. Personally I think he is the best wolverine figure out there but he is also a pricy boy like the mafex wolverine.
You might like the X-Force Ver better, as the suit he's in for that one has the entire upper body in black so you don't have to deal with the screwy arm lines
Wolverine is generally one of Hasbro's best, so I'm happy sticking with Legends. Love the third party metal claws that I can buy with money I saved over offerings like this. Are you going to be picking up the 85th Astonishing Wolverine? He's got the X-Men Beast upper body articulation style which looks neat!
Great review, i never understood how he could fit all that hair under his mask lol. Man those claws are so long , how do they fit in his forearms? Soft goods jacket wow thar Gambit looks awesome!
In some of these comments, saying "I'm American and these are American prices" is basically applying ignorance to the audience. If I google "wolverine action figure (classic suit)", I get a wave of more affordable local brands like hasbro coming from stores like Walmart/target/gamestop/amazon/ebay/sideshow collectibles/ and BBTS which has many many make/model of figure that fits that description. None of them front-paged me the Mafex 096 figure. Because like many overseas brands, its "niche". If you get to the bottom of that general search youll see the link to HLJ where I got my 096 a few weeks ago, 10days shipping, for 65$ US. That being said, given how cluttered the search was, the chances of you landing on the figure without specifically and intentionally searching it, is lower than Hasbro listings, and if you do, you see a brand you've never heard of before, you'll research the figure. While you could end up on a page that mentions other sellers with more fair pricing, you're likely to end up here or a couple other channels that only mention American retailers and their egregious markups driving people away from the figure entirely. . . Btw, its by no means a perfect figure. I wish the stripes were black, my left shoulder stripe is a half mm or so outside the sculpt, there was a paint blemish on my right clawed hands knuckle. These are all nit picky but fair when it costs 2x a Marvel legends That said, its easily the best figure you can grab rn, even compared to the Hasbro X97 which is a solid release. And it is 100% worth Mafex intended and initial price of 55-75$ (depending on shipping) If you paid more than that, you ripped yourself off by not putting in the work to avoid vendor markup
Ruined all that work with that last sentence. Oof. I was gonna say thank you for taking the time, but then you dunked on anyone that bought this with the sites they are familiar with.
I'm so happy with my Mezco Wolverine! Cloth goods may not be for everyone, but that figure is so fun, versatile, and he looks amazing in photography. Plus, the Sentinel base he comes with is a very nice touch.
Same here, love the cloth goods because of how it interacts with light, plastic will never compare in that regard. I've got the Brown suit and the X-Force suit to go along with X-Force Deadpool. I did buy a few extra heads from the newer blue and yellow suit to put on my figures though, I prefer the bigger cowel design.
The heads and pinlessnes was the main selling point off this Wolverine, but by the time Legends released the vhs and 97 version it really got outdated.
And now the new design for Astonishing X-Men Wolverine with Hasbro is even better for sculpt and articulation. It’s a bummer they didn’t put that on the ‘97 version
@@NostalgiaUnboxed Im not feeling that one yet, but I never had connection to that costume, probably when they will release the tiger stripped costume or the tan one on that mold will blow my mind. But legends did improved a lot. My current main display Wolverine is the 97 body with the angry mafex head.
I have both... I was on the fence about purchasing the Mafex... but it is lightyears better in every aspect and much more premium. The video differences look marginal, but in hand the Mafex looks incredibly detailed and comic accurate, the 97 looks like a bad 80s cartoon. It's worth it.
Bummer about not getting much for that price point. Also the shoulder cuff issue is an annoyance to me with action figures. Had the same issue with a Goku figure recently.
I only have about 2 Wolverine figures and I think he looks cool despite the issues but I might try to get the brand new articulated Astonishing X-MEN suited up Wolverine because I do have the new Marvel Legends Astonishing X-MEN Cyclops, Overall, Great honest review.
Lol I just bought this guy, tailed utterly trying to buy him from Japan. Sold out everywhere, but he came up in a Canadian shop so I picked him up there with a coupon.
Are you kidding? The reason he didn't come with tons of stuff is because Medicom knows what everyone who covets having this figure knows... he is THE BEST WOLVERINE figure. Mezco do great stuff too but no, Mafex wins this round.
I'm more about brown outfit Wolvie. I've been considering just filing down the blue stripes and painting it yellow. It's not a tough job, even for a non-customizer. Kitbashing is a thing, so if you wanted you could buy the Mezco so you can have the accessories for the Mafex Wolvie. Price doesn't matter to me anymore, since most Wolvie figures are junk. A few years ago I would have gladly paid $300 for a brown outfit Wolvie before Mafex released it. Too many Legends figures are just too substandard and pitiful.
@@NostalgiaUnboxed Okay, but name another brand that is as good quality as Mafex and is also $25. There's no such thing. I don't like Legends Sabretooth, which is why I kept Select Sabretooth, he's much larger. Hasbro is also unlikely to ever make a Tyrant figure, and I would gladly pay $400 for a custom Tyrant. I know you're not a customizer, but I am. I learned how to do it all just a couple years ago and I spent $100 to make a custom character for my brother. When I mentioned kitbash, I meant you could keep the Mezco accessories then sell the figure for half the cost. But this is why I got into clay and resin because I was tired of paying an arm and leg for accessories. I've made hot glue effects, which is somewhat easy enough for anyone to do. So I could make the claw slash effects that Mezco has.
Wow, that stripe choice really upset you :) I'm a Mafex fan boy, but I worry about their recent choices and multi-month delays. Something sour is brewing over at Mafex.
I've always been a fan of Wolverine, but If I had the money I shure as hell get that Gambit instead. Is way more difference, and even cheaper? It's stupid...
Lack of accessories on this definitely does not make him worth over $100. I do agree with other people that if you are collector and know of mafex, learning when to go with import sites over US sites will save a lot money. I am aware that most collectors in the US are unaware of import sites/skeptical and go with US sellers, but it is not very difficult to inform oneself on import sites and save money. $20 in savings adds up per figure over time. I am partial to Hobby Genki, which saves $15-30 per figure using my private warehouse and having no urgent need to have my figures immediately, so I just ship one big allotment that results in $10 or less shipping per figure. Even so, this particular offering from Mafex isn't great compared to others. They definitely should have added slash effects as a bare minimum.
If I buy a high end figure, it has to be must have. And it has to be a kind of a one off purchase for me. Like, figmas based on Nintendo characters and their very rarely released Guyver figmas. I've selectively picked up shf Dragonball figures. I passed up a few good ones, like Metal Cooler, the latest Yamcha, the entire Ginyu Force, and all the Androids other than track suit 18. And I only own one Mafex, the Batman Hush Superman, as it was the best, most perfect Supes sculpt I have seen of the modern era. (IMHO. LOL) I certainly cannot afford as many shf's, figmas, or Mafex's as I have bought of Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black, or G. I Joe Classified's. This Mafex Wolverine has a better sculpt than the Marvel Legend. But, aside from the weird choice of having the black stripe going in to the butterfly joint, I also don't like "metallic" sheen on the blue. Can Mafex do the Van Damme splits, though?
P.S. I do wish I had grabbed that mafex Gambit, though! I passed on Legends Gambit because, of the hard plastic trench coat. And I passed on the Mafex Gambit you reviewed because of the price. But, I somewhat regret it now.

It's crazy that there isn't a "prefect" version out there since his design is so simple. Mafex switched up with the blue and the shiny colors and Mezco added the soft good which clashes with the plastic neck

@@Colt-TV ok
@@NostalgiaUnboxed
It’s a fair thing to point out, X-men 97 Rouge is going for 80$ on resale sites but that doesn’t mean Hasbro ever intended for her to be that much
Retailers like BBTS, and nerdzoic are known for marking up the cost for imports in general
@@INK-MONO ok
I’m waiting for the reissue of the brown suit from Mafex
Good looking design
Same. Ct toys just released their version
Gotta remember more than 90% of US buyers are gonna use US companies.
With Marvel Legends making a new Astonishing Wolverine with new body mold, might as well wait until they make a new classic tiger stripe Wolverine with the new body. Beside, the 97 Wolverine doesn't even come with an angry head which is a dud, imo.
@@NostalgiaUnboxedTell them not too. Smarter and a much more realistic approach to collecting. Don’t pay us prices for a Japanese figure.
What’s the point in comparing end user price points against mezco when retail on the mafex wolverine is ~60 usd. Sure, for someone in the states mezco would be a better buy if you’re paying 125 but that’s not the fault of mafex
What is the point in sharing US prices with US buyers?
That’s fine but you can’t also say there’s inadequate accessories relative to a mezco when the extra money isn’t going to mafex.
sure, dude
Thank you
The lack of accessories is 1 of the few reasons I went with Mezco figures. I love Mafex, but they do vary greatly in quality and accessories. Great review as always sir. ✌🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Thank you
The best in my opinion is the Mezco, the look of that figure is stunning, I think he could be a good contender (if your willing to spend around 150$)
It’s a lot! Would like to see it in person
If you payed over a hundred for this, you got majorly ripped off. Hobbysearch has it up for $55 and it’s similarly priced at hlj. Personally I like the brown/yellow suit better. That one is a bit tougher to find, but will probably get rereleased as well sooner or later
Paid*
US based companies sell it for the price I listed, so that's what it costs.
You sold me at it’s beautiful!!! MAFEX!!
Haha
Glad you pointed out the weird butterfly joint paint choice, really made no sense.
If he is in a pose like the thumbnail I guess it's fine, but annoying otherwise
Even though they come with basically the same accessories I do think the Mafex Wolverine is a lot better than the 97 Wolverine with regards to paint, sculpt, and plastic quality.
I had the ML Wolverine in my XMen display before the reissue came out and I was lucky enough to grab the re release from Hobby Search for retail.
The difference is night and day in my mind and I recommend grabbing him if you can.
If you can get the right price, sure
Ive gotten 3 versions of the Mezco Wolverine figures and have overall been pretty satisfied with them. Love all the accesories that came with them, especially this classic version. The brown costume version i wasnt as happy with at first, but it has grown on me. The soft goods do concern me a little, but i dont really play with them so not too worried about them popping stitches or anything
Good to hear
I kinda went crazy on Mafex X-Men and I bought him without even thinking about it if I'm honest so he's just chilling in my pile of loot. Strangely this video didn't hamper my excitement because your posing segment got me excited 😅
Haha! Poses make anything look good
Totally agreed!
Thank you. The Jean I reviewed had the same problem. Total bummer
@NostalgiaUnboxed saw it, great review on that one too!
where can I pick up some of the alternative Wolverines in the UK?
I don’t have that knowledge
I just recently bought this mafex wolverine. He was nowhere near $125.00. he was $28.49. since I had a $25.00 gift card for eBay, mafex wolverine for me was $3.49.
@@patrickmcgavin2245 my friend, you bought the CT Toys knockoff. Worth the $28, but that’s not Mafex
@NostalgiaUnboxed that's ok, I'm happy with it. As far as knock offs go, this is the best knock off I've ever seen. Out of the box, you can't tell wolverine is a knock off.
@ the brown suit one they made is also great
Will you get the others like cyclops, magneto and storm
Yes
@@NostalgiaUnboxed it will be hard to get cyclops but the rest are pretty easy to find
So while the gripes on accessories are valid, this is the reissue of an almost 5 year old figure. Which at the time was probably $80-$90 on bbts. So comparing it to more recent releases isn't really a fair comparison. Also Mezco wolverine is $50 more than the Mafex wolverine.
nice
Never spend that much on him. I got mine from Plazajapan during a reissue for $55
Most collectors are not importing. I like AmiAmi though

They mark up the prices more than Japanese retailers
If you bought him recently his price went up since the reissue, especially on sites like EBay
Great info. Thank you
Also to mention on the mafex Wolverine here his claws are like 3 meters long comparatively or saying like they made them huge for him they are the size of his forearm not his whole arm and they are like very straight blade style and that strange whoop on the end made it weird too.
A lot of people have an issue with that
@@NostalgiaUnboxed it does look cool them being ridiculously long but not accurate also the stripes being blue instead of black.
Yeah this figure was pretty diversive when it came out,
I really don't like that his tiger stripes are metallic blue instead of the traditional black and I don't wan't to customize a $100+ figure which is why I personally never got him,
with the blue and strangely long claws he comes off as a weird amalgamation of the Marvel Vs. Capcom Wolverine and the Jim Lee version but he dosn't really work for either
Interesting choices

Ok I just have to ask you instead of being that hater guy. What are you looking for in figures? What makes something good or bad to you? I think this Mafex is worth it and even though it can make improvements, it’s not as disappointing as you’re saying
So I have the Mafex and love it. I also have the Gambit and love him too. I watched the review and I respect your opinion. I also watched a bit (not all) of the Chun-Li comparison. I think Jada is good however overhyped or represented in a super boosted state

I think the mafex wolberine is easily THE BEST Wolverine figure. 🔥🤝
I’m curious about Mezco
I have Legends, Mafex and Mezco Wolverine. Mezco is my fav. Hours of posing and variations.
I definitely need to experience that Mezco

I have the marvel legends, it’s a great figure but it’s missing an angry head. This looks great, but it’s too tall and is absolutely not worth it.
Gotta buy about 5 ML to get it all lol
It looks the exact same height as the Marvel Legends 97 figure, judging from the video, of course.
You should have done the review with the original price in mind (¥7,800 = $50), not the resellers price...
Hi. Don’t live in Japan so when we buy him here this is the price. 👍

Perfect!
isnt there a marvel legends deadpool 1 action figure coming out july 1st?
Yeah
I've been thinking about selling off some of the old legends i have to make way for definitive team rosters and definitive figures to myself. I'm not sure which Wolverine to get, but i think Gambit is definitely Mafex ❤
Absolutely on that Gambit. I have more Mafex to cover next weekend
Lots of great info! Thanks for sharing this!

I think I like this one better, but you definitely want to get that better Import price if you can. Should be closer to $60
@@NostalgiaUnboxed revoltech is considerably cheaper than mafex. That also made me reevaluate stuff. It's just that the Mafex looks so good but I don't think his price matches the quality. If I were able to get his reissue in preorder price that would've been perfect
Yea i think ur right coulda had some more accessories and the blue color is kinda off but there's so many wolverines that u have other options
Too many options lol

@NostalgiaUnboxed I own the gambit, psylocke, and wolverine from them, and they are all great.
These are all nit picky but fair when it costs 2x a Marvel legends
That said, its easily the best figure you can grab rn, even compared to the Hasbro X97 which is a solid release.
And it is 100% worth Mafex intended and initial price of 55-75$ (depending on shipping)
If you paid more than that, you ripped yourself off by not putting in the work to avoid vendor markup
Ruined all that work with that last sentence. Oof. I was gonna say thank you for taking the time, but then you dunked on anyone that bought this with the sites they are familiar with.

Ah those were the days 😒
I'm so happy with my Mezco Wolverine! Cloth goods may not be for everyone, but that figure is so fun, versatile, and he looks amazing in photography. Plus, the Sentinel base he comes with is a very nice touch.
Same here, love the cloth goods because of how it interacts with light, plastic will never compare in that regard. I've got the Brown suit and the X-Force suit to go along with X-Force Deadpool. I did buy a few extra heads from the newer blue and yellow suit to put on my figures though, I prefer the bigger cowel design.
Really wanna check it out
The heads and pinlessnes was the main selling point off this Wolverine, but by the time Legends released the vhs and 97 version it really got outdated.
I need to find some trees like that to keep my ML/DC/PRLC hands together.
Yeah it’s a great design. Someone should 3D print some
I have both... I was on the fence about purchasing the Mafex... but it is lightyears better in every aspect and much more premium. The video differences look marginal, but in hand the Mafex looks incredibly detailed and comic accurate, the 97 looks like a bad 80s cartoon. It's worth it.
Haha if you can get that Japanese price
I had the figure and best way to describe it to me is that the figure by all acount should be the best but something just feels off

I prefer this over the Mezco. The cloth or soft goods just does not do well to show muscles and body shapes.
That's how I feel
Bummer about not getting much for that price point. Also the shoulder cuff issue is an annoyance to me with action figures. Had the same issue with a Goku figure recently.
Yeah, very annoying with Goku. Definitely enjoying the Demoniacal Fit version

Are you kidding? The reason he didn't come with tons of stuff is because Medicom knows what everyone who covets having this figure knows... he is THE BEST WOLVERINE figure. Mezco do great stuff too but no, Mafex wins this round.
Alrighty
@troymay7362 it is your opinion I just don’t support it
I'm more about brown outfit Wolvie.
I don't think I would ever buy two $100 figures to make one lol
Wow, that stripe choice really upset you :)
I'm a Mafex fan boy, but I worry about their recent choices and multi-month delays. Something sour is brewing over at Mafex.
I don’t really care
I've always been a fan of Wolverine, but If I had the money I shure as hell get that Gambit instead. Is way more difference, and even cheaper? It's stupid...
Best way to get these is from Japanese import sites to save about half the price, but they’re usually sold out by now
I found this on eBay for 40$ is it a scam?
That is CT Toys
@ it says mafex
@ it’s not Mafex. I don’t know what to tell you
Lack of accessories on this definitely does not make him worth over $100.
Great info. My new video (Cyclops) mentioned importing stuff and it’s building a pinned comment of sites people should use
I got Mafex Wolverine 🐈 love it
Awesome!
They should have thrown in the picture of Scott and Jean 😂
That’s what makes the Marvel Legends VHS set so perfect
ML Apocalypse wave Tiger Stripe Wolverine will always be the best Wolvie figure at that scale. The 12" one is even better.
Ohhhhh
If I buy a high end figure, it has to be must have. And it has to be a kind of a one off purchase for me. Like, figmas based on Nintendo characters and their very rarely released Guyver figmas. I've selectively picked up shf Dragonball figures. I passed up a few good ones, like Metal Cooler, the latest Yamcha, the entire Ginyu Force, and all the Androids other than track suit 18. And I only own one Mafex, the Batman Hush Superman, as it was the best, most perfect Supes sculpt I have seen of the modern era. (IMHO. LOL)
I certainly cannot afford as many shf's, figmas, or Mafex's as I have bought of Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black, or G.
It's hard because so many of these are expensive
@@NostalgiaUnboxed I know! Heh heh. All of the figures I've bought since 2020. Heh. I might technically be in crippling debt! Ha ha ha! Uh, oof, ooh, oh no! *sobbing noises. Sad. 😢
Hopefully he'll next time you review something like that in mind special effects of bootleg cuz I have a bootleg King Ghidorah that was that was cheaper and and came with no accessories but then if I bought the SNH version of it it was like $200 with no accessories the same as a cheaper figure for under $50.50 bucks
Ok
Looks like you own gambit now 😉 yeah Mafex wolverine is lacking on accessories, & the re-issue has that shoulder mismatch
It's crazy that there isn't a "prefect" version out there since his design is so simple. Mafex switched up with the blue and the shiny colors and Mezco added the soft good which clashes with the plastic neck
@@NostalgiaUnboxed true! i personally am satisfied with the hasbro version, but i wish they would update brown suit wolverine in that newly announced wolverine buck and I’ll be satisfied. I purchased most of the mafex Xmen except for the xforce and wolverine releases… but i fully agree he is not a complicated character to produce , i think hasbro has gotten the best size, design, price balance on wolverine it just needs to be updated to their more recent super articulated standards! RELEASE BROWN SUIT WOLVERINE IN THE NEW SUPER ARTICULATED BUCK AND DONT CHARGE US EXTRA LIKE MCFARLANE!!😂
Aw Man U gotta review the mezco wolverine now please!!!!!😭🔥🔥
I hope I can
Getting a custom painted mafex tigerstripe with custom head and claws! Have also the Mezco tigerstripe(NYCC Ver.) the new tigerstripe ver. and a Mezco Ronin Wolverine + the Revoltech one! So no need for another Wolverine with this suit!
All the wolverines
The problem I have with imports is that the feel soo cheaply made. Like 2 thin plastic holding in place with moving joints, sure it moves well but they easily pop off or break. And you don't want to break a $100+ figure 🤦🏼♂️
No you don’t
Sooo, I'm in the same hunt as you, looking for the best Wolverine in classic suit. Don't like the texture on the Mezco one, but everything else looks good, but the texture is a no for me. Subbed
If you can grab Mafex Wolverine for a good price I highly recommend him
He looks a lot better in hand
It's crazy that each company keeps making slight changes and preventing the perfect Wolverine from happening lol
@@INK-MONO TBH it looks awesome, but the amount of hands, heads and the long claws turn me away.
@@Darkwolf99_
I get the criticism with the claws, I don’t like them much either. If you do pick him up there are some customizers that are making after market claws like Cave collectors
Yeah those shoulder cuts have ruined this figure for me. I still ordered him because I'm dumb but whatever
Lol
i do like the chromatic blue and the arm hair of mafex, but pass overall. the hasbro one, sadly, is also a pass. hasbro one, he is an early teen wolverine with that stubble.
Toon! lol. So it’s accurate
DONT TELL ME WHAT TO DO BUB!!!!!!
Did you just call me Blob?
@@NostalgiaUnboxed did u mean BOB that’s my name ?!? (100% true)
I prefer ML. proportion wise and look, and especially pricing.
Pricing for sure
Could u review the marvel legends wolverine astonishing
@@thedarkestknight2009 that’s not one I’m interested in. I’m sorry
back to back to back! heck yeah yeah!
Haha
3:15 that seam line is painful for a $120+ figure 😭
Those darn import prices
